Hello friends,
I had a fish packing box(only lid) lying around which i left for a hellcat.
I just dropped the idea , and building a low winger.I was inspired by "virus ultralight", but this is going to be a low winger instead.
It may resemble a Piper Warrior or Piper Chirokee..
Count me in anwar bhai, if i manage to complete the bird within the sweeptakes deadline.
last image is for date conformation for sweeptakes
Sorry i did not mention.
The wing span is 800mm
Chord 120mm
Fuse 650mm
It was the progress so far...
The wing has been sanded to be smooth. Tried to make it an airfoil, but i am not concerned anymore. Im sure airfoil are not affective at such a small scale and speed.
Also notice the speed post-envelope patches used as hinges. The post envelope has a thread mesh at one side which may give an extra strength to the hings.
One more thing to add: This time i am confident enough to fly and land this bird in single piece. ;D Hope simulator practice pays...
Finally the plane was compleated and had a flight.
The wing tips were bent to make polyhedral since the glide test was not satisfactory.
AUW was 250 gms.
The flight may seem a bit underpowered since the thrust was only 130 gms.I Would be soon upgrading to powerful motor.
The motor used is blue wonder 16gram.I had to use this motor since this was the only option left to complete the plane in deadline.
The deadline was extended by a month
Awesome build bro! :D I love it.
I suggest you to use an autopilot system with GPS in future. namely Ardupilot 2.5. :D
thank devil.. ;D ;D..
atleast someone replied.. i was a bit disappointed due to recent shortage of enthusiasm (a.k.a. replies) here on the forum......it feels kinda boring with people just sitting and watching the tread going without actively participating in the drill.. >:( >:(
the video follows here

Finally painted it.
The motor has been updated to rewinded Emax 2205, producing 310gms of thrust @open throttle.
Removed polyhedral further to make it dihedral again. I am sure i dont need polyhedral anymore.
Repainting was done to get it some further makeup.
I wonder why people have become so non responsive on this forum, :headscratch:...... if it wasen't for the sweepstakes, scratchbuilding became scarce in here......people either stay as a silent spectator or come up with a sales thread,....no active participation in the forum. This just steals the very essence of sharing your work on a public forum
and BTW Abhay, you have a really nice plane there,....great paint job
thanks bilal, you will get to see it live within a day..
Regarding responsiveness, even i am frustated :-\

As I have said before - it is all about (If I am allowed to be BLUNT) GREED (You may choose to sugar coat that and call it Competitive Spirit) -
ONLY I should Win the sweepstakes. That and our inherent selfish nature. Ever since the sweepstakes were announced, two kinds of people have emerged on the forum (there is also a third, a benevolent minority but we aren't talking about them here) :
1.
I'm building something and that's all I am bothered about - the rest of the world be damned. I will log in and post my pictures and have my say and log out.
2. Either 'Neither am I a builder, nor am I flyer' OR 'I am just not interested enough' to encourage others. I will just log in and zip through all the posts that are of interest and then log out. Participation be damned. I'm not going to win anything, anyway.
Unfortunately, I myself have been displaying both these traits.
The good old days, when we posted at random and encouraged each other seems to be dormant now and our esprit de corps has gone into hibernation. It is almost April, time we woke up.
Good morning Lads!
A few enthu people like me make their life more miserable by opting to change job :banghead: and re-settle forgetting everything about the hobby ......
:(
I miss making scratch built & going to field with my friend Arvind all i can do now is just log on now and then and see what friend are doing.... :banghead:
abhay - you've done nice paint job......
Best wishes on the maiden.
have you done the glide test?
Put battery on, measure CG, use small marker, find some long grass, don't connect battery, and hand launch to see if it's tail or nose heavy.
thanks, theleabres. planning a maiden tomorrow. Just adding an undercarriage.
I already had a glide test. and the CG has been marked on wings.
undercarriage pics please
Bautiful plane abhay !
How u painted this beauty ?
pics with undercarriage..
finally we flew this beauty past evening. It rolled over and took off. It flew nicely and pretty fast. Thanks bilal for Roll over suggestion :hatsoff:
I didn't considered the weight of new motor, so it was a bit nose heavy, and we had hard landing(nose dragging). No damages to the plane.Front motor's bearing damaded.
We made the video, but things are not clear due to low lighting. The plane disappers after takeoff in the video.
If video is required for sweeptakes, ill upload what i have.
Nice build would love to see a flight video whatever that may be. We are all amateurs in videography. In Shillong videos are mostly in poor light conditions :giggle:
Hi Abhay,
the plane is certainly better now with a dihederal ..
nice video too,
which tyres are these..
one more thing Abhay,
it is a great idea to take the snaps of the model with a newspaper to get a hang of the proportion and scale.. I really appreciate the concept and your work is nice.
thanks for posting the sequence as a build-log.
I remember long time ago I started with a thermocol model but didn't complete it due to lack of a proper adhesive available to join the parts together..
would like to know about the glue you have used for this model,
thanks!
news paper is not for proportion... its for sweepstakes entry !!!!
@swizera, painting is done by no. 10 artistic brush using "berger luxol". I got a 50ml can for :Rs: 22. ;D ;D Still 3-4th of both the can is remaining.
No paint scheme was predecided. I did whatever i remembered from different planes.
@sundaram sir, ill surely put up the video.
@mks, i used fevicol SH for joining the thermocol parts. For covering the model with paper, water:fevicol was mixed in 1:2 proportion.
Remember, while joining two pieces of thermocol, add a tissue paper in between(thanks kalyan da :hatsoff: :hatsoff: for technique).
