Post by: sanjayrai55 on December 15, 2013, 07:20:50 PM
Which witch?

Now I have cracked my PJ, let's get on with it :D

Wanted a large corro electric. Based it loosely around the BUHORs dimensions.

Span 60", Fuse 36" OAL 42"", Chord 12"

I used a 3536 - 1500 KV Turnigy motor with a 60 A ESC, and a 3300 mAh LiPo.

Decided to go for a trike set-up, as our ground is pretty rough, and tail-draggers tip over and nicked props too common

Checking the wing location - I temporarily fasten the wing & main L/G with rubber bands, find the right CG balance, and mark the wing location on the fuse

;D ;D Maahin, my younger son has a friend called Divitch. When he calls on the land line, and I pick up the phone, I call my son and say it's Hermione on the phone

Sir, correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the rear landing gear on a trike be close to the CG, to allow the plane to rotate on takeoff??

Rangeela! Has good visibility!

I maidened it yesterday; had a gloriously torrid time. Girish and Arvind were shouting "look out" "turn, turn, fast!" "watch for the parked bike"

"You nearly took of that guy's head"

The throws were tooo..ooo high  8) :D ;) ;)

Managed to land it successfully, and decorated it a bit

Maahin, whyever would you want to "rotate on take-off?"

I like to take off straight, and have maximum ground stability with a longer wheelbase, since I can't make it wider. IMHO ARFs & RTFs and generally most models have the main L/G near the CG, because you don't want to add moment arm to the tail side. As my CG was balancing OK with a rearward position, I went with it and the additional ground handling capability

Throws reduced to 65%, and Girish is going to fly  :giggle: :giggle:

Sir, I read somewhere that if you mount the LG too far back, the elevator will not be able to lift the nose of your plane  for takeoff. This is due to leverage, if the LG is close to the cg, it is pivoted close to the CG.

Needs a little more Aileron/elevator throw reduction and maybe some aileron reflex

Maahin, there is logic to this statement. However, quantification is iffy. In this particular case, the model (quite heavy) lifts off without a problem.

I guess it would be more relevant to an actual aeroplane, which has a large carrying capacity, and would preferably lift it's nose off, taxi on the main gear then take of. In the model, these events happen almost concurrently.

Yes, and probably the incidence of the wing also has something to do with it
