Just wanted to share a few pics of my carbon fibre vinyl wrapped skysurfer fpv plane (skysurfer from Rcbazaar). Upgraded the motor and esc to 3500 outrunner brushless motor and 30 amp esc with 6x4 prop ( i think) . Flies like a jet now and looks deadly as well in my POV :giggle: . For my fpv kit i am using 5.8ghz rx/tx with clover leaf antennas. Hope you guys like it :)
SUPER COOL!
dude where did you get the vinyl from??
Thanks! I got the vinyl from the usual ordinary car accesories shop, they sell it in terms of square foot, and its not so expensive either :) . Its on ebay too, heres a link http://www.ebay.in/itm/3D-Carbon-Fiber-BLACK-Twill-Weave-Matte-Design-Decal-Vinyl-Film-12-x-24-Inches-/261262444887?pt=IN_Car_Accessories_Parts&hash=item3cd4748957&_uhb=1#ht_1864wt_922
@Kethorietuo.... The skysufer's looking deadly... nice one :)
Thank you ;D Actually when i fly people come to check out the plane and when they see its made of depron, they say its just a toy made up of the cartons you use to transport fish in >:( really irritates me, but nowdays when they see the carbon fibre vinyl wrap immediately they think different , saying how expensive it must be and all ;D and thats a good thing right? Lol
Nice :) :)
thanks bud, nice build..looks really neat..I just loved the texture
Black Beauty
Thank you all! Far too kind
Awesome looking. Which shop in blore did u buy the wraps in? Even I'm building a sky surfer for fpv. Waiting for osd . Any osd and etc to be added in yours?
Hi nice build very neat.
One query though. Is it Carbon fibre or just vinyl?. The ebay ID seems to have the same sheet in various colours. Makes me wonder is it actually carbon fibre or just vinyl?. What is the weight addition after the wrap of the film?
Bought the vinyl wrap from J.C road Bangalore. About the OSD am still deciding which one to go for , anyway i will buy mine from spherehobbies as they gave me good service when i bought a DJI Phantom from them . Link here http://www.spherehobbies.com/india/quadcopter-multi-rotor/270-dji-iosd-mkii.html
Its just a vinyl wrap with the carbon fibre texture , but its quite tough and cant be torn easily so it really protects the plane during rough landings and unintentional crashes :giggle: . I am not sure about the extra weight it adds but according to me its not noticable when you have a good motor +esc setup with a 2200mah battery.
@ sundaram sir : it just a sticker vinyl. you will get plenty of those in car accessories shops or number plates shops and its cheap too Rs.45/-sqft.
does it take the shape of the body it is wrapped on? is it porous?
Use a heat gun on the vinyl , it becomes very flexible and covers the curves without a crease, and no its not porous.
yes sir it does. but for perfect finish you need heat gun.
great job there kethorietuo, must fly it in Kohima too, get some aerial shot of the WWII cemetery next time when you go home and put it up here,
very cool looking.
Beautiful :hatsoff:
Self adhesive i presume.
And that the heat gun did not shrink the vinyl or melt the foam!
Beauty.. {:)}
@rcpilotacro , Thank you sir , Actually i am in Kohima right now so i will take pics of the ww2 cemetery and post it soon, got a gopro 3 black edition just the day before ,cant wait to try it out :)
@Rahulvyas and swizera : Thank you :)
@ K K Iyer :yes its self adhesive and about the heat gun , you need to heat the vinyl for only bout 3-4 seconds and it becomes very flexible (not more than that)
kethorietuo

i am in Kohima right now
i envy you, back in the late eighties (Was an avid biker then) whenever i got a chance i drove upto to Kohima, spent a night at Dabaka (they had a movie theater which didn't have chairs then, we had to sit a pile of sand :) ) sometimes visit Akashganga. Times were peaceful then. was a regular to a inn called
Do Drop inn wonder if it still exists. Kohima has always been close to my heart as close as Shillong (which i terribly miss)
Looking forward to see the cemetery from air,
PS
You must read My Years with IAF by PC Lal, there is an account of the Battle of Tennis Court there and how Sqn Ldr Arjan Singh spotted Japs coming down the mountain. I was lucky to hear the story from the horse's mouth (MIAF Arjan Singh)
@ sujju / rcbazaar
Thank you, Glad you liked it and hats off to you guys for making such an awesome plane!
looks beautiful!
was wondering how much real carbon fiber takes to cover the whole plane!
@rcpilotacro , wow sir, totally surprised you know Kohima so well, i always thought it was such a small town that nobody would even hear about it. Anyway the inn you were talking about is sadly no more , but my parents remember the place very well , seems it was very popular back in those days. Do try to come visit kohima again during the Hornbill Festival which starts from December 1 to 7, would love to take you around and do some flying with you (well lots actually) :giggle: . We are also planning to host an aeromodelling promotional event during the Hornbill Festival.
@praveen , thank you :) About the vinyl , it takes more or less than a metre to cover the whole plane.
Great Job! that finish looks pro!!
did you check how much weight does it add?
apart from looks does it gives any other benefit? like more crash poof?
Thank you,
Atul
@ atulrajguru , thank you & no i havent really checked out the weight yet, but it seems to be quite negligible. The vinyl wrap provides alot of strength to the fuselage and wings during rough landings and inevitable crashes.
Super Job... very innovative ... thank you for bringing another DIY tip into the forum ....
@divay99, thanks for the comment and you are most welcome for the DIY tip :)
Beautiful job, have a Hawk Sky (a bit damaged) hope to follow your method maybe will try it out, to strengthen the plane.....thanks for posting
