My 2nd model out of high density thermocol. Same as the skysurfer model.
Specification
24inch wing span
2cell 350 mah lipo
Rcx 2400 kv brushless
2.5-5g servo (2)

kiran rc

Started the build. Cut fuselage out of 1inch thermocol. :)

kiran rc

Joined both the sides of the fuselage with some white glue and carved out the edges :)

kiran rc

Right wing made out of 1inch thermocol and sanded.

Great work ...

kiran rc

Covering with tissue and 1:1glue and water. ;D

kiran rc

Took a little long to dry. Sanded after covering.

kiran rc

Fixed 3.7g servo using foam and hot glue. The push rod is passed through a plastic tube

kiran rc

Motor with mount. Will be using a 15amp esc with 5x3 prop ;D

kiran rc

Mounted the 15amp esc. :)

rastsaurabh

Very good going Kiran....

Before you mount motor have toothpicks on both side of ESC & ensure you stick the mount with those toothpick heads in Mount... this will give some strength to the mount.

I made a bigger version some years back .....

Thanks.Saw yours long back. :goodjob:
Already mounted the motor. Will give it carbon or wood reinforcement

Motor mounted.

rastsaurabh

how are you planning to put wings??

cant make out from pic but Motor thrust angle seems too high... will be clear once you put wings.

rcpilotacro

+1. Down angle is too much, she will slam the ground
Gusty's Hangar and Introduction.

A Good pilot will practice until he gets it right,
A Great pilot will practice until he can't get it wrong.

@kiran rc,
Been following this build, but refrained from commenting so far, as it looked so rough that i told ashok baijal yesterday that this can't be the same guy who built that beautiful micro Champ!
It looks far better now that you have sanded it...
Suggestion: make 2-3 motor mounts with different amounts of downthrust. Attach with rubber bands to toothpicks pushed through the pylon/cowl. You may be surprised that zero may be the best angle...

Below is a comment actually related to your build, and not an attempt to hijack your thread. A response from Gusty will be of immense use to you (and to me  ;D)

@rcpilotacro
Never seen a full size power pod with the kind of downthrust the Skysurfer has.
Is it so that the thrust line can pass through, or be close to the CG?
Or the centre of drag?
Is it a safety device for newbies?
Basically why this massive downthrust on power above and behind the wing?
Indore, like many other places, awaits your RC pilgrimage...

kiran rc

@KK Iyer, perhaps you are right. I spent a little time on the angle and found that its a little to much. I might replace the motor too. Cause it only gives about 100g of thrust with a 2 cell. Planned to extend the mount keep the angle. The problem is all about propeller. I cant use a smaller prop less than 5".A4.75" prop will drastically reduce the thrust. :(

The champ is my favourite as I spent quite a lot of time working on it. This is my first thermocol build. This thermocol is not rigid and very tough to sand. Very bad experience with thermocol.  This material is no match to depron. I have build more than several models with depron and this is my first one with thermocol. Will never use thermocol. Now the advantage of this material can only be known after the first flight.

kiran rc

Angle of thrust. Rough comparison against original.

kiran rc

Painted it yellow. ;)

kiran rc

Canopy and painting finished.

What's that gap in the middle of the rear fuselage?

I haven't glued both the sides. Just kept them together for taking pic.

kiran rc

@ KK Iyer sir, the angle of mounting is fine right? ???

rastsaurabh

you are using 2S battery?

go for a smaller prop 4x4
