hello everyone! here i'm again with my 3rd entry to the 2015 sweepstakes. this time its 1903 wright flyer scratch build with actual wing warping.... i was out of station for few days , that's why i'm late in posting and will continue the build from today onward..

since i was unsuccessful in getting plans for this build so i will have to figure out the dimensions to build this awesome flyer, though i have taken references from many google images...
so for this build i'm going to use 3mm depron , barbecue sticks, carbon rods, clear tape , glue and some miscellaneous stuffs (will figure out later)..
i started this build on 2nd July 2015.

3mm depron to be used...

covered the depron with clear tape for strength and for easy folding...

drawing out the wing pattern.... taken reference from some google pics for the shape.. wing is 29 inch in length..

measured and sketched the lines of the crease for bending the depron to wing shape.. they are 1/2 inch gapes..

making the crease and folding the depron...

made lines where the ribs are going to be glued...

made some ribs with 3mm depron...

ribs glued in place

made that triple layer sandwiched parts so that the wings can hold itself to the frame....

yesterdays progress:- (15th July 2015)

the most painful and time taking process was to connect the wings as it took me the whole day to do the thing properly and now its all glued and its symmetric with 10cm gape throughout the wings...

measured and poked some holes near the wing ribs where the sticks will go...

took 8 2mm carbon tubes and 10 barbecue sticks. they all are 10.6cm in length ( since i want 10cm of gape between two wings and my wings are 3mm in thickness so, 10cm+0.3cm+0.3cm=10.6cm)

completed wings.. these are 10cm all around symmetric...

some updates from 16th July 2015:-

while the wing is all glued and done, its time to build the wing warping mechanism..
took screw hole part from a 9g servo protector and glued it to the wing which will act as a connect point for the servo push rod.

made the hole to mount the servo in place...

servo mounted. i'm using micro servos for this build..

glued a carbon strip at front for strength because the wing will bend at that point..

rod connected...

when the servo push or pull diagonally, causing the wing ends to warp... will post a video of the wing warping at the end of the build... for the time being wing completed..

now moving on to the frame..
starting with the back rudder part...
used these parts..

also glued 4 servo protector parts at the front and back of the wing to connect it to the frame.. it will also be a removable wing build since i face problems taking my fully glued planes to the field...

used some carbon rods and strip for the base plate where the wing will seat on to the frame and will be fixed using rubber bands..

glued them together..

making of lower rudder arm..

this is how the wing sits on to the frame..

building the rudder:-
used 5mm depron and some barbecue sticks for the rudder...
glued two sticks together with super glue and copper wire.. and drilled a hole in the middle....

glued them together.....

conneted to the frame with two screws.....

glued the rudder servo to the wing..... i'm using micro servos....

connedted the push rod to the rudder...

this is how the connecting rod is connecting the servo and the rudder... it goes inside a plastic tube....
