I was watching "Science Of Movies" on Discovery Science recently and saw a segment about animatronics and the tech used in it.

They showed Specials puppets equipped with a lot of servos and receivers and controlled by about 2 futaba radios and showed complex setting and mixing they had done. They had about 12 standard servos working together to produce complex facial expressions.
