Recently i finished my project, 30" wingspan Yak - 54. it has flat wings!!!

i got plan from RCGroups, designed by Gene Bond, just need to take print out on A4 paper, stick them together and cut it in biofoam, thats all, very easy. if you want i can upload these plans. i have also made small brother of 25" wing span, it is also great Yak!!!! flew very well

Two weeks back, since afraid to take-of, i requested senior member Sandeep on the field to make a maiden flight. it flew well, though the power is enough for me to learn, it is sufficient for mild 3D. i am still learning so this power is more than enough for me!!!!

last weekend, after gathering much courage and with the help of Subbu and Gaurav, i finally made successful flight myself.
it is great experience and complete satisfaction of self-made plane!!! can easily fly in mild windy condition.

Dont know when will i crash it!!!!

specs are as below:
Motor: Emax 2812, ESC: 18A Turngy, battery: 800mah 3s1p lipo, 9 gm HXT serovs - 4, home made landing gear
i think for perfect 3D Emax 2822 motor will be more than enough.

Vertical fuselage - 10 mm biofoam, rest everything in 6 mm. 5 mm hollow CF rod for wing reinforcement.
building cost might be around 2k-3k, without Tx and Rx

used 5 min fast Ardelite, and foam safe glue (rubber based) and foam safe super glue from hobbyking.

Used 2 servos for Aileron and configure them in Flaperon mode, so that take-landing should be smooth and short!!!! great for me as beginner!!!

soon will post video

Wow... the color scheme looks awesome   How did you cut up the tape so accurately to make the checker-board ?

And there is an extra piece of what looks like CF rod on the left wing ?

Have you maidened it ?  Hope you have a video camera when you do that !

Thanks Anwar

CF rod pieces is just useless, just kept it there with cellotape, so that will not lose it, nothing else.

about color scheme, its Radium sticker. the same thing we use in our vehicle number plates.

i design this schem in CorelDraw, of course copied it from some planes available on net, and gave it to those people, they have computer operated radium cutter and cut exactly the way u design!!!! only hard work is sticking it on the plane, thats tedius job!!!!!

but end result is what u see, its really beatiful!!! now i afraid to fly this one!!!!!

How were the servos fixed ? Directly glued them on to the foam ?  If so, most people wrap them in tape (or even paper etc held in place by a wrapping of tape), so that they can be easily removed and reused on other planes in the future.

The landing gears also look  extra neat !

Hi Anwar,
If you are using foam safe glue from UHU no need to add extra weight by wrapping with tape. This glue will peel off easily if you want to remove it. (It’s rubberish).  Another thing I noticed, if you stick paper patterns on your planes body it adds more weight.  Best way to reduce it is to Paint it directly using templates (Paper cut outs) and spray paint. You can have bright fluorescent colors on your plane with minimum weight. If you remove the landing gear from the plane you will reduce further weight (means more power and more flight time). You just have to have a small patch of grass to land and you can hand launch for takeoff. I normally remove the landing gear as soon the trimming work is over. I will try to post my mustang pictures soon. Instead of carbon fiber roads you can even use BBQ sticks they are light weight and extremely hard to break since it’s made of Bamboo.  I use them to make push roads as well. You just have to put small steel roads at the end using little thread and epoxy. For steel road I use the safety pins (little big ones you get from the market) I pull out from my wife’s dressing table.  :giggle: :giggle:

Which of the UHU glues is foam safe ?  They have a variety of glues available in local stores here.

Regarding stickers, weight etc, I have been careless about that for the reason that I want the planes to handle some amount of wind. It is very hard to find times without wind here, and there is no real indoor arena... so just overpower it a bit, and be careless about the weight; is the formula I have been using ;)

I agree with u anwar, since it is hard to find grass in these days in mumbai, and our ground was not good, i preferred to have landing gears!!! and i know sticker will add little weight but power is enough for me. after learning i will upgrade motor to Emax cf 2822, and will bang!!!! i am using landing gears only for landing, take off is hand launch!!!!

about glue i directly used foam safe CA available on hobbycity (http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=8452)!!!! i know it is difficult to remove servos but i thought it to be best to fix it, if i crash it, i need to remove servo forcibly and clean its side. But i think wrapping a paper is good idea. Even foam safe rubber glue suggested by bmanoj2 is also a good idea, one available from hobbycity is really good (http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=3822)
i have it but even then i prefer foam safe CA!!!
This rubber glue is same same as fevibond, available locally, but doesn't react to foam, and great for foam!!!
u have to be very careful while using CA on servo, as there are chances that it may flow into the gap of servo case and stick in ur servo gears!!! it happened with me, so had to remove everything and clean it, tedious job, but wrapping a paper may help!!!

i think these 2 glue mentioned above should be made available in India, very important!!!

Hi Ash

That's a gorgeous looking plane and nice flying ....where did you get the stickers printed from????

and how did you exactly match the sticker scale in corel draw to you plane size. Any info would be great. i am planning to design my paint scheme and get it printed like you did..

hi ankurkaul17

abt stickers they r not printed, they r cut to size!!!

i hope u know abt radium, vehicle number plates r made up of it, those people hav computer machine and directly cut to exact size.

1st i took, top view picture, hanging my plane on wall and used it as ref to draw outline in CorelDraw so this way i will get exact outlines of the plane, and then used some plane pictures downloaded from net as ref to create scheme!!! then took it to those radium cutting people with plane and for their software enlarge complete size to exact plane size and cut it in different colors!!! again sticking is tricky but those people can do it easily!!!! i didnt try sticking it!!!

but u should know corelDraw for this, if u need more details let me know

Subbu. Set your camera to "manual" focus and the lens at "infinity" . All the flying shots will remain properly focussed

this one i dont have

hi,

yes i added one single horizontal stabilizer running from motor/front to the tail/elevator!! this piece gives strength and dont need to add CF rod and of course some support for electronics as well!! and since it is horizontal it gives good support to vertical fuse!!!! and no bending is possible if joined properly!!!! so fuse is straight and tight!! which is very important!! its size is almost same as vertical fuse, of course except canopy!!! before sticking it together i cut slots in both vertical and horizontal fuse and slide them in place something like interlocking and then stick it together, dont forget to create slots for wing as well!! its mentioned in the pdf.

those pdfs are very nice all u have to do is to take printout on A4 size paper, and stick those to create complete diagram, once done stick it on foam using tape and cut it stick it and its done!!!!

let me know if u need anything more!!!

yup that was me lot of rc yesterday god i mean it we stopped in between for drizzles and then went on all guns blazing (i heard it somewhere)

that dialogue was inspired by the hungry devilish looking eagles circling over his plane the nearly snatched my glider last time in air when i had ribbons on it

it was like -

ashish bhaiya - hey subbu can you shoot me a video

subbu - yeah sure just let me know where the zoom button and recording buttons are

ashish bhaiya (taking out his glittering camera from cover) - here you go

and i was just amazd it was a good camera
