The first plane I built was an avispad lookalike but due to some rookie mistakes it was not fit to fly. :banghead: So I went back to the drawing board and tried designing a pusher talking design cues from planes like the "Tuffy" and the "Nova" ;D. I had to make it with readily available and cheap materials so I made the wings using 3mm coroplast and the fuse using medium density thermocol. Glues used were hot glue(thermocol) and VenaBond(CA for coro).

Here the coro wing(flutes running chordwise) is shown. It is a little over 1.4 meters in span with a chord of 22 cm. The spar is 3 layers of coro 2.5cm in height with their flutes running spanwise. It turned out to be very rigid and really took a lot of beating :P I need to add some dihedral to it though..

The fuse was a little rough cuz I just eyeballed the dimensions. TLAR all the way :giggle:
The foam was cut with a kitchen knife and sanded wit 120 grit sanding block. Since this is the first time with foam I did not make the design complex..

The various mounts were made by sandwiching velcro straps between coro pieces and the fuse.

Here comes the sad part :( I had to get this one to fly! Knew it would crash but had to try anyway :P There are no experienced folk around my neighborhood.. Hand launched it. Flew away beautifully. Gave it full throttle and it went vertical. A sudden cross wind took me by surprise and the plane rolled to the side. With only a very limited roll authority provided by the rudder, I watched helplessly as it crashed into a tree :( Had to break the fuse to get it down.. Patched it up with some twigs but then it did not behave itself at all and I crashed it again :P

Build the fuse with coro.
Russ-40 Trainer, Mr.moss, Pushler, Skysurfer, Mugi , F-22, Red swan, Xtra-300, redfury, flying mantaray.

Coro is heavy and it will be difficult for me to build this particular airframe with coro. I am thinking of reinforcing the fuse with some coro strips and CF rods..

I have used thermacol fuse and its strong !!!! you can get a strong fuse with two sheets stick together and coat of brown paper with 50-50% water fevicol solution..... just have a look at threads....i have explained the process. for me even the wing is from thermacol without spar.

fin is small, directional stability will be poor, fin has to be taller as it has to come out of fuse masking
Gusty's Hangar and Introduction.

A Good pilot will practice until he gets it right,
A Great pilot will practice until he can't get it wrong.

same case with me i also built my model through pics and forum guidance.

You got to work on the fuse, take 2 similar pieces and stick them. do not give straight cuts provide a bit of curve... for ex. place just below the prop should have a curve this will give strength at that joint.

That fuse was only a test airframe. Will build a better one later..!
Temporarily out of the hobby now as I shorted my ESC accidentally :'( I do not have the funds to buy one at present..
I would be forever grateful to anyone if he can show me a way to fix a red brick 50A(got sprayed with water) or a F-60A (accidental reverse polarity on the battery terminal) ESC otherwise I may have to leave the hobby for good..

I'm in the process of building a blubaby. Can anyone tell me how to add a dihedral? The wings wouldn't just stay at that angle!

See VC's Avispad build log. Assuming you are using coro, follow the steps given in that thread.  Do not forget to use the wing wrap..
Alternatively you can also make a spar with the correct angle of dihedral and glue it on. Use epoxy at the fold line! The attached pictures from "spadtothebone" will make it clear..

Yes, I use coro and araldite standard epoxy for glueing it.
Thanks for the info!
But making a wing is way too complicated than I had expected.
I thought I just cut it, put some books to hold the wings with a dihedral of ~1", then glue them down and reinforce later.
Will this work? Thanks!

Use light or medium CA for gluing flat surfaces and use hot glue for the spar. Epoxy takes too long set and is difficult to work with IMHO. Use epoxy only to provide structural rigidity to places after gluing them with CA. This will ensure that the parts you are gluing do not move while the epoxy sets..
