there is quite a huge difference in the two engines....

lets check them out one by one.

OS 65 AX:
1>Displacement 0.65 cu in. (10.6 cc)
2>Bore 0.95 in. (24 mm)
3>Stroke 0.93 in. (23.5 mm)
4>Practical rpm 2,500–16,000
5>Power output 2.0 hp @ 16,000

6>AX is a ball bearing engine with twin bearing supported crank shaft, Needless to say that it will produce mo power,
7> it is a bit heavier than LA, considering its bearing and quality construction
8> metallurgy is good compared to LA and has a chrome plated steel sleeve with aluminium piston.
9> uses 61D carb, with metering needle and a lower end fuel metering needle for smooth lower end running. ( the engine will not four-stroke)
10> high end needle connected to the carb and avoids delays in adjustment
11> new offset counter weight crankshaft to reduce the vibration, and dampen the imbalanced caused by the during the intake passage cutout
12> new designed crankcase and angular head for better cooling
13> has 5 head bolts ( better distribution of load)

OS 65 LA
1> Displacement: 10.85 cc (0.662 cu.in.)
2> Bore: 24.0 mm (0.945 in.)
3> Stroke: 24.0 mm (0.945 in.)
4> Practical R.P.M.: 2,000~16,000 r.p.m.
5> Power output: 1.7 bhp / 16,000 r.p.m.

6> LA is a Bush bearing engine with a single bush supported crankshaft, comparatively lower on performance,
7>it is a bit lighter than AX, considering its bush bearing and slight inferior construction
8> metallurgy is bit inferior compared to AX and has a chrome plated brass sleeve with aluminium piston.
9> uses 60J carb,without metering needle and an air bleed screw for lower end setting. ( the engine will four-stroke at lower RPM)
10> high end needle away from the carb and delays adjustment
11> regular crankshaft
12> conventional crankcase with round off cylinder head
13> has 4 head bolts
14> plastic needle valve assy... chances of breaking during crash easily


all in all a wise decision to go for AX than LA....
1> better performance
2> better life
3> slight tolerance to abuse
4> rotates bigger props
5> higher RPM
6> precise tuning
7> easily replaceable bearings.

disadvantages
1> ball bearing construction.. prolonged storage after use damages the bearings
2> usage of nitro in high quantity corrodes steel bearing(same applies to LA(brass turns green,and sludge is formed) must be cleaned after use)

OS 65AX doesn't have chrome piston liner don't know about LA65

correct me:

AX 65 has a bimetallic liner and LA has nickel-chrome..... ( unlike the hard-chrome old FX/SF engines had)

still correct me if wrong....

Nickel-chrome? Although nickel chrome as a alloy does exist i was not aware that model engines used that in the liner. And all tapered bore engines have bimetallic liners not just the 65AX ABL is just a term OS uses so they can get away without telling us what materials they use for the liner in the publicity blurbs.

And there's no need to be defensive, i'm not here for a argument, i just pointed out that the 65ax doesn't have a chrome plated liner as you had mentioned. Chrome plating is no longer used by main stream manufacturers because of environmental concerns.
