Hello everyone,

I would like to post a build thread for a very low cost slow stick trainer airplane.
In order to keep costs minimum, will go with DIY route for many things.

Please stay tuned as I start the build of this airplane.

Main priority for this build is :
Low cost build < Rs 5000 with everything except radio .
Low parts count  Only motor, ESC, servos and prop needed.,
and ease of availability of parts/materials - coro, cycle spokes easily available.
. Fast build - can be built in < 6 hours. From start of build to test flight all within one day
Easy flying characteristics - Smooth, gently flier.

Note: As I had to resize the images to upload, the date may not be legible. If needed can provide original hi res images that show the date without blurring.

Built under the guidance of Gaurav Agarwal Sir in Allahabad, UP : http://www.rcindia.org/rc-people/gaurav-agarwal-from-allahabad-up/

Items to be used in the build :

10mmx75cm CF square rod as Fuselage. Will later attempt a wooden stick, or even a PVC pipe to reduce cost.
Coro sheets for wing, tail surfaces
2x 9gm servos
1x 30 Amp ESC
Brushless motor
8x6 prop
2200-3300mah 3S Lipo
DIY motor mount.
CF rods as spars

Here are the dimensions for the plans
Wing : 84cmx18cm - rectangle
Polyhedral wing parts : 18x18mm
Horizontal tail fin : 30cm x 11 cm
Tail Vertical fin : 15cm x 18cm

Hello Pawan....
Hello Sir...
Would love to follow this build thread.. ;D ;D ;D

The Stabilizer build.

Tracing out the tail surface on to the coro sheet.
Then cutting the coro out with a knife . Use a sharp blade to help cut through the flutes.
The elevator hinge is simple made by cutting out only one side of the coro and adding some fiber tape for reinforcement.

It takes around 30 minutes to make this stablizer assembly and is super easy.

Note the flutes should be parallel to the wings.. and not the fuse for strength.

Also recommend to re-inforce the stabilizer using CF rods. Just push them in through the flutes.

Note : Marking on coro sheet should be in CM and not MM.

Next on. Doing the vertical tail fin.

Again first tracing the design on to the coro sheet.
Cutting it out and doing the hinge for the rudder.

It really really helps in using a sharp knife..

Glueing the Tail fin to the carbon rod.

Making the wing.

The wing is just a rectangular block with Carbon reinforcements. THe polyhedral parts are 18x18cm squares mounted at an angle of approx 45 degrees using hot glue.

The wing mount is a small coro piece glues to the center if the wing.

The motor mount.

Made out of locally made aluminium channel

Mount the servos and control linkages.

Control linkage made out of Cycle spokes. A clevis was hot glued to one end.

The servos stuck to the CF fuse using hot glue.

Mounting the motor.

This is the easy one !

The airplane is finally ready !

Build time : 6 hours in all !

Time to hit the field...

The plane came out to be slightly tail heavy.

Battery used was 3S 2200mah . A spare 1000mah 3S battery was used as dead weight to balance.
Will later replace with lead. or a bigger battery pack.

Instead of putting extra weight , move your wing little backward, till you get correct CG.

And .. here is the video :

Test flown by Gaurav sir .
Video expertly recorded by Vivek bhaiya ( Vivek Kushwaha).

Plane flew exceptional. No trims needed at all and no adjustments whatsoever. There was a slight flutter in full throttle and dives, and though it can be fixed by strengthening the wings a bit, I would not care, as the plane flies just PERFECT.

Another video of my flying will come soon.
We did loops too and the plane handles very well.

In all I think the best bet for any new comer with limited funds to build this.
