The Cap turns out to be a cool model to fly, so here is a build.
Thanks to Sanjay sir for inducing the bug and for the large printed plans
1. Marked the fuse on a sheet that I wasted while making a Mugi Evo
2. The back of the fuse cut out
3. Empennage
4. Used chopstick to strengthen the elevator
1. The basic fuse skeleton with motor mounted

4. Complete assembly with turtle deck formers and cage
1. Empennage added to fuse. Added coro cage to the 'cowl?' for vinyl sheeting

1. The wing is two pieces. Brackets to hold wing made out of old credit cards. The extra blue wires are for LEDs
2. Wing joined in centre with two M3 nuts. The angle of incidence was preset to 4 degrees before inserting wing. 4 was out of intuition. did not want to go overboard and stall the wing
3. Another view of where the wings mate in centre. the wing mount receptacles have been reinforced with old credit cards since
4. Complete view of the airframe
1. Going in for CG Balancing. The vert stab decorated with vinyl.. some other coverings also done
2. The electronics/lg and other items fitted after cg balancing. Approximate location of electronics, LG etc are marked on coro at this stage. The stand is DIY ;D
3. LEDs on the wing. These were done before closing the wing... Attach to the rx via a 220 ohm
4. LEDs on the other wing
1. Battery tray and other hatches added. The rear hatch is for assembling/disassembling the wing
2. The complete build with canopy added (Aaj kuch toofani karte hain bottle). The vinyl covering was replaced with chart paper... will be adding vinyl later from completing the decal.

That cap not exactly diy... Yes the logo was self designed for our club..we all have one with our name on it.. And we've jackets too for the winters...
One suggestion about leds...
Instead of attaching them to rx, why not give each led a separate cell (used in watches) that can be removes from the side if it gets completely discharged?
Yups that crossed my mind (2xCR2016 or 2032), but I'd have had to put a separate mechanism to turn them on and off, this I originally wanted to control via Tx...and honestly this was a last moment thought before closing the wing. Then I realised the current draw was not major so I did this... In my next build I'll most likely use a home brewn flasher for the LEDs, Tx controlled... this will come in handy then :thumbsup:

Some questions...
Is that hardwood spar a 'beading' strip?
Does this model have dihedral, if yes, do you have pictures of how you joined the two spars at an angle?

Azad, yes that's a 'beeding' or 'margin' like carpenters call it... this model does not have a dihedral but the wing thickness varies from the root to the tip... that has been done by using a wood plane (classic randha) to taper the spar on the bottom edge, and then the tapered edge is glued to the wing bottom, the spar ends about 4 inches inside the wing on either side to reduce weight.
Sorry don't have pictures but for a fixed thickness wing the dihedral can easily be made by gluing the two halves at an angle with each other, and wrap the joint. This one needed a different treatment.

One question though.
How come both yours and Rai saheb's seem to fly so slow and easy as if wing loading is quite low,
But they land fast as if wing loading is high?

The wing loading is high indeed, these boys come in hot and fall out of the sky the moment the throttle goes down... for the maiden's we both got them about three mistakes high, given the kind of concrete jungle Gurgaon is, maybe they get some decent amount of air to ride on at that height...
Or maybe its just me and Rai sir graduating to acrobats...:D

Thanks Abhay, sometimes we fly on Wednesday mornings... in the past we've been at the field on other days as well... I remember speaking to Sanjay sir about you joining us in the mornings sometime back...
The spad cap has turned out to be one of my fav fliers now. 80+ flights and a few crashes.
Crashed sometime back, leaving the spar sheared, since then changed the spar clamping mechanism. Some other changes/repairs made as well:
1. Now using Jubilee clamps to clamp spar in between, the clamps give in to metal fatigue easily so I just loosen them and pull the spar out from both sides. Some repairs on left wing.
2. Slipped plastic nut bolts from my little one's mechanix kit to hold the wing in place :D. These things are great. I wish hobby shops stocked these.
3. The angle of incidence was fixed. Started with about 4 degree, would go vertical despite major downthrust, and tendency to stall as if tail heavy, reduced to 0 deg.
4. DIY hatch locks for coro, and lots of hotglue repairs
It's a great flyer, for sure
