Thanks Kapil. Dedication is a big word - I'm just a 59 year old schoolboy making up for wasted time  ;) ;)

Like an open jeep has a rollover bar, this has a Rollover Pylon! Funda is if it rolls over on landing, the pilots don't break their necks  >:D

From Wikipedia:

"The PT-19 series was developed from the Fairchild M-62 when the USAAC first ordered the aircraft in 1940 as part of its expansion program. The cantilever low-wing monoplane with fixed landing gear and tailwheel design was based on a two-place, tandem-seat, open cockpit arrangement. The simple but rugged construction included a fabric-covered welded steel tube fuselage. The remainder of the aircraft used plywood construction, with a plywood-sheathed center section, outer wing panels and tail assembly. The use of an inline engine allowed for a narrow frontal area which was ideal for visibility while the widely set-apart fixed landing gear allowed for solid and stable ground handling."

"......was gentle and forgiving. It did have a temper,
however, and if you stepped on the brakes too hard, she'd nose over.
there is a "roll over" pylon between cockpits to counter this
effect."

I have built as many Balsa models too; earlier Nitro and recently (in the last 1 1/2 years after returning to the Hobby) Electric.
I have also built 4 FT Depron models.

But yes: all factors considered, strength, weight ease of building I feel Corro (in a composite material build) is the most economical and rugged - for models 800 grams to 3 Kg and power 250 Watt and above

Sire, once you have finished playing with this beauty, could you please keep her for me? :hatsoff:

Sam (samlikesspad) Sandeep Bajare and a Doctor in Indore - all make really good Corro models. I have however enjoyed some success with adapting mid-sized Balsa/Nitro to Corro/Electric

Oh Sam sir from Kerala am I right?. you peoples are the coro specialists.

Have to show Flying Doc this!
He's been off the forum for quite a while. But was flying this Sunday.
I think his last coro was called Ultra Ugly.
Or at least should have been!

sanjayrai55

Aah, yes of course. You must be flying with him. He doesn't seem to visit the forum much nowadays

ashok baijal

I just fished out my pt19. Its a small plastic model from Cox with a nitro engine. I hope Iyer remembers it as he was the one who flew it at Parade Ground, Secunderabad most probably in 1992 when we were both posted in Hyderabad.

Someday will convert it to electric rc.

sundaram

@Sanjay Sir. The fuselage is already a beauty with perfect curves.

@Baijal Sir. Let it be with cox only please do not covert to electric.

sanjayrai55

In fact, the first ever engine model I owned was the Cox PT 19!!! Was in Class 7 then. Before that had built the usual Gnomes and Magpies, Yellow Birds and Bobnis  ;D :D

sanjayrai55

Sandy sir,  :thanks:

The fuse lower part also is supposed to be curved, but I'm not doing that. Too much work, and don't want to increase weight

radiocraft

Nice awesome build sir. I question: what's is the tail made of is that a depron sandwiched between Coro .?

radiocraft

sanjayrai55

I have not started the wing yet, but it will be a part of this log. I have posted many corro models and their wings - have a look at those

In any case, the adaptation of balsa plans to corro wing is too difficult to document; many things are done on TLAR basis

The tail is made of corro, simply. 4 mm. I have covered with Vinyl as written clearly in the log
