This is an attempt with honest efforts to convert a Guillow's Cessna 180 rubber powered model of 20inch wing span to electric from RCBAZAAR. I'm hoping it doesn't end up as a static model in some show case. I've this doubt because i already feel that it's a little bit too heavy for a model of this size. But anyways, it's a mere attempt so it doesn't matter much.
I started the build about 2 weeks back and there has been some progress.

Electronics:
Brushless Motor 4000kv (From AEW) - 5gms
6A brushess ESC (From AEW) -5gms
3.6gms x 2 servos (From RCB)
3 channel receiver 2.4ghz - 5gms (From THS - Hopefully on the way)
2s lipo 250mAH - 15gms (From AEW)
4x2.5 GWS propeller (Again from AEW)

Well, the AUW of the model is coming upto 70gms, so its heavy. May be, I could lose some weight with a lower mAH battery but that's the best i've come up with. The model itself with tissue, without the electronics was at 29gms which is good in some way. I would like to get some feedback and suggestions from the masters to bring down the weight further. Also, I'm guessing if at all it flies, its gonna be at great speed which mandates an expert skill which i don't have. I'll upload pics of the build progression in sometime:-)

Few pics of the build.... ;)

Here is the motor I am going to use and the Tissue dried after spraying water onto it... Ok results...

would love to see it fly during the meet at aizawl

If it flies... :)..

Good to see you are so enthusiastic about an 'attempt'.  Really hope it flies.
How are you going to attach the servos and control surfaces?

intorc

Swapnil, the wings can be detached from the fuse. In fact i've installed the servos for elevator with control rods, but rudder is still left out. I'm finding some difficulty in uploading few more pics. Let of try again.

Its a way bit powerfull power plant for the model surely and it sure is going to fly well  and too fast. In my opinion since you are flying without aileron restrict throttle to 60% only for maiden attempt.

intorc

I don't ve the provision to measure the throttle curve but would 3x3 prop also suffice? I'm guessing it would be ok... 60% throttle would be about 60gms pull with 4x2.5...

sundaram

By the way I forgot to mention earlier, fantastic built.   {:)} {:)}

If you have a DR then use 60% for throttle channel through a toggle switch. If not
just control the throttle input to  60% for first maiden take off attempt and do a long runup. Use same 4 inch prop.

I still remember my initial attempt with a foam model of similar AUW and power setup with full throttle, it was so powerfull that the model looped over and crashed on take off even before I realised it. Then I used a single cell setup with 3A ESC only. I dont know if you have setup of single cell.

intorc

Thanks Sundar,.. What single cell setup would you suggest? I thought about 1s but i resorted to 2s because i assumed it would be under powered...moreover i have never used a single cell setup other than those IR based toy helicopters... I just invested on a new low budget 9x radio and need to study the documentation for dual rates which i hope its one of the feature. So at this point i'll settle for what i ve in hand. But i would like to keep my options open to bring down the AUW to the minimum possible.

KALYANPRODHAN

volume product of 4x2.5 prop= (4*4*2.5)=40 ---Neglecting constant like TT / 4
Volume product of 3x3 prop = 3*3*3=27---Neglecting constant like TT / 4
ratio is 0.675 --Good Judgement

Single servos will be of 1.5gm one. but receivers modules required.
We have to unite and to prove ourself to make indigenous products as well as marketing / Canvasing them. I'm sure we must achieve success if we try unitedly.

intorc

Hi Kalyan,

I am absolutely unsure of what you meant. I'm going to require further explanation on this. I'm sorry if this is a trivial thing but i'm not very fluent in these calculations...

just a question i had for  long..! does these esc also work as BEC for the receivers...?? or we need a  seperate power for esc..!

was planning to get one of these. and use it  with my corona  72mhz ( plane is a self designed, waiting for electronics once all  in hand then will start  the build...)

The 3 ESC does not provide a BEC since the very fact that it is a 1S ESC it does not require a BEC ( which usually is 5V for all standard receivers) it runs with only a 1S capable receiver (i.e the receiver can run directly on a 1S lipo supply)

RcBazaar

Good build. Hope to see it fly.

BTW we have got some micro servos in store. Will be updating on the site soon.

Nice going Gusty sir!! Just curious what is this tissue ? we used to use Tracing paper and then apply dope on that long back... some 'Jet Set' material ?
regarding the motor, isn't 4000kv motor a bit too much ? I used 3800kv motor on Funjet and it was a killer...

Didn't realize it until Sundaram mentioned it. I'll be limiting to 60% throttle like he said and see how it goes. The rudder setup is almost done with the control rods and i'm adjusting the throws. This radio is good in terms of features. Not sure if i'll using all of it but this is the 1st time i'm using a computer radio and the E.Point cut off is good. Can make nice adjustments.
The tissue is what came with the kit and its almost like the tracing paper. Don't know if its exactly the same but it looks like so. I didn't use dope since i couldn't find it but i used 50-50 fabric glue and water. Did about 2 coats... Gives a good shine and its water proof.

ashJR7202

I had this kit 2 yrs back, bought from some mall in Navi Mumbai.

In fact i also wanted to convert it electric, but left it in the middle... was still with me till i shifted to pune last month, didnt get much time to complete it. to strengthen wing i used 2mm square CF bar running from one tip to another, instead of regular balsa strip.
i used feviquick instead of cement provided with it!!!

all the best and keep us updated!!!

Sujju Sir, if only I'd seen it before hand. Anywayz, if my current gear is too heavy, i'll definitly take those micro servos... I thank you again for bringing Guillow's in India:-)

sundaram

Please post reference link of the receiver you are planning to use. is it with mini or micro JST socket.

I have picked up a Arrow 28" and fairchild 25". however build will commence only after Param returns from Pune in first week Feb.

I picked up planning to use a cox 0.049 glow but its recommended engine is only 0.02 Glow which I realized only after receiving it (which also seems to be way too powerful for the light model).
