Was interested in 2 Ltrs of Nitro Methane even four Ltrs are OK but not all 6 Ltrs. 6 Ltrs of mixed Glow fuel lasts me more than an year  :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:. 6 Ltrs of Nitro is 40 Ltrs of Mixed Fuel that will last my Lifetime  ;D.  All my Glow Flying is mostly 1/2 A to 0.15 some 0.25 Size rarely more than 0.46.

PM me if you change your mind.

When people approach old age, they can't differentiate between 5 and 6.

Regards,

Someone who has already reached old age and refuses to accept it.

Gentlemen, on both sides of the ponds  ;), I need some advise.

Does Nitromethane have a short/long shelf life. Normally, I don't use Nitro but I have atleast 4 engines which are old and play bad at lower throttles so might need some nitro. i was thinking if I could get hold of a little stock. I know one fine day I will wake up deciding only to fly nitros (till another wake up for electrics) and will be running around for a can then... :o

Help appreciated.

If properly packed so it doesn't absorb moisture can keep for a year. But if your carb is messed up then nitromethane won't help :D :D

Girish
I Know of guys who do not use nitro at all, having said that for smaller engines a little nitro is in order sending them is the issue, if you need some do PM.

Well..... I been using up .60 cu in Glow engines and used Nirto Methane juat a few times... i.e. when doing some show flying and you need that extra kick from the engine..... or else used just Methanol and Castrol oil as fuel..... nothing else i.e. no additives as a routine

Dear friend,
You may use commercially available petrol fuel additives available at the petrol pumps.  Just buy any one and use as directed.  This will ensure your fuel burns better at lower power settings and all goes well.  These additives also help better fuel burn and cleaning of the engine and you do not need to do the after flying engine cleaning which is mandatory when using nitro methane
happy flying...

Thank you everyone

Gusty sir, I still have a lot of time and practice left before I reach the extra punch level :D just that the engines cut off at low throttles (and Sanjay sir is correct, I definitely need a new carb). Only the first two cans I ever burnt had nitro. But these engines are almost vintage, no parts available...so I thought some nitro might help.

Thanks Shobit, I will try to some fuel additives. I also read somewhere that Acetone helps idling at lower throttles but havent tried that.

Apologies gaurang for derailing your sale thread...back to the original point...guys we have some nitromethane up for sale...

Hi Gaurang,

The nitro is of which brand? I mean is it from Mayura chemicals or qualikem or ranchem etc?

Shobhit ji: Can you please specify the petrol additives? I thought these additives must be specifically blended for gasoline only.

Dear Doctor.... well I use Elf petrol and diesel... they can be blended with the fuel we use for these engines too...

I think they blend only with petrol n diesel. Nothing for methanol.

well doctor... I am telling with experience.. been doing it for roughly 8 years now... Diesel engine in Aeromodelling measn engine which use a mixture of Either, Kerosine and Castor oil as fuel... and the Elf Disel additive in the market is a good thing to use.  Similarly petrol engine for aeromodelling means an engine which uses either petrol or Methanol + Castor oil as fuel..  Use the commercially available petrol engine additive for the engine....  Correctly speaking a Diesel engine is an engine which does not require outside support for ignition of fuel and only the heat generated by compression is sufficient to achieve ignition of fuel.  Similarly a petrol engine is one which needs a spark plug or a glow plug to give the heat to achieve ignition of fuel...  Yes Methanol of also a hydrocarbon compound.

Hey Gaurang.... there is just no need to use what you call the finer brand of Methanol... what the chemist gives you is probably the commercial type only.  because the finer brands are known as Analytical Reagent used for research purposes.... and it is a HELL lot costlier than the commercially available one... up to 10 to 25 times more costly.  You may do a check at the local Chemical supply store to universities and hospitals for the same. So please do not be mislead when someone sells you a finer grade of chemicals.  They are at the most up to the quality of Laboratory reagent.

Shobit - judging by your post -

1. you have not handled a glow engine

2. "Finar" as posted by Gaurang seems to be a brand name and does not mean finer
     i.e - of more purity.

3. You seem to be a decent repository of aeromodelling knowledge - try to refrain from
mixing your facts with assumptions. Additives for petrol engines are not used nor recommended
nor practical for glow engines. If there are any additives that you have used which have shown
good results in glow engines - pls say brand name - I mean first hand use and not assumptions or heresay

And people have added water. ..

I take the point on increased compression and latent heat and carbon steamblasting, at least theoretically

PS sorry for hijacking your thread again but this discussion is getting interesting
