Can someone explain what is ESC timing?
also how does this impact motor performance ie Speed?
How can the ESC timing be changed?
I have been following a few boat threads on other forums and often a mention of timing changes and improvement of speed.

The timing can be advanced and will yield slightly greater power but at the cost of greater heat and slightly lower runtime. The timing can be advanced both on motors and ESCs.
The ESC timing can be changed via a programming card or via USB interface. On a few brushed motors, timing is advanced mechanically.
This is seen in car ESCs as well. Its called turbo mode by some.(turbo mode is for ESC timing).
Timing can be turned down to lower temperatures and extend battery life slightly at the cost of performance.
From brushless motors and ESC's.
Higher timing results in higher RPM and faster battery discharge.
If you are using an in-runner which has fewer poles you should use low timing, if you are using an out-runner which usually has more poles then you should use high timing. This is what i was told :-\

Hope this will clear your confusion.
this makes it fairly clear to me now. Thanks guys.
thanx from me too
motors get faster even when throttle is at fixed position in quadcopter......quattro esc kk 2.1.5....can anyone help
