Hi all,
I just managed to complete the build of Mr MOSS bought recently. However, when I connected the components as:
1. Battery to ESC via JST connector extension.
2. ESC to motor (I am still confused about the sequence of connection, because ESC has leads marked motor 1, motor 2, motor 3 - all black, while the motor has 3 leads, red, black and yellow in that order.) I connected Motor 1 to RED, Motor 2 to BLack and Motor 3 to Yellow.
3. ESC to receiver (via an extension cable)
4. Both servos to receiver.
I hope the above connections are correct. :headscratch:
When I connect the battery to the ESC, there is no life in the setup. There is no response to the any commands given by the TX.. It is completely lifeless... I am not sure why and how? :help: :help: :help:
I checked the battery, it is fully charged. Tried all the above 3 / 4 times over... :banghead:
I am totally clueless as to what could be the problem. The connections are so simple and straight. Can anyone please throw some light??
Hi Shrikant, I am also beginner in RC but I think you should check the direction of cable connecting ESC to RX ie signal and power. Once your system gets power you can change the direction of rotation of motor by changing any two connections (Motor 1 to RED, Motor 2 to BLack and Motor 3 to Yellow)
Can you post more details (like model numbers) of the setup (especially the ESC and receiver). Include things like what transmitter you are using also. The connection itself is OK, at least you should get some response. You need to be mindful about the connection from ESC to receiver not being reversed and so on. Typically the ESC should make some beeping noises when the battery is connected.
Please post some pictures also.
Check the Polarity of your all you connections of the ESC to the receiver , battery to ESC Servos to receiver etc .
This is the most likely cause . normally the negative black has to be to the right of the center pin on the receiver and Signal ( white ) has to be to the left of the center pin.
I know you should know this but just in case

In addition to what Sai said....
Does the ESC do the self test on battery connection? I guess, there should be a beep when ESC is armed. You can possibly disconnect the motor connection (keep them insulated anyway). If there is a BEC with the ESC then for testing purposes, it should be connected to the power connector of the receiver and not the throttle....

Since you say the power system is dead I assume there is no beep.
I wish to add in most receivers just 1 connection with Wrong Polarity is enough to kill the receiver hence after that even if you connect it any number of times the receiver will be dead .

Sure.. I was to call you on Friday for that... By the way, I have taken the receiver from the Cessna and put it on Mr Moss now... Coming a full circle since my first post on this forum. I have in mind to make some "jugaad" on both the models, such that I can interchange the receiver anytime and fly any one of them...

I guess, I was lucky. When I was first trying to fit the BEC into the receiver, I did not know how to connect the bec to the receiver, so I did try out connecting one way and another and it did not blow my RX.

??? Yeah.. there is no beep at all... there was never a beep.. I hope the receiver is not really "dead"... In that case it shall be the first casualty up my learning curve...
By the way, if the polarity is so critical, isn't there a standard system in receivers, like a notch or a groove (like in connectors) or something that can prevent such mishaps?
Well Srikant, since there never was a beep, then I guess the first thing for you to do before you team up with Sandeep is to get hold of a multimeter and figure out if the BEC is actually providing the voltage in the first place.

It is there for Futaba receivers and servos (not sure if is there for every Futaba model). Lots of times we have to cut (or file out) the extra notch to get the same servo connection to be inserted into other receivers.
See the attached image (taken from http://www.ultimaterc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103686). The bottom most servo connector has a "projected notch".
Also, I am not sure if reversal frequently causes the receiver to die. What I have seen in our field is that people make that mistake every once in a while, but they have escaped unscathed.

ESC 20 amp
servo 9 grm +2
battery 1000mah
Futaba 6exap with 146iP receiver
my problem is when i connect battery connector to ESC and switch on TX, the motor start beeping and both the servo gets moving ? :banghead:
can any one throw some light for me plz :help:

These are 100 % issues related to the radio :
1) Check if you have elevon or v tail mix on in your tx.
2) As for the motor beeping probably your throttle is on reverse .
BTW have you set the max and min points of throttle on your ESC ?
You got it wrong you have to turn the Tx on before connecting the battery to the receiver ;D

For electrics on Futaba, channel 3 (throttle channel) has to be changed from "normal" to "reverse".

Hmmm.... I have a multimeter which I bought as a part of my ethusiastic first round of tools and tacklets shopping.. :giggle:
Is there any ideal voltage? or it is just that there has to be a voltage.
By the way, the set up is 7.4 V 850 mAH battery, 18 Amp ESC, 2805-1400 kV brushless motor, (supplied as a part of Mr MOSS kit) and Cirrus make - 4 channel FM, 27mhz, transmitter and receiver, and 2 nos. CS-09 servos. (from my previous electric RTF Wattage Cessna 180)
Have you checked the receiver is working or not. You can plug-in the servos without connecting the motor and see whether the servos are working or not? To see whether the BEC of the ESC is working or not you can check by connecting an external individual 4.8 to 6 volt battery to the Rx. You can also check the output voltage of the BEC with a multimeter.

Finally managed to get the Power system up and running ;D Thanks to Sandeep... :salute: Online phone support helped...
Actually I had reversed the polarities as all of you had predicted. Thank you guys.. {:)} {:)} However luckily i didnt konk off the receiver... Actually I had tried reversing the polarities earlier as well, but at that time what I was doing was only reversing the ESC polarity, leaving the servos unchanged. The key was reversing all the polarities... thereafter it was routine channel reversals...
Shall maiden the plane on Saturday after giving some finishing touches today.. 2010 shall be up to a "flying" start...
