Hey All,
The Rainy Season Stuck me again, Have not done even single flight in last 15 days, So decided to start a new scratch build again..
I am currently working on the Katana 70 3D. I really like it ;D
So here i go again..
T@nm@y..
Wing Build.. 8-)
more..
Superb {:)} {:)}
BTW where do you get your balsa and the plans?
70 3D!!! I would also like to know from where you got the plans and kit (:|~
sanjayrai55, samlikespad :- Hi, This is not a Store Bought kit or like that, This is going to be a totally scratch build airplane, ol Parts are hand cutted (No Laser cut), Here are the plans..
Sum Progress,
Wow! thats cool man :salute: Thanks for the plans and wish you all the best with the build.
Edit: Forgot to ask you this, how did you make that wing joint pipe? Wonder how you managed the exact size ??? What material you used?
where did you source the balsa from??pls suggest
sagi
samlikespad:- Thanks Buddy, I m using Simple PVC Pipe for that..
Sagi- Try Spherehobbies..
Really nice :)
Sheeting..
Leading Edge, Wing Bolt.. DONE!
Time to install Cap stripes..
Almost same dimensions when compared with other 70 sized wing (MXS-R 70 3D)..
Kalpesh- Its an ARF (MXS-R 3D), Jst comparing the size with mine scratch built wing..
woah! beautiful!

Finally, Both Wings Completed, Took 5 whole Nights.. to get this finish..
Time to start Fuselage..
very nice umayash [sorry] Tanmay
rcpilotacro:- Thank You Sir..
Started Working to Fuselage.. ;)
Some Progress:-
is that 2mm ply ???
Yeh, Exactly..
I'm going to ask the question everyone's puzzling over - how did you transfer
the parts onto the balsa sheet ??
@saikat:- Good Question, Seems Very Experienced Aeromodeller,
Make a copy on a copy machine. Place the copy over the balsa and use a
hot iron. The image will transfer to the balsa. I have NOT had good luck
trying this with a computer printer. A regular copier works pretty well.
Progress.. (All Hand Cut) :)
..
Shaping up beautifully! Good show Tanmay  :headscratch:
Sanjay Sir:- Thank You So much..

I'm going to ask the question everyone's puzzling over - how did you transfer
the parts onto the balsa sheet ??
you can transfer the printed matter by applying paint thinner with a piece of cotton. taking printouts on trace paper makes thing easier.
@Sundaram Sir :- Thank You, Using Jig Saw for cutting Ply and Knife for Balsa..
@Sb_Maharana:- The way I do is much easier then this, But yes, Prints are much better when using trace Paper and thinner..
Get Lostt.. Please Let me do my work.. >:(
Sum More progress..
..
Some More progress:-
.....
My God! This is FANTASTIC!!!
By the way - what is the name of your Plan Inspector at reply # 34? Adorable!!!
Thank You Sir, He is Plan Inspector Mr. Audi... :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:
Give him my love. I like his sense of fashion. Old fashioned yet classic!
Ha Ha Ha.. Sure Sir..
Some more progress (I Know its very slow).. >:(
..
What are those white cross bars (plastic? cylindrical?) in pic 113?
sanjayrai55:- Its a Simple PVC pipe For wing joiner tube..
OK!!!
Some More updates:- ;)
I Think she has started taking her real shape now, Also Comparing fuse with MXS-R 70 3D..
Which is Better? Green one or my scratch build??
This is coming out to be a real beauty. Build is ARF quality. {:)} {:)}
Thank You very much Sir..
Suggestions Awaited ..
Also Planning to go with electric Setup, Mods Kindly Shift it to "Electric Planes"..
I don't much like 3D planes, but this build has "Master Class" stamped all over it"! (:|~ {:)} {:)} {:)}
As per the plans, this needs a 1.20 + Glow Engine. Which Electric set-up are you planning?
Hats off for this build..
Definitely your built one looks Better than the green ARF..
Hope to see that in the air prety soon..

Your built is the clean and best as your flying skill.... {:)} {:)} {:)}: inspiring to scratch build.. great finish..
As I have privilege to see your build, patience, skill, working, process personally, so I can say, you are the master of scratch build. :hatsoff: :salute: :salute: :salute:
@Mjet:- Thanks a ton for the kind words dada, But have not shown any type of patience here in this build..
Good to see some balsa and ply bashing. Nicely built, And I am impressed by your cutting skills. Mind posting a picture of the saw setup you have for ply cutting?
PS: Moved to electric planes board.
Some CRAZY build!!!! :hatsoff:
Amazing precision!
Will follow this thread till maiden! :salute:
@FlyJoe- Thank You..

hi umyash great build.. i built mine lastyear .. have a look at mine..
katana
katana
@Shadman:- Great Build there bro.. {:)} {:)} {:)}
here is how it flys..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTbfHKqIjNI

yours too is a superb build.. get it up in air soon.. :)
there is another one coming very soon.. it called the extra 300 exp .. almost built :P
@shadman:-Thanks but Not better than yours..
dont worry .. planes looks dont matter in air.. see how it flys.. my katana turned out really tail heavy.. i had to add additional motor mount box to balance the cg.. make sure u are estimating everything now itself.. it should be great .. try a 6s setup .. instead of 5s .. hardly any difference in cost ..
this was the setup of a friends Sebart katana 60"
motor-hacker- really low kv (dont remember the exact figure ..around 300-400kv)
battery- 6s 3000mah 25c
esc-60amp turnigy plush
prop-16x10
i was getting around 7-8 mins of flight time... thats more than satisfying i guess..
power was insane .. never required more than half throttle .. except to come out of hover..
Superb, Shadman. Tanmay, I just can't wait to see yours in the air too!
Some More updates:-
Fin attached to the fuselage..
Rudder (Modified)..
Finally.. After 2 Long nights and lots of methods, Here is 1 ROUGH Canopy made using Plastic Jar (PETG Jar), Foam Plug, and 1 heat gun, I know it is not that much of clean :banghead:, But Today Will try making another Canopy with some serious efforts.. ;D
Some more:-
Also Will start covering it soon, Please suggest some different color schemes..
Looks like it could take off without any covering :D
LOL
Here is a very different and original colour scheme
(http://rc-castle.com/shop/images/KANATAEP.jpg)
But Very Typical to do..
magnificent build Tanmay {:)} :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

Some More..
Nice Cowl. Beautiful colour scheme.
Thank You Very much sir..
Rudder..
Some Decals added..
Adding this to my list of todo..... great effort man!!!
Bee-yoo-tee-ful!! :salute:
Question....
Would it be better if the rudder was first covered (to the intersection point) and then glued, or it needs to be covered after it has been glued? Since I have very little knowledge on monokote type of covering, just asking the question.
very beautiful.. (:|~
Pankaj- It is better to cover all the control surfaces and then glued, otherwise you will not be able to cover it from the intersection edges..
@Sanjay Sir, Mjet- Thaa-ank-youu So much..
#reply 112,
The question was prompted by the fact that your vertical fin appeared to have been glued to the fuse before covering. So as per your comment, that image is just at a dry fit stage?
Tail..
You sure work late into the night ;)
How did you make the 'Katana' lettering?
Just look at that beautiful black stab bottom.
Note clean monokote line at the centre of the leading edge.
Wow. Great job!
@Sanjay Sir- Ya most of the time i use to work late into the night,
Contact some Number plate guy, You give them Coral Draw file and they would 'Cut' the sticker, they are having a Vinyl Cutter Plotter for this..
@KK Iyer Sir- Thank you very much sir..
Aluminium Undercarriage..

Custom made fiberglass wheel Pants..
Wing (left), Wing(R) pending for Tomorrow..
more..
That's a superfine build tanmay
Amazing build Uma... Infact one of THE Best builds I have seen in the forum in a while.
I liked your Canopy mould and the resulting Pet canopy. Would you mind making 2-3 of these or us ?? Even I have the same Katana (kit cut with Shadman) almost ready for as ARF and a Canopy like yours would make it 'ARF-Like' ...
All the best for maiden.

Custom made fiberglass wheel Pants..
could you amply as to how you went about it ?
For the wing, you mentioned, strengthening guide as 'PVC' pipe and when you are joining the wings, there is a CF tube, passing through. Would you mind giving the dia of the pipes - both PVC and CF?
@girishsarwal:- Thank You so much..
@ujjwaana:- Making these out of PET jar is very simple, You can also make it by yourself, Check this out:-

awsomeeeeeeeeeee {:)} {:)} {:)} {:)} {:)} {:)}
@madaquif:- Thanks..
Hi Umayash.. fantastic build .. what is the dry weight of the airframe? and what is final weight you are targeting with that setup?
Hi Shadman, How You Doing Brother?
Dry Weight of the Airframe is About 1250 Grams, I am expecting AUW 2300-2350 Grams with the above Setup, Also the exact Wing Span is 59"..
Wow.. very clean must say.. I m setting up a similar plane too. I had a Sbach 70 60" wingspan and the bird lost its one wing on a dead stick landing.. I have built a new pair wings.
Powering up with 5 cell.. same configuration as yours..
interestingly its worth a look.. its almost 50% ailerons at the root.. ;D ;D ;D
Rolling maneuvers are going to be insane "desi style"..
Wow.. Best of Luck Brother..
Elevator Servo Assembly.. :)
