Title: Never neglect the warnings !!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: Dipanjan on September 19, 2016, 03:43:33 PM
So, there was I, testing a few little motors. These are avionic 1826 motors, only 16 gms in weight. I was pretty curious to know how much thrust do these little motors give? So I ordered a few 4 inch and 3 inch BullNose propellers (note, they have NOSE in their names). Now,I don't have any motor mount, for my previous builds,I drilled holes in wooden arms and then have fixed the motors on them with screws. Well, for this small motors, I didn't have any arms either, so I planned an idea. I took a plier (300gm weight, motor alone won't lift it), and fixed the motor on the plier with some masking tape ( :banghead: :giggle:). Then powered on the system. It was running fine, I was getting upto 100gms thrust. Have you ever been into those situations when you just love to look at a motor spinning? Well I was at that time, I like the sounds and the gust of air of these tiny powerhouses. All was well, until suddenly the masking tape set the motor loose !!!!!

The motor, running at full speed came off and hit me in the face.

Immediately I could feel something wrong with my nose. Rushed to the mirror, saw I was bleeding, and bleeding pretty bad.  :-\
I applied some medicine and it took a little time for the blood to clot. Well now I have a scar that I don't think will heal before the Puja.

I was careless and didn't bother to follow the safety precautions. Don't ever underestimate the brushless motors by their size. I have learnt the lesson the hard way. Well I have also discovered that you can you the bullnose props for tearing up plastic bags. Believe me, I have been using them since then instead of the knife. :D

Regards,
Dipanjan

If you love sound of the motors
