I am new to this forum. I was looking to build an RC car. I have made a rough sketch of the same and was deciding on the various cost involved.
The main part that confuses me is in the selection of motors. I find a lot of guides on how to choose brushless motors for quads, planes and all. I would be glad if anyone could please guide on what kV rating motor am I supposed to choose for the RC Car. I understand that I would need a lower kV (High torque, low speed) but any numbers would be better.

The main issue with your problem is determining rpm and torque, the drive train can handle. Lot of more questions need to be answered to get an optimum solution. Some are 1] total weight of car 2]Max tire rpm 3] Max speed of car 4] Low end speed.
I would suggest, get your car within average specifications of already built production cars. That will give your build an approximation of the right components that are needed.

And as you mentioned, determining the torque and rpm is main problem. The weight, top speed, accleration required are all variables but any way of determining the torque/rpm/power with formulae..?
A little math would have helped me a lot. Buying a 980kV(low rpm & high torque), testing it... burning it.. then another choice... all doesn't seem the right choice...
