great to hear this.... dreamworks all the way for you... and frankly its nice to meet up with people with different work background but with a thread nad common interest of r/c hobby...
Awesome
So do you also have Linux rendering farms ;) (If this is a corporate secret, please do NOT disclose/respond!).
hi ,
Tahnk u all...
anwar we do have linux renderfarms... we seem to share more than 1 hobby :)

This ROCKS!!! Keep it up!!!
I also do 3dsmax in my spare time. When i get too stressed out in college i unwind by either making a plane or a 3dsmax model. I did make an animation also about 2 or 3 years ago in 3dsmax.
I call my work 'MAXimizing the third dimension' http://naatumach.deviantart.com/
You can see the video on http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150241451555591
You got a special grafix card for 3ds max?
I took up Photography, after my stint with Chuck gliders. Was my primary hobby along with trekking when I discovered that R/C has become very much affordable (really??). Some of my pics attached below. You may visit my photostream on flicker and leave comments:

As i understand 3dsmax is more intensive on the processor than the video card.
Yes i do own a good quality dedicated graphics card, i got that for gaming.
Then what are all those quardo/fireGL series card for? I tot they were used for them. I guess maya or some software uses them for rendering images fast. BTW I agree that CPU gets used a lot.
Yes, it does help in rendering. There is a noticeable reduction in render time. still it is more dependent on the processor.

BTW I agree that CPU gets used a lot.
Professional production houses use Grid/Clusters to do the Rendering operation. People also utilize the computing power of GPU of their high end video cards to complement the main CPU. These rendering are hardly done real time, especially the production one. they are so intense that even a 'Draft' / quick render may set your :Rs: 30000+ Video card up for slog.
Agreed, This is out of topic, but could not control posting it here. Real time Grafix :hatsoff: Watch it in HD. My poor 8800GT OC cant run it.

hi guys.
my other past times/hobbies...........
I built this web 10 years ago for my father....also interested in all WW11 history
http://weshallremember.hostei.com/ (http://weshallremember.hostei.com/)
I also made a version of this to run from CD so they did not have to spend lots on internet payments to see it.
and water color painting ...

These rendering are hardly done real time
Rendering can "NEVER" be done real time.
If you have 30 frames per second, that is 2secs to render one frame that is virtually impossible render even if you are making a mediocre frame.
I have had render times of 9minutes on a single frame.
Once i had to run 5 PCs continuously for 32hours to render an animation with just one light source.
It all depends on the rendering engine and optimizations I guess. I guess todays quad sli/cross fire can easily spit out 3+ tera flops. The same thing to be done on a CPU requires a lot of CPUs, though they are flexible on instructions. Probably Intel's Larrabe may help. For example the video I posted above is almost realistic and today's cards can churn out 25+ FPS at 1080P. Am I wrong?

i think it should be WW II... just a typo :salute:
and dont worry it will take 8 more WWs for the 11th to come...!
This unplugged life is good As well as sucks. Be that as it may. Kayaking. Scuba. Sky diving. horse riding. Trekking . Mountain biking . Painting and singing. ( I wish I had 48 hrs a day) I steal some from my sleep. 4-5 hrs is good enough I guess for all. Will share pics soon.
Ps
Carloz did a lot of aerial filming of late. Will it be of help? Need permission from higher ups to give it to u. Gimme a holler, it is in HD
This is a very interesting idea - talking about what we do other than RC. It gives all these names on the forum an extra dimension. Makes them all so much more real. I have been around for almost 60 years now doing mostly what is contained in my website: http://www.pradeepdasgupta.com. I play tennis regularly, read a lot, listen to jazz, blues, rock and Indian classical. I attempt to play the harmonica much to the discomfort of others around. I am also an avid railway modeller. Will post pics of my last layout one of these days. Other than that, I have done my share of rafting, scuba, sky diving, though not recently. Right now, nine, of us friends are setting up a sustainable community in Wayanad where we all plan to live the rest of our lives. Hope to get loads of time to pursue model RR and RC.
:headscratch: copyright claim on Alpha & Omega ? :banghead: video is not available for preview ?..........

That caught my old eyes ;D Wayanad as in Kerala ? If yes, where abouts in Wayanad ? Please feel free to respond via PM for the sake of privacy, should you choose so. I am also doing some things in Wayanad, hence the interest !
Hi Anwar
No I have no privacy problems on the Wayanad project. Nine of us have bought 13 acres of land near Vaghery and are building 6 individual cottages and a common building housing all of the common utilities including a common kitchen. The idea is to re-invent the joint family system but with friends so that we have a good support system as we age. We will try and grow most of our own food and keep 4 cows for milk produce and manure.
Would love to hear what you are doing there and in which area. Are you too planning on shifting to wayanad? That would be awesome.
Great idea Mr.Dasgupta.A first in India?
That's what I was thinking, Great Idea! But would it work out?
Quote from: vinay on July 22, 2011, 08:07:11 PM
But would it work out?
Seems possible...
@Mr.Dasgupta:How do you plan to provide electricity?Solar panels or wind turbines?
Seems possible when there is good money backup / inflow. Think about plowing fields in the hot summer sun and growing crops that may simply get infected and not yield anything. We always think about things going well sitting in front of a comp. Real life aint that easy my friend! Especially when its planned life long.
But its a great thing to do! It's almost like putting my dream(and many others) into reality :hatsoff:
Sure,it might have some problems but since it is a collective effort,it should work out.Wish all the guys involved the best.Hope you guys can make it work.
Thanks guys. By the way, its Pradeep, not Mr. dasgupta, for heavens sake! We chose Wayanad for a couple of good reasons - great climate at 3000 ft. no real summer and no real winter. Just a heavy monsoon. Can get a bit on the nerves sometimes. Have been there throughout the year and worked physically. Not a problem. So no air cons. Hence a lot of energy saving. Some solar power but not much as it is still not fully viable in terms of cost vs efficiency. So most of the electricity is from the grid. But we do plan to build up solar gradually. Wind not workable there. Already done feasibility study. But we have huge rainwater harvesting. 8 months of the year we just consume what we capture off our roofs and the balance 4 months we take ground water from the well which has been replenished from our cachment area. We are planning bio gas plants for the kitchen. So, its kind of sustainable without breaking our banks. We know the problems of living in a community but we opted for it consciously against living a lonely life in the city as we grow older. Further this kind of a country life would not be feasible without support from friends. So we will have to learn to live together through fights and happier times.
As for failing crops, we know its a reality. So our crop growing is not a commercial venture. Its just for self consumption. Its like having six kitchen gardens put together.
Vinay is right. Money back up is important. All of us have saved and invested enough not to really have to work for a living anymore. So we pursue our hobbies, look after the land and see where it takes us. It is a dream and I guess there is no time like now to see if we can turn it into a reality.
Wish us all the best!
Looks like good place to hang your boots. Had similar view about sulthan bathery when I drove through. Alternative energy can sustain us , I guess, without the use of fossil fuel. If one anchors at a place
I guess we have come to that age when we want to hang up the existing boots and wear new ones! We have no intentions of retiring. Just a change in lifestyle and a sort of re-invention, I guess. Would like to know what Anwar is planning though.
Mr. ujjwaana
The pics you posted are just brilliant {:)}
You seem to be a professional photographer  Wow :salute:
