Here is one of my recent design and build.. a 1.5m ePowered plank, for thermal and slope

Not too high AR and the elevons are placed outboard to keep the inboard wing clean for maximum lift, specially at low speeds

The wing is of Composite construction .. hotwired EPS foam , BW050209 airfoil, no twist.. It has a built-up CF spar and laminated with fiberglass. The wing tips are flat plate (the tips are just to drag the vortex a bit outwards so that the elevons perform better)

The fuselage is 3mm balsa and fiberglassed for strength. .. the tail fin is balsa spaceframe covered with monokote

The dimensions and basic parameters are in the attached pic. For more details and build log please visit https://myrahulroy.blogspot.com/2023/06/cloud-wisper-epowered-plank.html

Do tell more about the lamination of the foam with FG

royrahul

this one is a hand layup (not vacuum bagged).. one ply of 80 gsm fg laid at a 45 degree bias. The root was reinforced with an addition layer of fg cut in a triangular shape. Laminating epoxy was used to wet the fg and adhere it to the foam... almost 70% of the initially applied applied epoxy is squzeeged away, and then lightly pressed with paper towels... so that the fg is held in place with the minimum epoxy (additional epoxy just adds wt)...... the edges, which stand a greater change of delamination, were lightly run over with a roller smeared with epoxy  to ensure adherence at the curves /edges . ... I first did the bottom surface of both the wings , let the epoxy cure while the wings were cradled in the foam blanks from which they hotwired out of... Once cured, the fg at the edges were trimmed.... The same was repeated for the top surface. ... the elevons, servo bay and wing joining holes were done after the whole thing was glassed............. the wing after glassing (minus the electronics, wing tip, pushrod, clevise, control horn) was 215gms per panel.. ie 430gms for the whole span.

Wow! That is complicated, but like your work, precise!

Next time please do a photo/build log of the process

Your work never fails to impress

Here is a link to a video of a flight.. Thanks Abhigyan for flying the quad & filming.

Remarkably smooth.
Making a successful tailless model is a secret art known to very few!

Airborne video make lot of difference to the presentation...

I know FFVII TFS isn't canon, but they weren't subtle in their hints about 'Evil Cloud'. There are many other hints throughout the story to the point where I think it is far more likely to happen than not.

But the wing is 50/50. I think it would be cool, but I could see some of the fandom screaming 'OMG!!!!! NOmUrA TuRnED CLOUD IntO A KinGDuMB HaRT!!!!!'. And I don't wanna have to read those comments. So maybe they shouldn't.
