The hatch is retained with a 'ice lollie stick' design and velcro pads in a few postions, and the battery can be moved around to help in getting the balance correct ( C of G ) the positions shown on fuselage side. Once your happy with the position I can then put packing pieces in and lock and secure the batteries position. Can't wait to decorate and get it flying. Better get back to the water and land plane I'm doing.

The person responsible for the original design is on this blog in Europe see the link here below;

It happens he's been in touch with me today and I think he fly's and is a member at B4ggu's model club in the midlands in UK.

like i said earlier building tech are similar.....Going on too good.... waiting for maiden.

Wibberley

Ice lollie stick - rastsaurabh -  {:)} its simple and it works, is that plane model your holding your own design? It looks good.

 Yes, you can say scratch built out of foam. Sipkill aerofoil, 2500Kv motor, 10 Amp esc, 35inch WS,850Mah 3S battery

enough power to for a decent flight..... my builts are guided more that the size of foam available rather than the design  ;D

See the flight video   http://www.rcindia.org/rc-locations-and-clubs/rc-bolt/msg165297/#msg165297

Got to go to work now I'll watch your video later  :thumbsup:

Wow Mark you are amazing. I got up to find you have made the EPP version of Mako already

Please do let me know how it flies?  If you need to borrow a power set for this use my Multiplex deltas parts.

I have some 8 to 10 grams servos if you want to borrow too.

How much do you think the kit will fetch in swap meets if it was to be offered ?

Thanks B4ggu for your comments and help sourcing the info for 'mako' - from your email and enclosed drawings 11.30am to bare foam finish 9.30pm - 10 hours less a few breaks ( and talking to you on the phone a couple of times etc, etc;).... net time about 9 hrs.  :salute: :salute: :salute:

Don't know about the price, would you like a couple of 'free kits' delivered ready for Alan and yourself for your Fridays building session at your place 14th of Feb?

Remember I have to delivery also that new hot glue gun I got for you.

Cheers Wibberley

I'll get on with B4ggu aerobatic or you.  :hatsoff:

Hi Mark,

Yes we would love some freebees....
Yes I am sure Allan would love one too...
With mine, I will cover or paint it at bottom to see better agains dull clouds background which is predominant in Leicester.

I better order and have delivered below list of items from Hobby King for this then...

Orange Rx to fit my Spectrim DX8i
150 watt motor or 180 watt preferred preferred by me ;  http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=45152

3 x10 gram servos ; http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=38024

20 Amp ESC ;

1250 mah 3 cell Lipos 20c (90mm x 35 x 18mm) approx (116 grams) from Hobby King @ USD5.56
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=7343

or 1550 mah 3 cell Lipo 129 grams 20c (91x 34mm x 20mm) @ USD $8.14
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=7311

APC E Prop 7 x 4 E

You said on phone the all up weight is 450 Grams or 16 oz with above equipment; By the time I have painted it, it will be 500 grams...

You further mentioned, as I like my models slow and steady..for slow flying 8 x 4 is better..

Is that correct ???

Wibberley

Yes I would say so, at all weight of 1.1 lbs = 500 grams and 180 max on tap, at 1/2 throttle it will still be a good powered sports plane.

Thanks Mark...yes will do once you have put it on a plane.

b4ggu

Thanks Mark for the two bags of bits.
"BLACK EPP MAKO KITS" started... images attached of progress so far....
Second installment next week ......

b4ggu

Mark suggested in his instructions to join wing halves after joining fuselage, we started by aligning all mating parts, sticking masking tape at back, folding in half as image Step1 and applying contact adhesive (UHU in this case) leaving for 5 minutes and then just folding back to join. Masking tapes left as is to be removed next week with some weights on a flat surface....

Wibberley

Alan and Deepak enjoy you build.  Hows the depron cuts going.

Rastsaurabh - seen your video of the small wing flys well and high for such a small one. You fly at a nice open site, what time of year was it filmed/video?

Second week of build;
BTW we only have spent one evening ..approx 3 to 4 hours so far.
Allan and I meet on Friday evenings when we mess and tinker about with our toys.. D and A foamy is now on hold while we attempt building EPP MAKO..
So actually its 2nd day of build;
Removed all masking tape..
One suggestion here, the components should be given a slight sanding front and back to remove the burnt flakes and strands left by hot wire cutting..

b4ggu

More progress;  Notes to follow soon..

"BREAK TIME" Time for a cup of tea and a snack...... any takers!!!

b4ggu

Thanks Mark... 3rd Week of build;
We decided to make the battery hatch a bit extra strong by lining it with veneer plywood and than sticking the EPP sides back later...

Covered top and bottom with packaging tape, I must say as this is BLACK EPP, covering it in high visible colours is a must as compared to white EPP which can be left as is.
Can you imagine flying it without any covering on a cloudy day ...

b4ggu

Decided to use just 2 hinges on each surface...

The choice was either lightweight depron hinges;Light Weight Pivot Hinges for Depron/EPP 10-pack
[416067]
"These frictionless nylon hinges are an ideal alternative to hinge tape especially where tape will not stick to EPP. To install, simply cut a slot with a sharp scalpel blade in the surface of the foam and glue in place with CA.Specification: Dimensions: 28mm x 9mm Weight: 0.2g"

or

Hinges - Pinned Nylon (8pcs 28 x 15mm) (5509620)...
DECIDED TO GO WITH THESE ;

To make the 10 mm thick epp foam for this plane I have to slice the material from a 30 mm width sheet. In the past I have stood over the hot wire bow whilst I pulled through by hand to make the slices, this does take time with each cut / slice taking about 8 mins.

Solution needed to free up time so I can do something else with these 8 mins, so I made a extension to the table where the bow is attached to, this allows me to slice the foam now and walk away from it....like a 'auto epp foam slicer'.

Its made from corner brackets with screws in acting like a claw, metal weights, glass plate, here's some pictures to see what it looks like.
