Why should Bolts have all the fun*?
*funjets, that is.

What we need is a Fanjet

I know what i want to build:

K K Iyer

Have a fan,
A clean slate,
ONE sheet of 8mm biofoam,
A head full of imagined drawings and dimensions
What more does one need?

sundaram

Iyer Sir,

what came to my mind immediately was this and discussion on similar thought with one of my RC friend from jamshedpur to make a RC fan jet trainer with this.  ;D

While posting this I saw that you had already updated your next post. Nevertheless will be closely following.  {:)} {:)}

I spy some DT 700 motors there................
Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional!

Er, youneed calculations.
Since payload (EDF, battery, esc, 2 servos, trike) weigh 220gms,
And 40"x20" 8mm biofoam weighs 160gms, or 0.2 gms/sqin,
And know from experience that total material used will be 4-5 times the wing area,
And not wanting to exceed 10oz/sqft as my flat plate Spitfire is fast enough at 330gms, 7oz/sqft,
And for correct scale a 33" span needed a 6" root and 4" tip, 5" avg, 165 sqin,
And at estimated gross of 380gms or 13oz, it would have exceeded 12oz/sqft,
Cheated a bit and decided on 7" root, 5" tip,
To be within 10oz/sqft loading.

General dimensions based on Paul Willenborg drawing of Cox powered Fantrainer (maybe over 20 years old) downloaded from outerzone.co.uk.

No plan, no drawing. But Have Gun, Will Travel

Wish me luck.

The problem with scratch builds, especially without plans,
Is that you think of something new at each stage.
Entire day today went in figuring out and fabricating the cockpit canopy.
Since it is only the front one, will have to spend another day on rear cockpit...

...and then if pilots are needed...

VinayakR

Shaping up pretty well Sir, what glue you are using for this build ?

docnayeem

K k iyer sir .... Great going ....

K K Iyer

Cockpit extended to accomodate co-pilot.
Bulkhead hollowed out so that rear pilot can see forward.
Don't even try to glue the canopy in one shot.
Tape one edge first and ensure plastic aligns with the opposite side when folded over.

Fanjet temporarily on backburner,
Due to repairing Ahmed's crashed Corsair.
That geared 370 brushed motor sounds terrible.
After all these brushless motors we've got used to.

How time flies!
That Corsair got fixed and went on another thread somewhere in RCI.
BUT
Fanjet on backburner for nearly 3 years!
Better do something before Admin bans members who start builds, then never complete them!

Was looking at my drawing room / junkyard (pics 1&2)
And found this (pic 3)
Wonder where the EDF is.  :banghead:
Used to have two (unused so far)

If only I had sanjayrai55's zeal and organising skills  ;D
