please can anyone tell me what are those robots called which are very simple and use dpdt switches and some ribbon wires?
:help: :help: :help: :help:
please help

I know what you are talking about, had helped to conduct a workshop for the same in college. 4 Motors control 4 individual wheels, differential steering is used for control and a ribbon cable is used to send control signals as well as supply power to the robot. Here is a picture of one in action !! :)

I usually call these a toy making, hardly anything to do with robotics.
@buzz_rc : m/c seems to be quick in pic, nice

How simple is it?I'd like to make one if it is simple and cost effective or an ornithopter.

thats no match for an ornithopter, appeal wise.

iamahuman

Are you sure?Oh,I'll just make a new thread.

ofcourse!! ornithopter are super cool. It will definitely be more difficult to build compared to that bug. But at the same time should be more fun too.

Nope, could not find any information on the web.... just get the required materials and assemble it yourself. General cost to get one of these up and running comes upto rs. 1000 (approx).

Fly high if you have good set of batteries.....!

@prateek13 : if you are taking about ribbon wire robot, follwing configuration i use mostly. Its been taken from cheap jcb trucks toy (that yellow colour ones).

Firstly take 2 motor, appropriate length of wire, and two dpdt switches of type spring load center OFF (must have 6 contact points)
1* *2
3* *4 (dpdt switch illustration :  "*" represent contact points.)
5* *6

1. Take a wire (wire 0) and Connect (+ ) polarity of Motor1 with (-) polarity of Motor2 using wire 0.
2. Take 3 wires, connect wire1 to (-) polarity of Motor 1.
3. Connect wire 2 to (+) polarity of Motor 2.
4. Connect wire 3 to wire 0.
5. Now take a dpdt switch 1 and connect wire 1 & wire 2 to contacts 3 and contact 4 of switch1.
6. Connect (+) polarity of battery to contact 1 and contact 6.
7. Connect (-) polarity of battery to contact 2 and contact 5.
8. Now take switch 2, connect wire 3 to contact 2 and contact 5 (switch 2).
9. Connect wire 1 to contact 1 and contact 6 (switch 2)
10. Connect (+) polarity of battery to contact 3.
11. Connect (-) polarity of battery to contact 4.

Switch 1 for forward/back and Switch 2 for left/right.

To turn right left motor drag and vice versa.

robokits.org is good site for component and basic enabling circuits. But one should be aware of there design, as lately a major goof up has been found for motor circuit in one there kit.
Basically just taking 4 gear motor 2 dpdt length of ribbion wire and some motor mounting and wheels is enough for basic maneuver design. Ya adding electronics will definitely provide a good control.

You can call it ribbon rover :D, just kidding they are usually called "rover" or simply a "wired robot"
