Divay - Please file a cyber crime case against him, if your time permits.  Believe it or not, cyber crimes carry some of the toughest penalties our country has, much worse than many other serious crimes.  And conviction rate is also very very high, as evidence is easy to gather.

And good job that you retrieved the money, it is a lesson for others on how to do risky business.  It would be good if you provide some details on the same.

Finally, great that you got it up him  (pardon my language, but that is the only way I could behave within self imposed rules).

Thanks Anwar....

For sure I am going to get him... I wil file a cyber crime the proceedings of the same will be available on the forum for all to see and pursue

Since I presumed that this guy was an imposter here was my action plan...

I went ahead and transfered money from my A/c to my wife's A/c (the same amt)
took a screen shot and edited it with the imposters A/C details.... and sent him a screenshot of the same  basis which he sent me the courier....

The reason why I did this were two:
1. When I asked him that someone known to me will come and collect the goods from him he said that would not be possible.... and started to ignore the sale....
2.  Augustine was also promised the goods at the same time as me....we guys spoke to each other and smelt something fishy....

My plan was that if the guy is true I will transfer the money ASAP to him...

Crazy that he didnt even bother to check his account, and plus why did he send the courier at all ?

rajaram

guys we have to be cautious about our dealings and have to take up the guidelines set by admin
more seriously
It is best that you post at least one very recent photo of the item in your hand, so that people may see the actual condition of the item. If you are posting (or linking to) pictures of the item in brand new condition taken from web, please make it explicitly clear that it is a picture from elsewhere.

I would still recommend a step further to post a video of the products at for such items
( self Shot ones )

Did you guys speak to him ? Does he sound like an Adult ? His acts looks too juvenile and kiddish. If you guys have his no, it would much much easier for cops to nail him down.

What the :o I almost missed this thread.
I think only regular members should be allowed to post in "for sale" thread, like someone who has at least 100 posts or something like that.

Nope, a maliciously intentioned person can play within the rules to con any system.  It is your own vigilance that helps, in the form of a few simple rules.

Be sure to ask for a mobile phone number, insist on pictures of the actual item, insist on sending money to bank accounts or Paypal verified addresses etc.

Finally, if anything sounds too good to be true, it typically is !  The only exception is when a well trusted member with lots of contacts and history on the forum (or someone you know in person also knows this person) posts a "too good to be true deal" (for example, "Sujju" has posted some great deals).

I was shown and offered an original iPhone 4 while in China for RMB1000 (Rs.7100 or so), and when I hesitated, the next offer was for RMB400.  I walked away immediately, because "it was too good to be true". I assumed it would either be stolen, or I would be offered a fake item. I heard from friends later that the modus operandi of such folks is to switch the phone at the last moment, while you are taking your money out and concentrating on the wallet.  The chances are 50-50, that you will check the phone again, and if you did, they would run away.

Also, as our community grows, I urge everyone to use the Trader Feedback option in the user profiles.  This needs to be done by both the buyer and the seller.  This builds a "web of trust", and is the at the heart of functioning of sites like eBay.

i was skeptical of this trader feedback thing, wrote to anwar bbhai as well, i guess i was wrong. i think ebay like feedback system is required and to be checked before dealing, of course for this the community needs to grow a little in terms of age and size. whatsay?  :)

This is what I recommened to Anwar long back!

Copy pasting the same here:

Sorry for Change in topic:

Anwar can we have it compulsory to post few pics with the sale? If there is no pic, then the thread should be blocked.

I remember that on computer sites like erodov/techenclave, the seller is supposed to take a photo of the item he is selling along with a slip on which his login ID / Current date is hand written kept beside the product. This ensures that the pic is displaying the product with the latest date (in other terms latest condition) and since there is a login ID written on the slip, it indicates that the product belongs to him and he is not showing someone else's product pic stolen from the internet.

Also it should be the sellers responsibility to make sure that the product reaches the buyer safely. Since it all depends on the type of packaging that the seller does many of the times. Its never a Buyers mistake if the product reaches in a wrong condition unless the buyer opted for an ultra cheap shipping. (I still remember my friend receiving a bent grafix card worth 9000 rs, because the seller packed it carelessly.)

Also it is good if the person mentions Age(if not used, then the shelf age), Original price(Optional), Shipping price (to all over India if possible), details of the engine - servos etc, number of flights done. etc Coz the buyer has every right to know all these.

Sorry buzz_rc for High jacking your thread.  But one day it is inevitable that we will be in both the buyer as well as sellers place.   Iam just telling this so that all transaction happens successfully and all are happy at the end. And I also see that in most of the for-sale threads, the first post will be, "Can you please post a pic?"

dinil

found fishy seeing the pic and the price
somebody trying to make free money.
but why did he send the envelope

vinay

To provide a tracking number. This way people will transfer money.  ;)

deepikarun

Hi Divay,

Although what you have done(the manipulation of bank transaction detail) seems right today, isn't what you have done is also cheating ?

Everybody is aware that the seller ships the item only on receipt of the agreed amount in his account. Here what has happened is that the seller never received the money although you had send him the fake transaction detail and in no way obliged to send the item.

Now the big question is why did he send an envelope with a blank page thus revealing his address ????? He could have very well remained silent.

I presume that this could be a tit for tat situation where the hunter has become the prey.

;) Just my thought.
