Sanjay... you got us all wanting a SPADCAP 232! :-)

Ideally this should be uploaded at Sanjay's post but I did not want to steal his post so here it is....

I hope I will get to fly Sanjay's original Spadcap 232 in Coro one day as I have been promised it when it is relieved off the service from his fleet....

Sanjay Rai's built such a good plane and after seeing the video of it flying so well I decided to give it a bash in Depron.

Allan Sanders my partner in crime agreed and so we have started building this and will be uploading our progress here... I just hope it flies nice ..

Plans were all enlarged from the A4 sheet downloaded as pdf file.

The wing is nearing completion..

All are self explanatory;

3MM Depron sheet covered in white packaging tape, on reverse plasterboard joining SCRIM tape applied.
Wing panels for top and bottom are then cut from the sheets. We made the top wing panels slightly bigger to allow the curve and trimmed them later.

This is excellent work, Dee!  :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

This one will be a sooper-dooper performer!  :goodjob:

Tell me though - the red chequer pattern: what did you use? I would have thought monokote and it's clones would cause problems with the heat applied for bonding

Thanks Sanj..... You inspired this build BTW!

I had my eyes on your Spad Cap but when you said your Cap was written off...I was very disappointed...

Had to build one for myself ... I hope it flies nice after all that..

Last Friday, we added some decals on it and the wing now looks fantastic..

UK weather being mainly cloudy and dull I find adding hints of Fluorescent colours improves the visibility on planes.

This year summer has not arrived here so decided to add the fluorescent orange on the plane in case I have to fly in dull days ahead...

Kamal the wing ribs are out of Depron or Foam Board as you call it there...

We had to make templates as we went along by offering paper ribs in the wing and drew a rough shape on those ribs.

The wing ribs are in two separate pieces; front part and rear part, they are glued on..

Depron cuts like butter when you sand it with coarse sand paper so we just stuck oversized ribs and sanded the tops of them afterwords. Sanding block helped here...

Made one by Sticking Course Sand paper on a 4inch x 2inch wood block

Ah great work chief. Love the markings on the parts. Mark of a builder.

Hi Sanj,

Sorry I completely mis-understood this question; Regarding the heat shrink "RED CHECK PATTERN FILM";

This is from Emax.

Although not as good as Solarfilm, Solartex or monocote, it does stick on Coro board or on top of packaging tape on Depron.

I light sanded the Correx first to remove any silicon and then cleaned it with "Multi Purpose Wet Wipes"

On Depron, I did try on the last model D & A but the heat did a bit of damage at certain places so I have stopped applying it directly on Depron, instead use packaging tape first and then apply this heat shrink film.

With Depron or on packaging tape I did not have to light sand or use wet wipes, it went on quite nicely, creating bubbles quite often which had to be pricked open with a pin very frequently to let the trapped air escape.

Thank you Girish... Credit for that goes to my friend Allan Sanders a meticulous engineer who designs and manufactures parts for nuclear power stations when he is not playing here with these toys...

Mistake tolerence is 0..

Here are some more images...

The heat transfer film is bubbling despite me fine sanding the Coro surface and a thorough clean with wet wipes...

Hinges at ailerons are scrim tape .

Lets see how it flies this evening hopefully if weather and winds allow!!

Thanks Sanjay for inspiring.... Had you given me your Spad Cap, I would have never built this.. :) :)   :thumbsup::hatsoff:

Allan and I maidened it on Saturday evening and realised it was still tail heavy and the incidence on the wing is not correct either...

Crash resulted in just a broken prop....

Proud of our build....very strongly built I must admit.... Back to the drawing board, motor will be moved to the front and wing incidence corrected...

Will try again soon... Here is the video.

Great work Deepak sir and Allan, the spadcap is one great flier; Very stable when flying fast.

Thank you Laxman and Girish...

Will be extending the motormount so the motor is approx 3cms towards the front.

Hopefully that should do the trick rather than adding more noseweight....

b4ggu

Motor mount extended by 36mm (2 joined pcs of solid oak flooring 18mm thick  weighing 100 grams almost)still needed an extra 100 grams of Lead in the nose... Eventually flew quite well after trimming...

I realised the turtle deck and extra layer of Corro sheets to strengthen fuselage has costed me quite a lot of weight;

At 2.35Kgs its a heavy model.

However, it is a lesson learnt, next one will be light..  This however has turned out quite a fast flying machine totally opposite to the D & A we built last year...

Here is the video;

 :thumbsup: :thumbsup: Great Dee  {:)}

And you have discovered: Corro, she fly just like Balsa; only she bounce so much better  ;D ;)

Yes you got me into Corrogated board Sanj...

This is perfect for UK weather and very strong too the way the model bounced after falling out of the sky is a proof..

DEPRON & CORRO are a good combination I must admit.....

Just started work on Akromaster again inspired by you.... Will be cloning your model....lets see!!

This time I will make 2 wings one of Depron and One of Corro ...see which is lighter and flies better.

Wonder why the artf's are not coming in Corro...

Some one should tell Sharma Model Aero to start producing their Kaiser in Corro
