Very interesting topic  {:)}

Wonder what kind of thrust can be obtained from these  :headscratch:

PC cooling fan motors are typically rated at 1-2 W at 12V. This will tell one that there is really nothing, practically, you can do with them.

Well thats true.but they cost around 50 bucks !
they run at pretty gud
speed n have gud air circulating capacity.
If the plastic case is carefully
removed keeping sm to mount the motor i wondor
how much will they weight.

They are swinging pretty big props ;)

Wonder if they can be used (even if in twin rotor config) to fly some disposable plate planes  :headscratch:

This has a list of alternate fans commonly found.

Looks like people are using the prop, and replacing the motor, proving Sushil's point :)  Still wondering what the possibilities are, in a Plantraco world.

Just opened my cpu
cabinet.
Both the cpu fan
n the extra cooling fan
dc BL
rated 12v dc
0.2 A

Quoterated 12v dc
0.2 A

That's 2.4 watts max. Also, it would not be easy to vary the speed, I would think.

they have 3 wires like brushless motors[they are brushless-most of them] so they can be used with a esc
am i right??

you are better off using rewound cd rom motors - there is enough
information on the net to sink a ship

with summer approaching you can use the cooling fan motors
to blow a cool breeze in your direction - while you sweat out the rewinding
process .... ;D

hi ankur,
basically these fans are meant for cooling the pc or anyother equipment with constant flow of air where these fans rotate at constant speed ,as you said these are brushless but not directly 12v supply is given to a small tiny board inside the motor which converts 12vdc into ac just like ESC ,but they will have less poles compared to normal rc BL motor's
but one thing the fans fitted(propeller) can be used they have good  aerodynamic properties! but to rotate at gud speed u need gud BL motor !

To increase thrust you need more  money! But to reduce weight you  need nothing!
