rcpilotacro

did you look up ?no ? that's why !! a spy satellite wizz past all of you'll, it even spotted the missing Yak Motor, still spinning somewhere in the bushes

HAHA true the yak motor ripped apart its motor mount and fell out...the thrust was too much for the balsa mount glued and reinforced only with feviquick

Hey i can see JR viewing this page ,iam sure he is uploading the yak maiden followed by my stomping  ;D

akky

this is the reason amir and i dont like yaks..have said i earlier many times on our field..also.
Arcarious @ Akky.....
I have never crashed while flying....Its the Landing only that gets me....
Happy Landings....&.....Happy Crashings

Wonder why it was sent straight up in the first place ?  Did the motor cut off ? Was any check done of the power system in terms of amps drawn ?

Seeing the people involved, I am pretty sure all these have been verified, still had to ask :)

Yak is a very forgiving plane..I'd never blame its design in perticular. If it were me, i'd rather focus on what i did i do with it.

rcpilotacro

+ to that,

Foamie especially requires little control power to fly, because of which it tends to be snappy, so maiden is always is with very little throws and slowly increase it and take it from there, i am not saying that's what has gone wrong here, it could have been bad motor to radio lock out to a bird strike.

after crash, Saurabh was saying that he didnt had any control on it, may be radio issue, but it cost him his beautiful build

Hey Ashish Y dint you post the video of saurab  >:D himself driving his car back and forth on his model wheel spinning trying to rip it to Smithereens

>:D himself ask me to stomp on it ,,,me has to follow after all  >:D is my gutuji & unfortunately this was the dakshina  he  asked for a  Stomp Pomp Romp  ;D

foamybuilder

we should never use motor power for take off, we should let wing to do its job

rcpilotacro

+1 for that

Cause for most crash, esp foamies

Flat-foamies (with no airfoil) DO NOT produce any lift !
U need some motor power (thrust) for forward motion in order to get it going in flight (irrespective of airfoil ).

This is not totally true. Flat-foamies at zero angle of attack doesnt produce lift. But at a given angle of attack, they do.
Also some of the flat fomies does have the wing attached at a certain angle to the horizontal plane.

Foamybuilder, both U & I are correct...

But, i m still wondering why U said the above quote  :headscratch:

In general any airplane, be it powered/non-powered etc. requires airflow over the wing surface so that it produces lift  for flight to happen & for that, thrust should be > drag and lift > gravity {:)}  .This is when the aircraft has good enough forward motion...achieved with the help of a power plant(engine+prop)/source/been towed (non-powered a/c) by another power-plant or airplane.

agustinev, no doubt all forces acting on an airplane have to be balanced in order to achieve flight...I have tried to explain someone here in very simple terms what is needed for an a/p to takeoff/fly. Coz someone here said and i quote.."we should never use motor power for take off, we should let wings do its job"...and the discussion was limited to an incident in which somebody crashed his new RC plane just after take off i guess, for reasons unknown. None of us was interested in being too technical about it (there was no need to be).
Plz care to go thru this thread and shed some light on the above mentioned quote if you dnt mind. Again... here we are talking about RC's only :)

chao.

foamybuilder

@vector
I think I should have quoted  "we should never use motor power ONLY for take off". What I meant was when we hand lauch, we should not launch it at an angle near to high alpha, where wings wont be producing lift, only motor thrust will be just dragging it in that direction. If it is a maiden flight, and if motor doesnt have enough thrust, and we launch at that angle it will b a disaster.

Vector

Well said foamybuilder, i was expecting that.
It is always a good idea to launch in a straight line creating better airflow over wings=better control. Unless, we are skilled enough and the plane has enough power to pull itself out of an unwanted situation (higher angle of attack during launch and less airspeed resulting in a power-on stall....ouch!!).
As you may know many 3d people simply like to release them off their fingers and let motor do its job... and i love to do it too >:D

cheers.
