Hello! i am building a micro aeronca champion out of depron for this year's sweepstakes! ;D
Specification going to be.
11 inch wingspan
micro pager 4mm with gearbox
70mah 1 cell lipo
Hk microsystem receiver(0.65g)
magnetic actuator for control surfaces.
Starting the build now! :thumbsup:
Plans printed out and of course,the newspaper ;D
Progress
More.Total fuselage weight less than 1 gram!
Building the fuselage. Sanded the foam to 1mm. Glued the parts using rubber foam safe adhesive.
Very nice , looking forward for the flight .
@rcjabalpur,Thanks ;D. Will maiden it as soon as I complete it. :)
Adding strength to fuselage. Small depron pieces are inserted inside the fuselage to add some strength.
Very nice.. awaiting flight
{:)} :thumbsup:
Thanks Darshan :thumbsup:
Details.
Cut the wing from 3mm depron and sand it to 1mm. Bend it to make aerofoil shape or even the flat wing works. Bend the centre line to make V shape. This makes it fly much slower and stable. I added a small piece of metal wire to hold the V shape.
Total weight without electronics is just 1.5grams!
{:)} {:)} {:)} Most auspicious start to the sweepstakes ;)
Looking forward to the video. I'm sure it will fly fantastic :thumbsup:
Wow!!!! It's a beauty for sure.
@Sanjay sir, thankyou. Will upload a video for sure. :thumbsup:
@rcnitesh, thankyou. ;)

Well done. {:)}
The Nine Eagles Cessna, 20" wingspan weighs 95gms
So you have made a dramatic improvement!
Roman, where are you
@Iyer sir, yes, these days I am working a lot on micros. ;)
Building my own gearbox!
4mm 7ohm motor
Tiny piece of balsa
Plastic tube
Pinion with micro gear
Gearbox weight 0.90gram!
Estimating the total weight of the plane.
Fuse with wing 1.5grams
Gearbox with prop 1.10grams
Rx 0.65grams
Battery 3grams
Actuator 0.20gram
Misc 0.30grams
Total weight= 6.75g :o
Built the mount using balsa 0.75mm.
Landing gear and rx. Gear made from 1mm metal rod attached on a small piece of balsa.
Rx and lipo. Lipo is 1cell 70mah. ;D
Module to control rx.
super sweet, would be fun to fly. sub'd
Made my own prop with balsa! Comparison with plastic one. Much less weight!
Weight comparison.
Prop mounted on gear.
very nice sir
So what is the final all up weight?
Amazed at the low wt you are achieving!
May need the plastic prop for efficiency though.
I have a hard time getting a 12" chuck glider to be under 10gms...
Best wishes.
Wow Nice build. Keenly following it {:)} {:)}
Thanks Antriksh :)
@Iyer sir, till now 5.5g may be a little over 6g with glue ;)
Efficiency may not be a problem as the plastic prop may be heavier for 4mm gearbox.I just tested with balsa prop its giving nice thrust.
Thanks again ;D
Thank you Sundaram sir :)
Making my own actuator ;D. I used Micro neodymium magnet, copper wire to make it.
Added wheels too. :D
{:)} {:)} awaiting for flight eagerly (:|~
Actuator added on tail of plane.
How does the actuator work?
Hello sanjay sir, there is a coil which acts like electromagnet in which there is a small magnet. It works on attraction and repulsion. :)
I meant what does it do? Will it control the rudder from your Tx through the Rx?
Yes it controls the rudder through TX.Just same as servo. Control on rudder stick.
:thumbsup: :thumbsup:
Will it be proportional movement like servo or just flick.
and is it direct connection to RX ?
@rastsaurabh
The actuator is fully proportional just like servo moving each points. It flicks only when directly connected to power source.It is so proportional because of rx output. ;)
Yes, it is directly connected to rx which is capable of driving the actuator directly. The normal rx requires a converter to hook up an actuator. :)
Almost completed. Used a larger gear and prop.Now its giving much better thrust compared to the previous one.:-D
Making the battery hatch. 1mm balsa.
Hatch completed.Mounting left. ;D
Completed. :thumbsup:
Great work , what's the final AUW , and a close up photograph of the rudder actuator would be appreciated.
Regards
Here is the final auw.
And close up of the actuator.
I may get a video of it by tomorrow evening :D
Excellent job ... Thanks
:thanks:
@kiran rc
I think many of us are waiting to see closeups of your actuators ;D
Posted already. Please see #49 reply. :) If everyone needs more closer look I think I need to create a build log for that thing too. ;)
Great achievement Kiran. So light weight, i can never think also.
Get a video soon kiran , awesome job .
It was too windy and rainy yesterday :( Will post the video by next sunday.
I changed the prop from 3" inch to 4" gws prop. It climbing rate it quite good. Managed to get a video today. :thumbsup: Not enough space indoors. The wind was so strong that it would have carried the plane along with it. It was around 16-20km/h. :-\ I may soon get an outdoor video once the weather turns good and wind speed is low. ;D

Don't worry about outdoor flight Kiran. For Micro Indoor flight is very much a qualifying flight. Rarely you will be able to fly an under powered micro outside.
Beautiful model and great flight. All the very best. {:)} {:)} :thumbsup:

That's true! It cant be flown in winds.Its just 8 grams. ;)
Wow.. really nice plane! :thumbsup: But did you slam it to the ground at the end of the flight?

:thanks:
A little hard landing as I have no practice on 2channel planes. ;) To pitch up and down the throttle acts as elevator. But in a 3 channel plane, pitch can be corrected(while landing) on elevator stick. The model is very durable too, doesn't get damaged due to it light weight. ;D
Nice plane and flight.
Thanks nitesh :)
@kiran rc,
Looks like this the first proof of flight video of 2015 Sweepstakes.
Good job, well done {:)}
(Since you do not have elevator, try adding a tiny pinch of weight on the tail, to remove that nose down tendency on reducing power)
Thanks. Yes I will add a little weight at the tail.
Flew again yesterday. ;D Some 2channel aerobatic and loops! ;)

Superb.
Very good {:)} {:)} {:)}
:thanks: Sanjay sir.
@kiran rc,
I feel so proud of your achievement.
A matter of pride for all of us! {:)} {:)} {:)}

Roman, where are you
how did i skip this thread :banghead:
im around sir took a brake for a bit.....kiran superb build if you dont mind whats you age....? The spot you are flying is is great for indoor wish i had one? You have some great skills kiran...please add your build thread here so all can refer.. http://www.rcindia.org/electric-planes/successfully-flown-micro-airplane-thread-only/
Roman I am just 14. ;) I have added the link to your thread.

:thanks: wish to improve on it more. :)
Kiran you are doin great at this age :hatsoff: :hatsoff:and that too with micro :bow:
. all the best buddy lots of seniors here to help just shoot your question in a pm if you need help. I started this hobby in 2012 learnt a lot here in 3years. Most important ask before you buy anything :giggle: :giggle:
Thanks! I have been into this hobby for around 4 years now with the help and great support here at rcindia. :hatsoff: :bow:
Are you still having the plans ? Can you please email them to me.
And can you please some more info about the coreless motor you used....!
