This is sad. Now there is reason to assume that she died a slow, painful and hopeless death. All these days I had assumed that she had died instantly on impact - (wherever, whenever). In perspective, she and Noonan deserved a better fate.

R.I.P.

P.s. There is some talk about external antennas being removed from Amelia's Electra due to the pain and hassle of having to manually retract them back during flight. Another theory was that due to the Electra being overloaded, these antennae were sheared off during take off from Lae. I have been studying photos of Amelia's Electra and stock aircraft and am confused. They all look the same and share the same profile......... ???

The fourth photo is the only known photo of her last take off from Lae, New Guinea and the first photo is of a stock Lockheed Electra similar to the type (Regn. NR 16020) that she was flying. The second and third photos are of Amelia's aircraft.

An interesting web page here:

P.s. Goofed up on the location of Lae - it is New Guinea and not Guam. Corrected.
