How can the model be termed so if it does not perform the function it is meant to do? The ultimate test is how it works. This is an RC competition, not a static model competition

No, I mean to say that a beginner must have electronics in order to fly his plane. He can show his airplanes like arfs without electronics. Opon winning the sweepstakes he can install electronics and fly the plane merrily.

I am building a chuck glider.

Nope.  While what you say makes some sense, this activity is meant to force people to build a craft that functions.  If anyone wins, they can use the money to build a second plane.

Chuck gliders, while they are a critical part of the hobby, cannot be deemed serious unless they can remain airborne for something like 30 seconds. We want people to put in some serious effort (even though putting together an ARF is  probably easier than building a proper chuck glider).  I am more concerned about people misusing the rules.

To clarify this, we will not allow static models at all.  They have to be RC.

Ok then i will have to borrow some electronics...

What about towed gliders?

I guess the previous post is specific enough.  RC is a must.

You can build a glider that is not powered, but it has to fly by RC.

Quote from original post of 14th March:
5.  The final product should do its intended purpose, with reasonable stability. For aircraft, that means it should fly, for cars, they should run, etc. This must be supported by video evidence, with a single continuous shot of the model in closeup first, and then moving into action / flight.

While this excludes static models, nowhere was it specified that RC is a must

My INDORE TLG1 may now stand disqualified...

So, is mine... but my model is a bigger one.
I can manage to convert it to rc.

I don't want to be hyper vigilant about this.  My concern is that people are going to cut 3 or 4 pieces of balsa, and start posting "Model 1 for Sweepstakes", "Model 2 for sweepstakes" and so on, in a way that games (or undermines) the sanctity of the whole thing. More-over, we do not want people who put in serious effort to feel marginalized or disadvantaged (is there such a word?!?!?).

As for me coming up with rules, I am learning as I go. You are as good as me in coming up with those.  My thought is always that it is not the prize that matters, but the effort is the reward.

However, for the sake of clarity, I will make it clear that the crafts have to be RC, and one person cannot submit two models that are "too similar".  I know there is some ambiguity at what is "too similar", but I think people will get the idea, and I will play Idi Amin on this if needed :(

I will accept your TLG as a one off case.

@Anwar Sir,
Aah, but you judge me too harshly...
Too old for 'games', just enthusiastic about aeromodelling in general and RCI in particular.
Certainly not in 'stick 3-4 pieces of balsa and start posting' category...

Just happy that this sweepstakes business has managed to start (in VC's words) a building frenzy.
And that i have been able to persuade 1 or 2 to join in...

My Two cents.

I personally feel this sweepstakes should not be restricted to RC only, instead we can put some checkpoints for powered free flight and TLG/DLG/HLGs like flight timings reasonable stability and perfect trims.

Also free flight is much tougher than RC unless the build is perfect and the plane is well trimmed for controls but anyone can make a nose heavy/tail heavy plane to fly with RC.

This Sweepstakes for this year is almost nearing its end and changing the rules might be inappropriate. but the admin(our beloved Idi Amin) could consider this for next year..

7.  Kit builds of helis and cars will get 3x chances to win.

8.  Scratch/kit builds of airplanes and boats will get 5x chances to win.

Just a clarification, since cars is not mentioned in the scratch/kit builds.

I scratch built a car, so will my build be getting 5x or 3x chances?
