Dear all -
We have just passed 5 years of existence, and the milestone of 10000 members (despite the spammers we detected and deleted!). Thank you all for brightening up some part of every day of my life for the past 5 years, and I am sure many of you feel the same when you visit RC India.
As a payback, we will be conducting another set of sweepstakes to commemorate the occasion.
We will have two winners this time. The price is going to be two :Rs: 20,000 shopping sprees, each at one of the leading local hobby stores in India, namely RCDhamaka and RCBazaar. The prize money is coming out of the payments from Google Adsense ads on top of the RC India, so it is self paid.
The general conditions are :
1. The build and maiden should between 9th March 2014 and 10am on 15 May 2014.
2. This has to be a new build, as documented by newspapers placed near the starting off material for the build. Please post multiple pictures allowing us to clearly authenticate the date claims (at least couple of pics with the items and newspaper, with the newspaper placed at multiple locations amongst the parts, and one with the date information on the news paper clearly shown). We will consider partial builds at very early stages, on a case by case basis (so that this sweepstakes act as a catalyst for people to finish those builds).
3. Each submission should be presented as a NEW build thread in the appropriate board, with the tag that this is a candidate entry into the sweepstakes.
4. Periodic / intermediate stage pics should be posted, again with newspaper verification, at least 3 times during the course of the entire build.
5. The final product should do its intended purpose, with reasonable stability. For aircraft, that means it should fly, for cars, they should run, etc. This must be supported by video evidence, with a single continuous shot of the model in closeup first, and then moving into action / flight.
Judging etc :
6. ARF builds of airplanes, boats and quads will get 1x chance to win. I am not aware of ARF build for cars, so that is out (correct me if I am wrong).
7. Kit builds of helis and cars will get 3x chances to win.
8. Scratch/kit builds of airplanes and boats will get 5x chances to win.
9. If you are building something exquisite that does not fit into any of the above, will be considered as they are raised, and we will update this post to list those.
10. We may adjust the chance multipliers based on the merits of each build, if we strongly feel the need for that.
11. Although people suggested using a voting system to find the winners, I see multiple problems with it. For now, let us keep this simple. It will also allow every member except me to participate.
12. [UPDATE] The models have to be radio controlled, but they can unpowered (like slope soaring gliders). No static models, and if you are submitting multiple entires, the models have to be dissimilar.
So... happy building every one !
Once again, thank you and we look forward to many more years of keeping this passion alive :)
UPDATE 1 : There will be another :Rs: 12,000 "youngster prize" for someone who is below 19 years of age. That is, people who are have not celebrated their 19th birthday yet as on May 15, 2014. This price was sponsored by a forum member who prefers to remain anonymous for the sum of 10K, and the the owner of RCForAll added 2K to it as the winner will be shopping from this store. Thank you both.
Got a REAL SHOCK.
Have to build all night tonight to get it ready by 10am tomorrow.
Was going to complain to Anwar sir about such short notice.
Only on the second read saw the deadline was not 15th Mar, but May.
Thank God for small mercies. Now we can try to catch up with Sanjay sir. ;D
Congrats Anwar great going .
Getting back to forum after a long time. Been Busy with too many projects in hand.
Let me know if we can help in any way.

Would like to build sail boat static model would it be a considered?
In the interest of being fair to everyone, I feel that it is best that we strictly follow condition #5. Hopefully the effort to convert it to RC is manageable.
Ok.:hatsoff:
Congratulations Anwar and RC India. :)
All the best my dear friends.!
Proud to be a part of such a wonderful forum !!!!!!!
Thank you Anwar Saab and RcIndia :hatsoff:
Congratulations..... to everyone here and specially Mr Anwar..... Best wishes and safe and happy flying to all...
Believe it or not but many of us must be using Rcindia more Facebook etc like I do :D
Thanks for the wonderful experience . Rcindia is part of our life now .
We got to open new threads of the builds right? or do we put our build logs here?

What about Scratch built DIY RC tank ( localized parts ) can it be considered part of sweepstakes :)
Missed all you guys tooo much :'( RCINDIAAAAAA ;D
Would have to miss this due to my boards but just let them to get over,i have so many ideas in my head :giggle:
Best of luck to all the participants and warm regards to all the members of rcindia
Bumping this thread :)
Looking at the activity on the forum for the past two weeks, which has been overwhelmingly creative/positive, it seems like we should have some kind of sweepstakes every month or couple of months ! Now most of the threads are related to hardcore modeling/RC/building

Yes this would be great for scratch builders....
What can be a suitable alternative to a Newspaper for the date formalities?
I am held up for more than a week due to lack of Newspaper and related formalities. ;D. Now I have to go searching for one each time especially for this since I have stopped subscribing to it this Year.

Ownership of paper not compulsory. Borrowed will do. ;D

Newspaper Borrowed. ;D. My neighbors will think "Paisa Bacha raha hai Kanjoos" :giggle:
PS : Parents are with me for a month and everything has slowed down to give them time. Nonavailability of Newspaper was just an excuse. I need to Catch Up.
No. That's not what they'll think.
Since you'll only ask for OLD papers...

What can be a suitable alternative to a Newspaper for the date formalities?
If you can show the "Recent Posts" list on the top of RC India on a suitable device (smartphone or pad) kept near the model, and the screen itself being legible enough to make the dates readable without any ambiguity, that would suffice too.
That's a great idea Anwar Bhai. Thanks.
Congratulations all fellow RC Indians. Great job done anwar Sahab..... Cheers !!!!!
Anwar sir,
scratch-built hovercrafts, ornithopters and bikes are eligible too as long as they are radio controlled, right?
Just to make sure. (Not that anyone has a chance against Iyyer sirs' air squadron!)

The money has already been transferred by the sponsor to the store, and it is waiting for the winner :) The youngsters should all build multiple models to maximize their chances to win !
Thank you both.
Quick question : Are DIY multirotor builds allowed ? DO they also get 5x chances , like airplanes ?
What exactly is "DIY" for quads ? Are you going to solder the board ? If not, it is like an ARF build, and the initial post in this thread should apply.
Dear Admin,
I put in my thread of the "1:24 MAN crawler" but I put the heading as "can it be considered for the sweepstakes" could I change that to "5th anniversary sweepstakes entry"
Please let me know.
the link to my build is http://www.rcindia.org/cars/124-scale-man-crawler-build-%28can-it-be-considered-for-the-sweepstakes%29/?topicseen (http://www.rcindia.org/cars/124-scale-man-crawler-build-%28can-it-be-considered-for-the-sweepstakes%29/?topicseen)
CF
By DIY, I did not refer to doing the control board. No one builds recievers or servos for airplanes anyways.
A DIY multi rotor would be where no readymade arms, or central frame is used. Where one designs a frame himself, cuts it out to assemble.
In my opinion a ARF multi rotor is when someone buys a kit from HK , or perhaps the arms and the board, and bolts it all together.
A DIY build would be if someone uses Wooden sticks, or aluminum, or CF arms, and cuts out the frame himself to make it all work and fly.
Let me know if something like this would be acceptable.
This is exactly why I asked :)
Building a frame alone, especially for a quad is not that involved (having done that myself, just dremel out half the thickness of centre portion of two balsa sticks... is one way), so a 5x multiple seems to be unfair to others.
We can do more than 1x multiple depending on the effort. Plus the reward is always the work itself, as you know very well :)
Sounds good ! Helping this kid here post up his build logs !
Thanks anwar.

@Anwar
Planning to build a RC Skydiver. For The sweepstakes I will be testing it by releasing it from a tall building, say 13th floor, and not from a rc plane. The RC Skydiver will need lots of tuning of the angle of attack of the parachute before it can jump off the RC Plane. Secondly it will need a drop plane and a pilot for the drop plane -another big project and building a team to pull it through. Is this OK and fit into the rules?
Don't worry about anything else, just enjoy building.

Bump for the part quoted above ! Hope more youngsters take up the challenge and put the old timers to shame with their creations :)
I have people contacting me about the number of entries they can make. I thought that is clear from point #3 on the original post, that multiple entries (as many as one can) are acceptable (even preferred). And your chances increase too.
Can more than 1 models be built? :)
 read the above post...
Deep breaths :)
KiranRC - Please read "Reply #40" and tell me what you understood from that.
Sorry for that silly question. ;D ;D
Didn't realise that UNBOXING is an activity.
Presumably has some minor weightage in sweepstakes.
I am under 19 ( I am 16 years old) . Please count me in under 19 category. I cannot compete with legends like Sanjay sir Iyer sir and VC sir. :banghead: :giggle:
Please can we skip rule no. 5??
Are you going to build a plane that moves in water, or a car that flies or a boat that moves on land ?
Absolutely not. What is the point in doing all this otherwise ?
No, I mean to say that a beginner must have electronics in order to fly his plane. He can show his airplanes like arfs without electronics. Opon winning the sweepstakes he can install electronics and fly the plane merrily.
I am building a chuck glider.
How can the model be termed so if it does not perform the function it is meant to do? The ultimate test is how it works. This is an RC competition, not a static model competition
Quote from: topalle on April 27, 2014, 02:19:17 PM

Nope. While what you say makes some sense, this activity is meant to force people to build a craft that functions. If anyone wins, they can use the money to build a second plane.
Chuck gliders, while they are a critical part of the hobby, cannot be deemed serious unless they can remain airborne for something like 30 seconds. We want people to put in some serious effort (even though putting together an ARF is probably easier than building a proper chuck glider). I am more concerned about people misusing the rules.
To clarify this, we will not allow static models at all. They have to be RC.
Ok then i will have to borrow some electronics...
What about towed gliders?
I guess the previous post is specific enough. RC is a must.
You can build a glider that is not powered, but it has to fly by RC.
Ok then thanks for the clarification.
@Anwar sir

While this excludes static models, nowhere was it specified that RC is a must
My INDORE TLG1 may now stand disqualified...
So, is mine... but my model is a bigger one.
I can manage to convert it to rc.
I don't want to be hyper vigilant about this. My concern is that people are going to cut 3 or 4 pieces of balsa, and start posting "Model 1 for Sweepstakes", "Model 2 for sweepstakes" and so on, in a way that games (or undermines) the sanctity of the whole thing. More-over, we do not want people who put in serious effort to feel marginalized or disadvantaged (is there such a word?!?!?).
As for me coming up with rules, I am learning as I go. You are as good as me in coming up with those. My thought is always that it is not the prize that matters, but the effort is the reward.
However, for the sake of clarity, I will make it clear that the crafts have to be RC, and one person cannot submit two models that are "too similar". I know there is some ambiguity at what is "too similar", but I think people will get the idea, and I will play Idi Amin on this if needed :(
I will accept your TLG as a one off case.
@Anwar Sir,
Aah, but you judge me too harshly...
Too old for 'games', just enthusiastic about aeromodelling in general and RCI in particular.
Certainly not in 'stick 3-4 pieces of balsa and start posting' category...
Just happy that this sweepstakes business has managed to start (in VC's words) a building frenzy.
And that i have been able to persuade 1 or 2 to join in...
My Two cents.
I personally feel this sweepstakes should not be restricted to RC only, instead we can put some checkpoints for powered free flight and TLG/DLG/HLGs like flight timings reasonable stability and perfect trims.
Also free flight is much tougher than RC unless the build is perfect and the plane is well trimmed for controls but anyone can make a nose heavy/tail heavy plane to fly with RC.
This Sweepstakes for this year is almost nearing its end and changing the rules might be inappropriate. but the admin(our beloved Idi Amin) could consider this for next year..

What about the results sir
Must be a hard decision . 100's of threads to study !!
I hope the results will be declared soon........
No results yet ???
How long should we wait?
It's lengthy job. Specially since so many entries will get disqualified as they are not complete in all respect to meet the conditions of qualification for the draw. There are so many without a video, or a video of an unsuccessful maiden, date missing etc.
Would my build be disqualified? I posted flying pictures instead of a video as my net was slow...
Waiting for results....
I am ashamed about this delay, and deeply apologize for it. I have some logistical challenges for getting the money to the shops, which I can only do once I get back to India on the 3rd.
What happened?
Seems everyone has forgotten this :headscratch: :headscratch:
Decision must be on final stages i guess ;)
Its a tough job...
I guess next time all the moderators will also take paert in judging...

Winners please contact me with your mobile numbers via PM, so that I can pass the same on to the store officially. You can then work out with the stores directly on choosing items that you want, and pay any additional expenses in case you spend overboard :)
Congrats again to all the winners. If they, for any reason, wish to pass the winnings, or do not respond within 2 weeks, alternates can be picked from the pool of eligible candidates.
And my deepest apologies for delaying this like forever. As you may have noticed, I barely had time to login here for the past 2 to 3 months.
Thank you Anwar bhai! :salute: :salute: :salute: My PM with phone number is on the way!

My sincere thanks to RCIndia and all my fellow modellers. For me it has been a great come back to the hobby after a long long break and my first attempt into electrics. My thanks to my old friend, K K Iyer for asking me to participate in the sweepstakes. In fact, it was his phone call in the morning today that alerted me to check this great news.
Hopefully, once I am back home, I would be able to devote time to the hobby and have fruitfull interactions with the wonderful people on the forum.
Thanks guys and happy and safe flying.

Yesterday I visited RCBazaar and picked up a high wing trainer (the basic frame - Rs 4700) and parts for a hexacopter excluding the battery and controller. This exhausted the Rs 20,000 which I had won in the 5th Anniversary sweepstakes.
I am thankful to RCIndia for giving me an opportunity to explore multirotors. The trainer will be useful as I have not flown for a long long time and help me to revive my flying skills.
:thanks:
cool! i bought a thunder tiger kt8 go kart and a lipo for it! :D
Sir what happened to this years sweepstakes. Have a couple of designs in mind just holding back for the sweepstakes.
I think it starts around April sometime......when you have exams :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:
My exams ae ending on 26th of this month hehehehe.
Sir, no sweepstakes this year ????
I am leaving to my native place on 15th and till then I am free so I can fly and make models.
Truly sorry, was consumed with work and travel. Will setup and announce something soon.
No news yet?
Eagerly awaiting this year's sweepstakes...
Yes EAGERLY

Hahaha 😂
😈 :)
Android keyboard shortcuts smileys while adding fresh dimensions to the emotions expressed in the forum seems is also adding confusions to the expressed emotion. 😇
Ah well, no reply from Anwar. Guess there must be some issue or challenges.
Well, I have lined up the resources... not sure what type of competition and rules should be this time around.
Repeat exactly like last time ?
Suggestions ?
Yes! You can keep the same rules.
Same rules, Same Prizes would be fair.
yup.. would love to make an awesome quad if i win
please keep the same rules
