Guys,
Very soon I will be converting an EasyStar to brushless.
SunLikeStar, Did the HXT 2835 (380S) 2200kv fit into the stock mount/space ?
How was the power ? was it just OK ? or a little overpowered ?
I intend to carry a small payload of camera and electronics so need something that can haul it all up

Atul, would also be great to know what you used for yours .

Thanks
Gaurav

Hi Gaurav,

I used this setup as below -

motor - http://hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5203&Product_Name=HXT_2835_(380S)_2200kv_Brushless_Inrunner

Esc - http://hobbycity.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=2164

Prop - APC 6 * 4

Battery - I would say use a 2200mah or 1800mah. You can try both to correct the CG.

and this above motor is a perfect fit for the easy star. As if it was meant for it :D

Its an awesome fit!! I use the same motor with a different brand name, but its the same. I am sure it will give you enough power to haul your electronics, I think upto 300 grams should not be a problem. The only catch is that as you are running a small prop you have to throttle up to get that much power, which makes the plane go very fast.
Thats why i am thinking about raising the motor mount and running an outrunner with 7 or 8 inch prop.
If you dont have a heavy payload then the 2835 2200Kv runs like a dream. You can fly slow fast vertical, what ever you want.

The motor and prop arrived yesterday.
PFA pic of the motor attached on empty can of a permax 400.

My easystar with a new power plant, more power on half the current and still 50 grams lighter than my previous setup :)

I tried my new setup today, the plane is definitely flying much better than before, more thrust at less speed.
Only one problem, even tho i have not timed it in any way but i didn't notice any major improvement in flight time ???

If you are using the same battery then you should get more time, if not double.

thats what i was expecting, i am planning to time it properly tomorrow.

I love how the plane flies now, almost like  pattern flyer and if you want to glide; just go WOT for 30 seconds and the EZ will climb up to thermaling height, previously it used to take more than 1 minute for that.
But still not sure about efficiency of the motor. Is there any way i can do a static test without a watt meter or ammeter ???

What is the voltage the battery , type and capacity?

3S 2200 mAh lipo 25C.
I think I have sorted this out. I did 1 minute runs with both setup, each time recharging the battery and checking how much charge i am putting back in the battery. After doing multiple tests i found out that at WOT this setup is 50% more efficient and at half throttle it is 30% more efficient than my previous setup. Very happy and satisfied by the results :)
