Ailerons and Elevators channels are mixed to act as ailerons as well as elevators. I am planning not to use the elevators in the back of plane as they are very thin piece.
Is this made of biofoam or high density thermocol and what is the thickness of the sheet?
And the AUW?
Was there a thread dedicated to this project or is it the first time we see it??? If its the first time then kindly provide the deatils(including the electronics used).
this is high density thermocol, sliced from the packing of fridge.
Wings thickness is 5mm and fuse's thickness is 15mm, I could have made the wings even thinner but this is thermocol and could easily break with that thin layer

All up weight - how much the model weighs with everything that's going to be on it when its airborne.
:) I thought so but then decided to ask... I have yet to calculate the AUW. Once I finished wrapping up everything I would tell the AUW. I am actually thinking which battery to use 500mah or 650mah and also little confused in 25A ESC or 18A ESC... suggestions?
Your motor has current range 6-10 A. So I think you can safely use 18A ESC and save few grams.
I case of battery you can use 610mAh 20C which gives you 610x20 = 12200mAh = 12.2 A. As per your motor specification it needs around 10A so u can use it safely. But is always better to do some static test using watt meter before choosing battery.
Hey nice work. :) Looks like you have been busy ever since you got hold of the fridge thermocol and the coloured tapes :D Thats one colourful model you got there. One suggestion though - Why not use black tape for the cocpit? Maybe black insulation tape?
The only model i saw was of the one you were testing the other day. This doesn look similar though :headscratch:
Would like to be there for the maiden - can also capture a good video :)

Hey i noticed you bought control horns. Did you order screws for these as well ? Are screws needed (on hk site the reviews say screws are needed) ? If no then how do you attach them - glue?

Thanks, I will check. A related question... what if my motor need just 10A and I provide it 25-30A... any negative side that you could think of? How much access or less amp is good for the motor?

Sure, we have to maiden it on a nice open area... dont really want to try in the same ground. Maybe BEML ground. oh yeah sorry I shown you the scratch piper-j and not this one... my bad :)
I though blue body and black cockpit will not give it much contrast so used yellow instead, yeah this tape is very good in quality. I guess I need to get more in my inventory :)

Nope, I like to keep things simple. I make a cut in the body/wing using my x-acto knife and make it little big so that control can go inside. Then I first fill the cut with hot glue and place the control inside. to give it enough strength. see attachment.

Your battery does not provide current on its own. It is motor which drags current from battery. So you can use battery of higher rating than minimum requirement of motor. Higher the mAh rating you use more the flight time you get.
So you should always use battery which is capable of providing little higher current than required by motor.

You are correct. Battery, ESC are provider and motor drags current through them, so they will allow only that much current which is dragged by motor. So it will be safe to use ESC and Battery as long as they have at least little more current rating that motor.

The servos seem to be hooked differently - never seen ailerons and elevators controlled by the same servo. Is that a new design. Also, the push rods must have "Z" bends at the point where the push rods connect to the clevis.
Rudder Direction is reversed. ?

Yeah we can maiden at BEML ground. Its free anytime after 10am and before 3am. Except on holidays when the whole indian crowd is on that patch of land :D

why don't you come over ? I am at home. For others... It is mounted on a stick mount which is going through the fuse from start to end... see the attachment. It's balsa stick and secured in foam & also on motor mount (after screws) using hot glue to avoid any vibration.

Very nice plane!
You may absolutely be the first person to have the same servos controlling the ailerons and elevators on a parkflyer type of aircraft. I may however be wrong. I too am a gr8 fan of Dave. The type of aircraft that Dave is flying is a parkjet where the elevators also function as ailerons. They are both one and the same, so it has to be mixed for the particular function. However, if ur setup is effective, it will be a new frontier. All the best. Waiting for the maiden vid. Also kindly update wingspan and AUW.

Did a test taxi and the landing gears are little soft and may result in a crash on little rough landing. Probably will do a test using the same gears. Wingspan is 460 mm and length is 440 mm, AUW is 205gm.

Hey all, What a day it was :) I did a glide test at home and it did glide not perfectly due to weight but yeah it was able to land safely.
Actual flight, I could not take off from ground as it was not flat land so I decided to hand launch. I launch badly, it turned one side and boom crashed on motor.
Crash report: The propeller broke off to become single wing propeller :), the motor mount stick broke and motor came off and I am too upset as I did not get a second chance to try it. It's back in hangar and waiting for repairs.. video will be up soon.
So what else we did, we went to a nice field in the evening with Rajath and two other local RC flyers. I took my Piper J and what a flier it is... only 25gm AUW , its a park flier and did pretty well even in cross winds :) Again video will be up soon.

Guys, I was really confused... should I really put the effort on this guy or use the biofoam that I just purchased to start from scratch.. and I decided I will put this model on hold as it is little heavy for its size. So I made myself a Su-26, 3D foamy using the foam... man its very nice foam. I will start a new thread for its build.
