Hello everyone,
I had the guts of a coaxial IR controlled heli lying around, so i thought of building an airframe for them to fit in. Its a dual motor pusher propeller airplane, controlled by differential thrust, designed to fly in a 15'X20' room. (at least this is what i thought before building it:D)
construction material:- 9'' dia. foam plates
powerplant:- 9mm coreless motor+ 1'' dia. prop
wingspan:- 38 cm
fuse length:- 29 cm
airfoil:- undercambered
here are the pics
Few more pics
Wing closeup
The wing is made up of two sections of 19cm each. It has a chod of 9cm. And has a tip dihedral of 1.5cm
initially i decided to go for a flat plate wing with a little chamber formed by rolling it over a 2'' dia. pvc pipe, but then decided to skeletonise it and cover it with tissue paper in order to reduce weight.
Two balsa ribs and a spar are also added just to provide strength

The plane will be a two channel one with differential thrust, hence no controll surfaces are needed.
I think i got a little libral in the size department and the plane came out to be a little bigger in size:D..........but am not sure about it as i am a nubie........so comments are welcomed friends!!
hey bilal, where are u dude?
i went to college day before yesterday, for flying. i tried calling you many time. but i didnt get you..
our planes gathered lots of croud as well..
regarding ur plane, its beautifully build. you wont need rudder in this plane as per your scheme..
Hey Abhay Sir,
damn, i missed the show........actually my vacations are onn, so am at home these days.....but still if you would've told me earlier, I syre would've joined you there:)
and regarding the build.....it was just a timepass, and am really amazed the way it came out:)
frankly speaking, i didn't expect to build something this beautiful.......thanx for the comment
hey where did you get that foam from.. i searched a lot till aminabad, but didnt get any :(
Arrey Sir, its nothing special, just regular foam plates that are used in marraige cerimonies etc.
I got hold of a couple of them with a diameter of 9'' and cut out the center flat section.
Its thickness is little more than 1mm (didn't have vernier so can't tell you the accurate measurement)........so i joined two such pieces to obtain desired thickness of 3mm for the wing, rest all is just 1mm
Bilal nice built,
How or what tool you use to get the wing skeletonise ( i mean the tool to accurate drawing )
regds/// saurabh
Thanx Saurabh sir,
i didn't use any tool for generating the pattern on the wing halves. Just calculated the seperation and angle between the load bearing members of the truss and drew the pattern directly on the wing halves using sketch pen.
This pattern was later on cut by surgical scalpel using a no. 11 blade(which you can actually see in the pic)

Bilal, Good Craftwork.
One long balsa strip required for wing tip to tip to take load of electronics if you put inside. Please check if required.
Thanks
Thanx Kalyan Sir....thank you very much
its really an honour to be appreciated by you
and sir i have already added a balsa spar at 1/3 the chod......will this be enuff?
Very neat build Bilal! I admire the neat cuts. How do you plan to mount the motors and when do you plan to do it? {:)} {:)} {:)}
Frankly speaking sir, though i made the airframe out of excitement but I still don't know where and how to mount the motors :headscratch:
I'd be glad if you suggest something:)
and thanx for liking my work
regards
-Bilaal
Since you've already put a strip of wood (?) to create the under cambered win shape, why don't you mount your motors using those spars as reinforcement? What are you using for the 1" props? Heli tail rotors?
Friends, i think I should make it clear that this is'nt my design, I copied it from a couple of pics I found on the net.......though I personally feel that after the modyfications I have done, it has become i new design in itself.........neways you guys see and deside
Those ribs are cut from some 3mm balsa, i had lying around.....and you caught me right sir, i planned to use heli tail rotors that came with my heli, but now after seeing the size of the plane, am i doubt whether they will provide enuff thrust or not?
And one more thing sir, suppose i hot-glued mu motors to the balsa rib, then won't thry be pointing downwards?
very neat build {:)} {:)} {:)} subscribed and following closely
FLIGHT VIDEO
:hatsoff: bro, those wing portions are looking like machine cut, excellent finish and great improvisation on wings. {:)} One query... will the tissue paper be strong enough to take the stress on wings..or you are going to stiffen the tissue paper.
Amit,
i don't know about the strength......but I've applied three coats of 50/50 solution of fevicol sh with water and the tissue if pretty stiff now ;D
Eager to see the flight videos if it was recorded please.
