My first entry >:D
Fuse
@sanjayrai55 sir,
Disq for jumping gun ;D.
Race not yet started.
Dont even know if its a race.
If you post any more pics of your builds,
We will have to run away in shame.
Sanjay Sir,
With your build speed, looks like we will have one entry, build and maiden every week till the results are out 8-)
May God have mercy on the jury's :giggle:
I just opened a thread for the sweepstakes and Sanjay Sir has already completed the fuse. How can we stand up to such competitions
Hi,
I started to built my idol balsa kit plane 2 days back.Just finished fuse and started with wing .Will i be eligible for this sweepsstakes ??:headscratch: :headscratch:.I never knew its happening :banghead:
regards
Vasanth
Sorry to bump into your thread sir,
Mod:Please delete this post from this thread.

Vasanth
Sir, please slow down... there are slow builders like us also in the competition
Hurry hurry hurry :D :D
Fuse complete. Will start on the wings next week
Wing build
The only tricky part in the wing build (besides figuring out what goes where) is the ailerons. These are fully built up on the TE, and then cut out :o
Aileron cut out
Port wing fully trimmed and sanded
sweet!!
Thank you Suvansh :D
Super build.. {:)}
laxman
Good going Sanjay sir. {:)} {:)} where is the old one :headscratch:
Thank you Laxman. When are you going to drop in and fly with us?
Thanks Nithinraj :)
I gave the old one to a fellow flier
Superb build :thumbsup: {:)} {:)}
Thanks MKS
Come and fly with us in Gurgaon sometime :D

Sure Sir.. :)
rightnow I'm building one small foamie for newly bought 1818 Odin.. :)
Good luck with your build MKS
Build continues.
Fitting servos, pushrods and wing bolts. The kit comes with no hardware nor wing mount system, so I improvised
Hingeing. Anyone from Pune? There is a place called Hinge-wadi there ;D ;D
Mylar hinges for the tail empennage; pin hinges for ailerons
yesh sanjay sir,
Hingewadi is pretty close to our pancard flying field... ;D
but any one would hardly find any RC related hinges there :giggle: :giggle:
Very nice sir... looks amazing
Thanks Girish
Ready for covering and assembly
Covering started. Used transparent yellow as I had it in stock, and couldn't get solid Cub yellow locally.
First painted the cowl and wheel hubs, and fitted the wing (aileron) servos
I fit servos (in these positions where screwing down is not possible) by using heavy duty double sided foam tape and a Zip (Cable) Tie. Reliable.
* Hint: If you use E-Max 8.5 gram servos, save the card packing. Makes a perfect template for marking out servo holes when you need to cut them. Same size as all standard 8.5'9 gram servos from HK etc.
Covering
Covering complete. Started assembly
Used a commercial motor mount from RCB as the motor has to be forward for the cowling fitting and CG balancing
Display quality workmanship.
Sir, why do you waste your time on coros?
Change the pilot before he gets stuck inside the cockpit ;D
Iyer sir :thanks:
Corro models are fun too, and cause less heartache when they crash ;) ;D
The Jerry Pilot is now glued into his seat and refuses to come out unless Tom the Cat enters the cabin
IF I was the judge of sweepstakes...
I would award Sanjay sir for the fastest builder of the year......
cant wait to see this beauty into the air :hatsoff:
Admin: Please make madaquif the judge :D :D :D
Everyone knows this.
Any member appointed judge will come to the same conclusion. ;D
i am with madaquif sir!!
Beautiful sanjay sir.
give me some tips to cover balsa. does any other option for shrinking the covering without having that heat ion.
yes cover with kite paper and damp it with some glue and water sol...... the paper will streach once dry
but it will be delicate.
else use tape..... then iron it . that will iron out the wrinkles
I tried some gelatin paper and other plastic covering sheets. but the problem is How to stick that on balsa.
orocover covering films have glue on one side.
@manoj... you can use a hairdryer to heat shrink the covering.
@sanjay sir... thanks for th pics
Manoj:
1. Up to about 28~30 " span you can use tissue: Put the tissue on with glue, then spray water and let dry. The tissue shrinks tight. Now coat with Dope (NC Lacquer)
2. For 25 and above nitro models you can use nylon. Use an old sari, then Dope and paint (Oil Paint works fine)
3. Gusty sir has used Cellophane wrapping paper with success. Details are in my Red Swan build
4. Heat Shrink can be applied using an ordinary electric iron. A small travelling iron (about Rs. 400 on e-bay) works fine.
5. Be careful if using an electric hair dryer. It can pull the covering off the glued surface and ruin it

3. Gusty sir has used Cellophane wrapping paper with success. Details are in my Red Swan build
yes i have ! i prefer oracover though, for simple reason that, cellophane looses strength after a while. it is not at all water friendly, it is light however, after a few days you need to apply heat once again, else the skins sags again. other than that, for cheap and best repairs and micro aeroplane use, cellophane is as good as it can get
Started finishing
More
And still more :D
Cut some air vents and shaft hole in the canopy. Unfortunately the canopy came badly dented; I tried to straighten it out a bit with a hot air gun
Horizontal stab glued on
Setting the Vertical Stab in place
Stab glued in
Sanjay sir,
Its looking too good and like a RTF not a SCRATCH built....
looking forward for the maiden.
Thank you Saurabh :D
We need you to come for the maiden ;)
How did you color the wheel hub yellow so neatly ...?
Any tips there?
Just enamel paint! And Camlin brush ;D
Great build Sanjay sir
Thanks Sujith. Where is your build log for the '14 Sweepstakes? ;) ;)
no build log ... too lazy :P :P
Zabaarrrr dast..... {:)} {:)} {:)} {:)} {:)}...
@sanjayrai55 sir,
At this rate i will have no option left but to build this (waiting since 1996).
I will be able to prove, like Lance says, that 'my fuselage is longer than yours'
Alas, what's the use. Can never meet the second condition.
As stated by the venerable rcpilotacro:
'It's not the size that matters, it's what you do with it...'
@sanjay sir you rock, this is just great. Looking forward to its Maiden this Sat.... :hatsoff:

Thanks Amitabh. Should be fun ;)
Landing gear fitted
Used a small amount of toe-in for better tracking
Horns and Aileron Pushrods fitted. Radio settings and controls done
Sir this one looks the best builds i have seen for long now....This really deserves a standing ovation. Super Sexy....looks like it will look really beautiful while flying...Keep up the great work going.... {:)} {:)} {:)} {:)} {:)}    . Cheers!!!
Thanks Achin :thanks: :thanks:
Since Iyer sir wanted a change in the pilot, I was in a quandary ??? ???
Then, a bright idea. I drew in a moustache on a pilot figure I had and put that in. Now it looks like Iyer sir is the pilot :giggle: :giggle:
And if it crashes, the pilot is to blame >:D
Again & Again...Great Work Sir. {:)} {:)} {:)}
Thank you so much Sandeep :thanks: :D
Complete! Maiden planned this weekend :o
Weight without battery 639 grams
As the CG balanced perfectly with a 2200 mAh, I will use that - 191 grams
Flying weight will be 830 grams. I can live with that!
Will start with a SF 9*47 prop, and take it from there
Lovely model Sanjaybhai. Great work and finishing.
Very happy to see piper cub.. Waiting for flying Video
beautiful ,congrats.............!!
Thank you Taitil Bhai :D
Thank you Rohit

Sanjay Sir,
Each time you build one it's always beautiful & you make it seem so simple..don't you get bored doing it perfectly all the time?
"हमसे तो नहीं बनता, बनता है तो उड़ता नहीं, उड़ता है तो फिर उतरता नहीं और उतर भी गया तो फिर कहाँ उतरा मिलत नहीं और समझो मिल गया तो एक साथ नहीं मिलते कुछ यहाँ कुछ वहाँ और फिर समझो बटोर लाय तो बीवी घर में रखने नहीं देती...क्या करें ?"
Theek se banao, theek se udao,
Aur gharwali sahiba se
RC Aunt ki shagirdi carao!
Flying Brick....Wah Wah Wah!
FB and Iyer sir, I read this out to my wife of 30 years, and this is her comment:
Banana to seekh jaayenge, udana to seekh jaayenge, lekin Biwi ko manana to naseeb waalon ka kaam hai...
BTW, main bahut nasseb wala hoon. Biwi ko manana nahi padta...
Wah!!! Kya naseeb hai!
Sanjay Sir, this 'Piper' must break the 'Piper' curse on RC Bolts. Please put the TIKKA also on it.... ;D
Ricky Amitabh, it will fly without any hocus pocus, don't worry ;)
Sanjay Sir and Iyer Sir, thanks for the tip :P
