Two of us have got Addiction X (Santhosh and I), we are building it simultaneously (1775 Kms Apart), a combined buildlog and fly log with different servos and motors will be undertaken, more people with Addy X can join in. Let us get addicted to Addy X.
available here (http://www.precisionaerobatics.com/product_details.php?pid=635), Mr Adad is very prompt in replying, shouldn't be a problem to get one.
Preview of My addiction X (green) , santhosh has the Red one. Watch out this space for more
Rookies and Experienced alike are enjoying Addy X , all available colors flying together, I don't think the photographer is a RC man, at 02:15 he almost had a crew cut :giggle:

looks like my kind of 3d bird ! PA has inspired me as well ;D
beauty, you built it ?
A year ago..the wing design, perticularly the huge tip chord makes it very stable at low speeds. An advantage for me as i dnt have dual rate function on my Tx (as 3d throws will toss it around violently, thus making it more difficult to fly slow).
Here is how it looks now after being grounded for good. heavily modded with thicker foil & new colour scheme.
actually if you see, the LE of the aileron should be swept back, which means Root Chord of the Aileron should have been longer than the Tip Chord, even now if you can redesign the aileron and she should fly well. In fact you brought it out yourself, in the last post i typed it and deleted it (Fearing your anger ;) ), my suspect was same, Tip Stall.

got it.... used to have one all the time at school - Granna said, it would make you come to the barber not too often :D
Well the way they were holding the plane in sync reminds me when Thai snake handler's kid used to get thier first snakes! they showed on Nat Geo and only its picture could justify my simily
no issues, never get angry ;)
Get ur point. Will try ur suggestion on my next build.
Idea was to leave aileron tips broad enough to make them more effective,
by the way i was happy with this design as this plane helped me learn atleast some 3d tricks :P....and i can say i did ok with self designed plane.
this one's even older..
few pics of my addy x,will start the build soon, waiting for the servos from tower
gorgeous santhosh, i am waiting for dinachandran to come back soon, so that i can start the build
i have seen the smaller 1 flying and i even i thinking about getting a plank like that
just a pain to transport planes when u dont have a car. maybe i get 1 for flying on the beach back in thailand
Green Addiction X Will be using TGY AerodriveXp 46 SK Series 50-55 580 instead of Recommended Thrust® 40 Motor . Comparison of these motors are as follows :-
TGY 5055 Thrust 40
Kv (rpm/v) 1250 850
Weight (g) 142 140
Max Current (A) 61 45
Power(W) 630 500
Shaft A (mm) 4 5
Length B (mm) 46 41
Diameter C (mm) 35 37.2
Ex Showroom $ 40$ 80$
Esc that i will use will be Turnigy Plus 80 A (40$) as opposed to PA Quantum 45A (80$)
However will be using Recommended VOX T40-X Electric wooden propeller
Red one will be using recommended Props and Motors & TGY 60A ESC.
As you can see TGY Wt is nearly same, pull is good, dia is 2.2 mm less and cost is half
Your Views !!!
thats a big motor, i think i underestimate size of this plane. what battery are you planning to run it on?
recommended 2200 mah 3S (Not the costly ones, HK ones ;) )
PS
thats one damn big motor, review says pulls like 90-110 2S engine
i got a few 4s 2200 batteries
can any 1 recomend a motor for that?
allso got a bunch of jazz esc, 40`s and 80`s is 40 enough on 4s or should i go for 80?
Quote from: augustinev on April 19, 2011, 07:17:54 PM
Red one will be using all recommended Props ESCs and Motors.
no, i am planing to use turnigy 60 amp esc for this, all other things remains as per the manual, waiting for the servvos and vg's.then too i am not sure when i start the build, yak 54 and piper cub from praveen are still in queue :giggle:
i've used Turnigy Plush 40amp ESC and I continue to use it. I must say its a very good ESC. Delivers good power to the motor. It can handle a 4S Lipo too without overheating.

How about if I build it for you in June ?? when on vacation to Kerala ?
that will be fine  . thanks a ton
why it is so important to seal the aileron and elevator hinge gaps in addictionx,no idea how it affects the flying characterestics of a plane, hope augustinev can answer ;)
that too with carbon tape, WTF ??? out of their minds, no effect at all. Reason ? there is something called Laminar Sub Layer it is the dead air close to the aeroplane which is still, and does not move with respect to the airplane, . However PA Need to have done something about the Kevlar String of the pull pull system which keeps stretching (People have used twisted fishline instead of supplied Kevlar String) and the canopy falling off in 3D.
i was wrong about the motor. it is 50 mm in dia and weighs 329 grams
balancing cg will be a problem for you if you are using this motor, if you need i will try to get one thrust 40 motor for you, not sure.it's better to go for the recommended setup when playing with the costly beauties,, i told you already :giggle:
I ordered 82 Metal Gear with Rotor.co.in, i got Hitec 81 Nylon Gear, some packing error , :banghead: there is no Hitec 82MG in the world, even on HK it is on BK :giggle: , found a good alternative to 82MG this one (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6608) , dunno whether to go with it or not ??? Got two alternative motors instead of thrust 40 , no names no stickers, just simple motors, similar dimensions and weight, one is 800KV and one 1000KV, rest i need to figure out on my own
I got the hs82mg from tower, Rcd the servos and vg's on the same
day, don't worry your thrust 40 will reach here on Monday morning
, cfmd
Thrust 40 is here , Thanks to Santhosh, Here is the pics of Vortex Genes and VOX 40 Prop and Dry Fit of Addy X (Go Green with Envy, Green my colour)
started my build today, completed one wing almost, used thick ca instead of thin for hinging the ailerons, its like epoxy gives some time for the corrections.
Nice... they even give you a jig to set your throws !
just finished one wing today, i am using the covering iron for the first time, think i have done my first attempt beautifully
for sealing the aileron hingegap
pics
the carbon fibre servo horn extensions is optional, really sorry augustinev :banghead:, made some notches on both sides of the carbon pushrods for better gluing
Way to go, that is some pro job there
Lovely Santosh..
Awesome job..
Thanks atul, btw which multiplex model
You r looking from Rcd
Am still not able to decide.. :giggle:
Perfect Santosh ,, as always what a clean finish {:)}
tnx praveen, for one wing two days for me ,still no idea whn iam going to finish this, if in mood i will fininsh it soon, but the mood is different here :giggle: :giggle:
haha i heard the mood is super party theme there ..Nasar mentioned it when i met him at the wedding party in Mumbai........cheers nd enjoy
instead of 82 MG (Not available anywhere) going with 85 mg, more torque and 3 gms more , pics attached
here is my Thrust 40 (Thanks Santhosh [in air big names are difficult to call, therefore i am gusty {my call sign, like Maverick of 'Top Gun'} , Santhosh should be Santa What say.
Thrust 40 , HK 50 Amps ESC, and hitec 85 MG + Hangar9 Sealing Iron and here i go
(http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k629/augustinev/PA%20Addy%20X/SANY0013.jpg)
cant see the hanger 9 sealing iron there ;),it's with me.remove the circlip and washer from thrust 40 before mounting it, hope u know it already
Starting the Build Log
before that, Here are some of the Flying Shots
The Desire to Fly one started here with this Anwar Bhai's Thread http://www.rcindia.org/electric-power/precision-aerobatics-high-quality-arf-kits/
Santhosh & I started this going, (thanks Santa :hatsoff:) and it took some 5-6 people carrying this across the globe to places where even Aerofundan wouldn't have thought his aeroplanes would go.
Anyways some more eye candy before we get to work
Today Did a nice long Wing Tip touch on the Dew wet grass while KEing, wish i had a camera person
nice photos, waiting for the videos of addy x, now i know why you selected the green one :salute:
1. Reinforce the motor mount with diluted Titebond, Brush it in the nook and crannies of the mount (Do not overdo it either, remember as far as addy x is concerned it is all about weight)
2. Dry fit the mount including the pins , do not force it, if it doesnt fit sand the fuse side hole a little. see it fits.
3. Be careful of fitting the CF pins, in the box itself they are in small pieces , so while opening the cover be careful, do not drop one.
1. Cut out the cooling air vent as shown. cut extra and iron the rest, 150 deg setting on the iron is good.
2. Cut out the servo tray cover, likewise , cut a little extra and iron it.
3. CA the anti rotation pin , after it is dry sand it slightly
4. Iron the entire airplane esp tailplane
1. Cut out the Tailplane Covering and iron it, in the similar manner as said before
2. Cut out the tailplane wooden slot as shown
3. Keep the piece, after sliding in the tailplane you'll have to refix it back (I did not use the stock wooden piece i used the same cut out portion because the stock doesn't have any colour
4. The slot for hinges are laser marked so it is really easy, remember , there are two sizes of hinges, smaller ones are for ailerons, bigger ones are for elevator and rudder. unlike Chinese kits, in these kits there are no extra hardware available so it is best to lay it out and decide

Thanks , clicked by Ashley, thanks to him, for sparing time and clicking pics,
Green! Has a lot of advantages, 1. Go green 2. Different from yours, I believe only two of us have it in india
more pics for post #45
One more
Prop Flew off, should have turned right to land on the R/W anyways, broke the Wheel pants, slight damage to Undercarriage and motor mount
Pls don' t remind me of the addiction :banghead:
red and purple, the next two, how is the idea ?
got couple of enquires on addiction x
Airframe ESC & Motor (I Suggest you go with this)

Happy to see the Addiction X airworthy again. :)
some more pics of addiction x
today was addiction x day, flew 5x 2200mah 4S for about 70 minutes, before rain hit, here are some pics.
Highlights
KOD (Kiss of death) sunny couldn't capture that
Inverted landing with zero damage
Nice, steady blenders
Torque rolls
Rolling Harriers
Lots of tumbles and inverted spin
upload performance videos sir
some more shots (Rest in FB)

Need a helping hand, all this by my 12 Yr old. :)
A few Mod post motor mount ripping off incident
1. Blue Cowling coz red decal will change to blue (Ordered another blue cowling, i guess post office ate it)
2. Changed over Turnigy 3020B (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=14734). with this i am on a 4S 2200 mah batt and a 14x8 prop, 1/2 throttle hover 7 min flying time and 54 amps draw at WOT. Lot of propwash (Required for Addy X to control you torque roll especially when giving forward elevator correction)
3. Moved the rudder servo from the motor mount to the fuse, so got into CG issues, therefore added some weight and mounted motor upfront as seen in the image
Changed back to Thrust 40 motor, but a 4S setup with 12x6 prop. enjoying early morning 3D flights
today's flying
Awesome :D
that's a mig 21 in the back??! where do you fly? ;D
Those are yester years Sukhoi-7, retired now and in the museum now
oh... :P looked like a mig... they both had a similar-ish build... ;)
Deserves to go here too, so what if it is realflight :)

Hi,
Please can you upload links from HobbyKing for theMotor/ESC combo and servos you have tried on your 3D and would recommend to fellow modellors.... You have mentioned the above D-MG 16 Servos... how are they performing?? any good ??
The plane will be around 1.2KG with 3 cell battery 1800 to 2200 mah and I really do not want to go above this as all my models are based on 3 cell batteries.
I had Corona 9 MG (from Hobby King) metal geared servos on my MX2 and they jittered at a certain Stick position .... good job I noticed and substituted them, or else I would have lost the model on its maiden.
" Deepak Chopra 97 points - 9/6/2013
I bought 6 of these at USD 4.55 each ....Corona 929MG Metal Gear Servo 2.2kg/ 12.5g/ 0.10sec I used 2 of them in my MX2 3D in the wings. Thank god I did not fly the plane with these in it or would have been carrying a bag of bits home..... Tried everything to sort them out, I have had to remove them eventually.... Not very happy with them. What will I do with the 4 others ..have yet to decide... These servos are glitching...anyone know why??

See this video;
sorry for late rep, saw the post now, during that time i was out of country. sorry again
eventually ended up with Thrust 40 motors and Hitec 5085 servos, on the other one i am going to try JR servos will let you know how it performed. ESC is YEP 6S capable.
This aeroplane flies like a dream, crash resistant ? not at all. wood quality is good, motor mount is its Achilles heels, twice i have had motor mount flying off, but then i was using motor which was 1200W as opposed to rec 500 W,
Thurst 50 (not 40) and a good ESC is what i will recommend. you are better off with hitec servos, i used MKS to all kinds, no good
corona servos are crap, what do you do with them ? keep it, you could use it sometimes in non critical areas like barn door flaps, hook release etc
Sorry Gusty,
I have already bought the motor and ESC.....
See image.. need to buy some 4 cell packs now.

"Hitec 5085 servos" .............. Are these a reasonable equivalent of these on HobbyKing..;
