Dear Forum members,

I am looking for some guidance on landing gear for Shikra glider.  :help: :help: I am not very comfortable about landing it on its belly and may damage it in the very first landing. Kindly advise.....

check ^^^^ topic too,

aviator

shikra land very slowly...u can catch it by hand too if u r not a beginner and have some experience of flying.....and yes u can try it on grass area and stick some fibre tape...it will help u prevent damage to the belly...
U cn order landing gears from HK too , similar to those used for UAV/FPV or try making them at home...on second thought, they may alter the sweet aerodynamics of the glider... thats wat preventing me too from addition of landing gear...
Hav bn thinking lately abt adding retractable landing gear bt they vl mess it up by addition of wires n servos...
Take a call n lemme knw if u find sumthing even more useful...

Dear aviator,

The only flying experience I have is on FMS and of course when I fly from place to place. ;D. But I dont think the later would help in landing. Even on FMS I am not able to land the plane where I want. So, I think I would need a few shikras to master the art of catching it with hands. :o :o.

Mr. Sai, do you copy that??

EDIT: Dear SideWinder, Please let me know how it works.

Dear Vishwas,

Please use a carbon fiber strip 1x3mm/ rod 2mm along the complete length of the fuse with CA and tape the under belly using fiber tape. Further you can use wing skids under the wing at the end of the wing flat before the polyhedral.  That's about all you need in a shikra.

In-spite of the innumerable landings rough and soft nothing happens to the belly only minor scratch on the belly tape. After some time you can change the fiber when you feel necessary.

Using a landing gear will spoil the gliding property of shikra.
