Thanks rohit. It would be great if you can post the pics and the video of how the flaps and spoilers works :).
I have set my dual rates to 50% for all the controls

more video of today

Sreedhar

Congrats azhaguvel.... She is flying beautifully.. Did you make any changes????

Will surely do, just give me a couple of days.
Be Inquisitive

azhaguvel

and more :D

It rained 3 times during my two flights. It crashed at the end of this video. The aileron control arm came out of the servo(could not put the screw :( ) and I lost control in mid air, Came down spiraling down. Guess what no damage to anything. Everything was intact even the propeller.

azhaguvel

Yes sreedhar. Changed the battery to 1000 mah, propeller to 10*5 and importantly a better prop saver :D. Not like the last one which broke 3 propeller: D. Now it flies at half throttle, Motor doesn't get hot and doesn't break the propeller when it lands

VC

Congrats Azha, you are inspiring me to build one now!

God help you if I do build one, because you are going to go around the bend answering my questions and helping me out. ;D

azhaguvel

helping you out VC sir???. I have to check my eyes :P.

VC

Wait till I start pestering you with queries........................ ;)

That is a lovely model :hatsoff: paint her red and white ( just a suggestion) she'll be gorgeous!

azhaguvel

Hehehe you are most welcomed sir :D . It was a great help when you sent me the samples to search the sources in trivandrum but I couldn't find any else except coro here:P.

VC

Aaall is well!  :goodjob:

BTW, you haven't used any wing reinforcement like carbon rods, have you? Or have I missed that? What is the weight of your motor, any links? What happens if this baby is powered with a higher KV motor?

Motor 2210N: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=8621

GWS9050 @3S
Max Amp: 11.2A
RPM/Min: 8700
Thrust: 740g

This motor has max current rating as 11.2A. With your earlier prop being 9050, you were already hitting this limit. Now, since the prop dia is increased to 1050 won't the current draw also increase, resulting in a potential motor burn under sustained full throttle?

Better prop saver ? Could you provide links to your previous and newer prop saver ?

KALYANPRODHAN

In electrical engineering "Load is the king". As you oversized the prop, the load requirements fulfills in lower throttle position. Now, if you give full throttle, it can burn.

Prop changing change the  operating point only, but not the load.
Load will increase if you keep the throttle in same position. More air volume/Sec.

So, as long as you not fly at very fast, you are saved.
We have to unite and to prove ourself to make indigenous products as well as marketing / Canvasing them. I'm sure we must achieve success if we try unitedly.

azhaguvel

changed to 10*5 cos of the added weight of 1000 mah. previously it was 500 mah But still the motor just seems to be warm after a 5 min flight ???. The amps measurement came to 12.47 amps during bench test. Will be shifting back to 9*5 for next flight :).

A better prop saver:
previously I was using this
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=10908

It is too small for this shaft so I drilled it using a drill bit and fitted it. Then The shaft was too long and didn't allow the prop to slip out when it hits ground so it broke a few props in hard landings

Now I am using the prop saver which came along with this motor
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5687

fits perfectly and allows the prop to slip on hard landings.

Planning to put landing wheels. I have this
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5211

It would be a tail dragger. Dont have a tail wheel so planning to but a strip of plastic or coro replacing back wheel.

KALYANPRODHAN

Better use higher KV motor with smaller prop. The prop damage chances would be less if you make zero throttle before crash landing.

Do you have wing reinforcement ? I have it with bamboo strip.

azhaguvel

Ya I goto zero before landing. Yes I have a 3mm carbon fibre tube as wing reinforcement But needs some more reinforcements.

Landing gear.

where to put it ???

As in pic 2 close to the motor

or

as in pic3 at the back of the aileron servos

azhaguvel

@VC Yes will paint her :D . I dont have any high kv motor with me.

azhaguvel

izmile

Both LG locations should be fine as long as the wheels stay before the CG. However, I would prefer having the LG closer to the motor to avoid prop hit or a cartwheel
"Anything can fly" - SPADs just prove that!

azhaguvel

Thanks Izmile for the suggesion but I was in hurry that time so took the second option and installed it. Went for a try.

here is some pics of the landing gear

video of take off and landing

next step is to paint it.

azhaguvel

Thanks sreedhar couldn't have done it without you :D

Sreedhar

You are the one man... You have inspired me to build one too..... Congrats man... All the best for your next project...

Thanks VC  :hatsoff: . Next I am confused either to make a new one and put all the electronics under the fuse and color it or removing the electronics from this one and fix all the dents and tears, then color this one itself. It has taken lot of crashing still ready to fly. I love this bird.

ashutoshn

Loved the style in which the plane landing  ... LG looks good.
