I also do 3dsmax in my spare time. When i get too stressed out in college i unwind by either making a plane or a 3dsmax model. I did make an animation also about 2 or 3 years ago in 3dsmax.
I call my work 'MAXimizing the third dimension' http://naatumach.deviantart.com/
You can see the video on

You got a special grafix card for 3ds max?

I took up Photography, after my stint with Chuck gliders. Was my primary hobby along with trekking when I discovered that R/C has become very much affordable (really??). Some of my pics attached below. You may visit my photostream on flicker and leave comments:

As i understand 3dsmax is more intensive on the processor than the video card.
Yes i do own a good quality dedicated graphics card, i got that for gaming.

Then what are all those quardo/fireGL series card for? I tot they were used for them. I guess maya or some software uses them for rendering images fast. BTW I agree that CPU gets used a lot.

naatumach

Yes, it does help in rendering. There is a noticeable reduction in render time. still it is more dependent on the processor.

BTW I agree that CPU gets used a lot.
Professional production houses use Grid/Clusters to do the Rendering operation. People also utilize the computing power of GPU  of their high end video cards  to complement the main CPU. These rendering are hardly done real time, especially the production one. they are so intense that even a 'Draft' / quick render  may set your :Rs: 30000+ Video card up for slog.

Agreed, This is out of topic, but could not control posting it here. Real time Grafix  :hatsoff: Watch it in HD. My poor 8800GT OC cant run it.

These rendering are hardly done real time
Rendering can "NEVER" be done real time.
If you have 30 frames per second, that is 2secs to render one frame that is virtually impossible render even if you are making a mediocre frame.
I have had render times of 9minutes on a single frame.
Once i had to run 5 PCs continuously for 32hours to render an animation with just one light source.

It all depends on the rendering engine and optimizations I guess. I guess todays quad sli/cross fire can easily spit out 3+ tera flops. The same thing to be done on a CPU requires a lot of CPUs, though they are flexible on instructions. Probably Intel's Larrabe may help. For example the video I posted above is almost realistic and today's cards can churn out 25+ FPS at 1080P. Am I wrong?

i think it should be WW II... just a typo :salute:

and dont worry it will take 8 more WWs for the 11th to come...!

This unplugged life is good As well as sucks. Be that as it may. Kayaking. Scuba. Sky diving. horse riding. Trekking . Mountain biking . Painting and singing. ( I wish I had 48 hrs a day) I steal some from my sleep. 4-5 hrs is good enough I guess for all. Will share pics soon.
Ps
Carloz did a lot of aerial filming of late. Will it be of help? Need permission from higher ups to give it to u. Gimme a holler, it is in HD

This is a very interesting idea - talking about what we do other than RC. It gives all these names on the forum an extra dimension. Makes them all so much more real. I have been around for almost 60 years now doing mostly what is contained in my website: http://www.pradeepdasgupta.com. I play tennis regularly, read a lot, listen to jazz, blues, rock and Indian classical. I attempt to play the harmonica much to the discomfort of others around. I am also an avid railway modeller. Will post pics of my last layout one of these days. Other than that, I have done my share of rafting, scuba, sky diving, though not recently. Right now, nine, of us friends are setting up a sustainable community in Wayanad where we all plan to live the rest of our lives. Hope to get loads of time to pursue model RR and RC.

That caught my old eyes ;D  Wayanad as in Kerala ? If yes, where abouts in Wayanad ? Please feel free to respond via PM for the sake of privacy, should you choose so.  I am also doing some things in Wayanad, hence the interest !
