AL HAM SHARI

Hello friends,
After many months, I'm active in RcIndia forum. Now, I've made a Flite Test Old Fogey 3 ch trainer. Due to more weight, I've done some modifications to the plan. I didn't build the power pod which was swappable. Instead, I used foam board reinforcement. I also removed the canopy glass for future FPV needs as dihedral wings are very stable. I used 4 mm foam board ( laminated Depron ) for the whole plane. So, we need no reinforcement with Cf rods or fibreglass tape. I used fibreglass for motor mount instead of plywood. Because it is very light and many times stronger. I also made two rectangular holes at sides and reinforced it with rubber band by putting it to the Cf rod placed above for the wing. I velcroed the esc into the front reinforce of the plane. I used 2 mm bicycle spoke wire with cutted foam and rubber toy wheel tyre for landing gear. I super glued ear ring buttons for washers on wheels.
There is no wheel mount. I just put a slit where it can be inserted and fitted by copper wire and rubber band. Because, Landing skids work better on grass. So, I put four holes to screw the skids. I can put landing gear and skids according to the terrain condition. Flaps are made by taping simple packing tape to one side and creasing 50%. Then folded to the most side and scarred the leading edge. Then put tape in this side while folded most. Move many times with hand for smooth control surface.

This is the list of materials used. I will also list where to buy it:-

● 4 mm foam board. 1 1/2 sheets is more than enough. ( laminated Depron as called in India ). [ not available in 65% of stores. Available at home decor stores. If in Kerala, ask Shijin PS. He goes to Tiruvananthapuram to take it. Its Rs 400 per sheet. You can contact him and ask where he gets it although he gave 1 1/2 sheets for free.]

● Fibreglass Board for motor mount. [ available at home decor, some hardware stores and 100% on stores for construction purpose.]

● 1 mm wire almost 1 mts needed. [ available at most hardware stores and mostly its for free.]

● 2 mm wire. [ I bought it at a bicycle store. Only one piece needed. Less than Rs 10.]

● Wheels from Rc stores or make wheels by cutting 3-4 pieces of round foam and stacking it to a small rubber tyre from toy cars. I used tyre from an old Formula 1 r/c race car. [ either go for high cost Rc wheels online or make low cost wheel with foam and your cousin's damaged toy car.]

○ptional Use a landing skid for lightweight options. Its also much better than wheels on grass or sand [ Take landing gear from an old big Rc heli toy or buy plastic skids for 400 size helis. Do not buy plane skids from online. They do not work as a landing gear.]

● Ear ring nut or any other washers. 2 nos. [ I used ear ring buttons from a Jewellery. You can also use hot glue instead or any washers.]

● control horns 2 nos. [ buy online or make one like me using foam and ear ring buttons. Online recommended as this must be reinforced to stick to control surface.]

● Cf rod, balsa rod or any other rod which is available to you [ you know where it is found. I used Cf rod. Cf rod recommended.]

● rubber bands 10 pcs. [ found at stationary stores. You dont need much.]

● Velcro straps. [ found at all hobby stores and most computer shops, art stores etc. ]

Here is the electronic configuration:-

● avionic Rcb6i Tx/Rx. [ found at Rcbazaar.com you can use any other receiver systems like turnigy etc.]

● Wolfpack 2 cell 1800 mah LiPo battery. [ Found at Rcbazaar.com you can use any other brand. I used 2 cell. But, 3 cell 850-1300 mah recommended for best results.]

● Avionic 20 amp esc [ Its found at Rcbazaar.com. You can use any other esc from rating 18-20 amp, 20 amp recommended.]

● Avionic 9 gm servos 2 nos. [ Found in Rcbazaar.com. You can also buy any other 9 gm servos from other hobby stores online.]

● Emax CF2805 brushless motor. [ This is my motor selection. But Emax CF 2822 is highly recommended. Both are available at vibranthobbies.com for the lowest price.]

● 10X4 Propeller [ from Rcbazaar.com,vibranthobbies.com etc. I highly recommend using 9X5 Propeller instead for CF2805. Read the combination of CF 2822 before buying for that motor.

● 3 mm prop adapter or prop mount. [ from vibranthobbies.com. You can buy from any other website.]

Here is the tools required:-

● Art knife [ from stationary stores.]

● Screw driver

●scale 30 cms

● Pliers

● soldering iron

● hot glue gun [ found at Rcbazaar.com.]

Here are other supplies needed :-

● insulation tape or heat shrink tubing [ found at electrical shops.]

● Packing tape or fibreglass tape or duct tape.

● Hot glue sticks

● fabric paint ( green )

● paint brush

● a crazy hand to make cool vinyls

● a creative mind

● most important, common sense.

Here is the main site with plans at the bottom of the last picture. The E.C. in website is costly than what I did. Better stick to plans. The power pod is in another page. Only cancel power pod if its heavy. Then reinforce it with foam. Do not blindly  accept my opinion. There are people who are much experienced than me. Feel free to ask them.

Thanks to RcIndia for motivating RC hobbiyists like us to stay on this hobby.
