Title: EPP Foamie MINI V unbreakable type fun plane
Post by: b4ggu on March 24, 2010, 02:05:03 AM
Hi Guys, I have been having quite a lot of fun with this plane in our local park last year and would promise any of you building/ flying it will have loads of fun. We have even had dogfights with it at our flying site. If you ask Sai he can supply the kits or just foam, it is a cheap and cheerful foamie. Here are the comments from one of the forums with some images..
"I purchased a v-trainer some time ago now, and I have to say it is a beginners dream. The build was a doddle even for a complete novice. The instructions were very comprehensive and informative giving clear concise instructions with a picture back up for the complete numbty (like me). Tip- you can download the complete instructions from the flying wings website, this offers the pictures in full colour. Although, I have to confess I did get stuck on one particular section, but one swift e-mail soon sorted it out (excellent after sales). The finished plane was a light but a strong airframe that looks like it could take a lot of punishment. Though, I was somewhat apprehensive about the little motor. It didn't look big enough to me.
I have never tried rc flying before, so before I took to the sky I decided that I would invest in a flight simulator (phoenix) to a least get some basics right. After about one week of playing with the simulator with my 10-year-old son, the time had come for the v-trainers maiden flight.
The weather was fine with a slight breeze. I pointed the plane into the wind and up the power to full. With a firm chuck the plane leaped out of my hands and began to steadily climb. With a little left rudder and up elevator the plane slowly turned to the left. I WAS FLYING. In no time at all I was doing figure eights, loops and low slow fly passes. My worries about the motor size were just that 'worries'- plenty of power. It will fly quite happily on half power and still climb.
Time to give the controls to my son. To my amazement he was better than me. He is that good in fact, that for Christmas I have ordered the reflex flying wing for him. He is now hooked on flying. I am not complaining because I am too and we get quality time together.
As for the V-trainer- it has now had about 20 outings. There are a few chunks missing out of the bottom of the fuselage where the ground was frosty and hard. It has had a few nose heavy landings and wing cart wheels and survived without a scratch. However, just in case full spares are available. If you want to learn how to fly and want a cheap robust model then the v-trainer is the one for you. It is stable, very forgiving and allows plenty of time to correct mistakes and best of all it bounces.
The Mini V is a 65% scaled down version of V-Trainer.
At 27 inches (690mm) wingspan its perfect for the back of the car for the crafty flight at lunchtime or for the suitcase for your holidays.
The tiny brushless outrunner provides plenty of power for outdoors and indoors in a larger sports hall.
Its very very stable and would make an ideal mini trainer, its also incredibly tough.

If you email and call Bob or Richard Flying Wings on ; 0044 1908 615 163, they will sort you out.
http://www.flyingwings.co.uk/ They have sent sheets of EPP to Ramesh Tahlan in New Delhi by courier and I dont see why they wont be able to send to you. Email; Tell them Deepak from Leicester gave you their details....
Can you get in touch with member "samlikespad"..., he lives and flies RC in KSA (at least some part of the year). He should be able to give you pointers on how to order RC stuff into KSA.
Send him a PM : http://www.rcindia.org/profile/?u=3464

Hi Anwar,
Just to add ,here in KSA one needs to have a license from Saudi Aviation club, that membership will cost you 600 Riyals a year.Once a flyer has that its kind of very safe to fly in saudi. One will never ever have issues with importing stuff also.If parcel gets stuck, just send the officer the License and Iqama and thats it. ;D
System in saudi as long as Rc is concerned ,its very systematic and hassle free.I am flying my Trex 550 and also had a Outrage 90 and i fly in the city of Dammam

Wow. 600 riyals is steep ! We pay 200 yearly here in Qatar. It was only 100 until last year.
In any case, it is good that there is a venue to be "official". Lack of the such official confirmation is pretty disconcerting in the Indian context :(

Hi Flyers........ I would like to share this latest addition to my fleet scratch built in not very long time .. FLITE TEST DELTA with removable POWER POD; Just to expand..I did not use Dollar Foam / or foam board. I had some charcoal DEPRON 3mm sheets lying around so I covered one side with packaging tape, turned it over, stuck "SCRIM TAPE" (plaster board joining self adhesive glass-fibre mesh tape) sprayed the side with CARPET ADHESIVE and pasted another sheet over it. So the overall thickness is about 7 to 8mm. As the packaging tape held the Depron together, it folded over without ripping after removing 1 cms gully from the bottom sheet and baring the glass-fibre mesh on the underside.

Found a calculator program (link below) and assuming the shape is a (FT DELTA 30% bigger)delta with 78 span, centreline chord 46 and tip chord 0, this puts the cg about 210 back from the front tip. Allowing for the fact that we don't quite go to a tip, that puts the cg about 180 back from the motor mount ie about 39% of the centre line chord back from the motor mount. http://fwcg.3dzone.dk/ Looks like my C &G should be approx 12 .5 to 12.8cm from motor mount ; 30% of 33// or ; Wing span 60 Root; 35.5 (- 3) tip cord; 4.5 Sweep; 30 So C and G; 12.2 from motor-mount And on 30% bigger Delta; Wing span 78 Root Cord ;46 Tip cord ;5.2 Sweep; 40.8 So C and G; 17.7 from motormount or 21.2 from tip which is not there in this case. Had to modify a bit as the motor was not powerful enough to carry 450 grams (350 model +battery100gms) EMAX 2822 now installed .... reasonable flight now... Could do with a bit more OOOmph!!! ..I like my models overpowered than underpowered

Sorry Guys... This Delta has so far been a disappointment... Too sensitive and a horrid flyer.. broken 2 props already.. Just cannot get it to fly right. Will be replacing the motor with a more powerful one, cutting the ELEVONS smaller.
I think MAKO 3D Delta is much better fun and will be building that soon.. Check it out here;
Mike Pembertons 'MAKO' 3D DELTA (DEPRON) MODEL AIRCRAFT - Also on You Tube by Flying Marcus1; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWRLuXrJV9w#ws (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWRLuXrJV9w#ws)
'MAKO' DELTA – 26.5" (673mm) Wingspan x 26" (660mm) Overall Length - Electric Power.
This small electric delta type model uses 'elevon' control, i.e. it requires mixing of elevator and aileron channels to provide pitch and roll control, it also uses a separate rudder channel to control yaw.
Finally it uses a motor channel to control speed of electric motor. Hence, a minimum RC system of 4 channels is required!
It is a very simple model to build and capable of virtually any aerobatic manoeuvre, including, 3D stunts, prop hanging, etc. (But are your piloting skills good enough???)
1) Construction Matl: Depron: 6mm thick, (Use 3mm thk for trim, as required).
2) Adhesive: For Depron: Use UHU por, (polystyrene glue) or Epoxy Resin.
3) Motor Mount: Plywood: 55mm dia x 4mm thk min, (I Used: 6mm thk).
4) Wing Spar: Aluminium Channel: 6mm x 6mm x 1mm thk x 600mm lg.
11) Centre of Gravity: C of G position - Measure from rear face of motor mount! (Use: 6.7/8" (175mm), move further back , (i.e. increase this distance) if you desire extreme aerobatics, prop hanging, etc).
