Started the new year with a beautiful new SPAD; Correx Mig 7. Building using plan by Dave West :hatsoff:.
Got the plan printed on A0 paper. Formers made out of two 3mm coro glued together with flutes perpendicular. Glue the sheets together before cutting the formers to reduce work and cutting error.
Former glued using rubber glue. Fuse cut out of 2.5mm coro and glued using hot glue.
Battery bay is my idea  :P

Ugly spar cut out of 3mm plywood with dihedral brace on both side.

Wing + spar. Airfoil turned out little edgy but still flight worthy.

Fuse sitting on the wing to end the day. Already looking like a real Mig :)

Really a great build  :hatsoff: and MiG-3u is one of my favorite fighter!
which power plant you are planning ? Electric or IC engine?
What is the size of the plane
To increase thrust you need more  money! But to reduce weight you  need nothing!

Thanks Praveen!! This will be powered by a 3536 1100kv motor and a 11x5 prop.
The pane looks huge with wing span of 1600mm and length 1000mm. Trying to keep it under 1.2kg otherwise i'll have to buy new motor for it :-\

Good build Amit, few issues with mig 7 you must know
1. She will be laterally sluggish , may require a shade extra Throw,
2. You will not see the stall coming, she will stall very abruptly, so for the maiden come down with a shade extra speed,
3. Low speed flying will be fun
4. At slightly high alpha she will wallow in roll plane
5. You may require aileron rudder mix for turns for a clean turn.

Let me know the flight report, looking forward to the video

I thought so hence increased rudder by around 30%, will mix with ailerons

That's my biggest worry, add to that a kinked airfoil :(

@ashJR7202 Thanks and welcome to the club :) Yes I heard you were there, looking forward to see you next weekend

1600 mm wing span ! thats a huge plane master  :salute:

As gutsy sir stated it will have poor lateral stab and more prone to tip stalls,so should maintain good speed for landing and sharp turns! even a bit CG variation plane will dance in the air!
my suggestion better to have some  higher kv motor like 1400kv ! will have enough power to pull out from low altitude deep stalls!
because i have faced these problem with lower kv rpm with P-51 elelctric, than i have replaced with 1450kv now it flies like a real one!

All the best for maiden master and waiting for video!

Don't have a better motor right now :( will try with higher pitch prop, maybe a 10x6. hope it works; if not then i'll get a 1400kv motor.

Amit

Laterally sluggish means very stable laterally , Fin height had been a issue with the MiG that's why lateral oscillation at high alpha, good low speed (Without manoeuvring too much). motor should not be an issue, if you pick some speed and climb at a shallow angle of climb

While bending the fuselage, you have to cut the inner surface flute one by one as described in Spad to the boon site and after fixing, just have to glue again with thin epoxy layer so that smooth curves can be achieved with toughened surfaces. A simple picture just added for others drawn in MSPaint and hope it will explain more.
We have to unite and to prove ourself to make indigenous products as well as marketing / Canvasing them. I'm sure we must achieve success if we try unitedly.

Nice plane and Nice flying..!  {:)}

Like someone said what a beauty, did you see the low speed glide, she will be fun there too, also must've noticed how the right wing fell, she is stalling at about 11 alpha, but will recover instantaneously, the moment you lower the nose.

Superb

Thanks a lot guys :)
@Kalyan that's exactly how i did it, a little more patience would have resulted in a smoother curve on the fuselage.
@Augustinev yes she glides a slow speed although the glide ratio is very low. Overall she is more fun at slow speeds

koushik

fantastic plane ....  :hatsoff: .. Maybe you could add a landing gear.. Since it flies in so slow a thin 2 mm steel wire might suffice, no?

SunLikeStar

Thank you Koushik, i have no plans of putting on a landing gear. The field we fly on is not suitable for rolling take off and has enough grass for a belly landing. Also this bird is way to heavy for 2mm :)

Your test pilot looks like Mr Pugachev after a Cobra. Cute
