Since Anwar  did not accept my excuse of not having a good camera  >:( ;) 8-)  I decided to buy one in the next  couple of days .

Spoke to our forum's hero  ;) ;D Chan  and he recommended a Cannon S5IS or S6IS saying Video quality is good but photo's are great  so it is better than a dedicated Video camera  and still photos in that are bad , he also said he is very happy with his Cannon S2IS.

I am inclined agree with him rather than a dedicated Video Camera a Digital Camera with an 8 GB card capable of decent Video should be the best of both world's like my ASSAN 2.4G  :P >:D

Would like to know others experiences as well as that will help me a good deal. :discuss:

We all know you are just using my name to keep the family from interfering with your additional spending  >:D  8-)

The S5IS is a good choice, with 12x optical zoom and a decent video mode.

S5IS is quite old. Go for the newer version. But it will be bulkier than regular pocket cams. So be ready to pull it along. I have used S5IS several times and got decent results, but was a bit slow and not very sharp since I was used to my SLR 350D.

If you are just looking at getting decent results with min effort, look at the IXUS series, very compact and easy to use. But you will miss the 12x long range of the prosumer cameras.

Post your needs in detail and will be able to suggest something. I was in Photography in my free time before jumping into RC.  ;D

Anwar ,
Believe me you are one of the  reasons for me buying the the camera the other being Saju landing up with discharged batteries  so both you Maalus are making me spend  >:( :giggle: :giggle:.

Ajo ,
My spec very simple  both Photos and Video's of RC Planes  . Zoom on Video mode is essential   to be able to get the plane when flying. Prefer it to be 1 camera .

Guys, I think investing in an inexpensive DigCam for RC mount is putting bucks on single stock. you are not going to use most of the advance feature and they would be bulky as well.

I think cheapo and smaller Chinese  cams like ApiTek,Wespro, Intex etc can do a similar job and you can buy 2-3 for the same price. They record equally good pics in VGA and loosing then on a bad landing wont put a big hole in your pocket.

Just my thoughts.

PS:
Any body using those fancy HUD/Telemetry cams in India ? NepaStar from Nepal has an excellent footage form one of them!

My Suggestions :
Mega Pixels is not important as one is not a professional photographer, all digital camera user view their Pic on Desktop, laptops or very few on Projectors, and for all viewing, max 1-3 Megapixel is more then sufficient, MOST IMPORTANT is the optical zoom, use a camera with max optical zoom capable. low priced DC is available with max 3x optical zoom....which is a waste......10x is good.............sony has a camera with 6MP and 10x OZ function (approx Rs.12k). for our purpose where we need to take a very closeup photos super Macro Mode (0 cm shooting) is also important (macro mode is normal available).
I don't remember the sony camera Model No. but it has all the important functionality which low cost camera lacks.

Important functions:
a. View Finder.
b. Zoooooooooooom in video mode.
c. more Optical zooooooooooooooooom.
d. Super macro mode.

SLR is also not recommended as it require a different lens setup for different photo modes.

Overall : Cannon S51S is a very very very very very good option.......

I am not looking for an on board cam. I am doing FPV with such cams already.
Looking for shooting my action

The Cannon S5 IS already has 3 backers by now  seems to be the preferred one

I beg your pardon!.

In that case, price should not be a big constraint as its a long time investment (it would easily last/remain useful for 4-5 years). The deciding factors should be :

1. ZooM. Anything is less when it comes to Zoom (Focal length in SLR terms). More you have, the better. Believe me , I have a huge 400mm Prime (fixed focal) lens for my dSLR, mainly for bird photography, and i carve for more. You have 20-25x zooms on P&S (point and Shoot) these days, which would be great for the job.

2. Image stabilization. to complement ultra tele lenses (25x are over 400mm in 35mm equivalent)
This would help taking crisp sharp images even hand held.
3. Good performance at high ISO : Taking 1 & 2 in consideration, you would always push to max aperture and crave for higher shutter speeds. Being able to shoot at higher ISO with low noise would also be great advantage.
4. Last but not the least having more MegaPix always helps. if not linearly, they can provide additional 'zoom'  because with same lens, bigger (Pix) picture will have bigger image of your subject, which you can later 'crop' to attain closer image of the plane.
5. As mentioned by Sandeep, macro is a must to take close-up of your planes, epscially those scratch built and exotic ones. They also have decent (if not professional) macro function for the price.!

All in all, I would recommend Sony digi cams as they perform well on High ISO and
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX1
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Sony/sony_dschx1.asp

This could be a good choice as part for other things, they have good video mode and good support and service.

Hope this helps.

Did some serious reading and  looking up and should say a Cam Corder  is what will suit me best .
My existing camera's trade  in value is so poor  :o :o that I might as well keep it for taking photos and go in for a Cam Corder  so that I can get great Videos  so the Cannon FS 200 is what it would be

Thanks for the help and advise guys  {:)}  :salute:
