Last month, I had bought a rc car kit without any electronics and it came fine. I had to pay customs duty, and banggood reimbursed it. Stay away from Expedited delivery option.
I am not sure on planes.

Definitely you can..provided you can prove to customs that it can't fly..Just joking...

There are high chances of it getting confiscated...

Kits without electronics did pass through in the past. One of my friends has recently ordered one PNP from Ali Express. Will keep posted.

All I mean to say is that 'It involves risk of being confiscated.'

But the enthusiastic ones may take chances !!!

Is asking customs upfront an option?

It's a good option to consider buying a kit only..and then buying electronics as per your own choice...from what I know pnp models often don't have the best quality electronics installed...
Keep posted if you order...I myself am looking to order a skyhunter from BG..am unsure of customs tho
