Hello everyone,
I happen to lay my hands on an old two stroke nitro (probably) engine lately, it was lying with one of my seniors for quit some time (for at least 3 years), and he was generous enough to hand it down to me while leaving college for good.
Neways, coming to the point, the engine was in really bad condition and I have tried to repair it a bit, which I'll explain as I go on, but am still unable to identify the engine... it has nothing written on it except India, no number nothing, the engine still needs a couple of parts which I can't find without knowing the exact make and model of the engine. So see if someone could identify this engine and tell me its make and model no, or probably point me to the vendor's website or something.

Pardon me for the quality of the pics, this is all i could manage with my phone camera

The engine didn't have the backplate and the cylinder head, when it arrived..... they were lateron fabricated using hand tools and metal scraps.

I plan to build a new head and backplate for this engine out of aluminium, just as a fun project, but for that I need technical drawings for it which neither I have nor am I able to locate them on the internet, so its a request from guys here to point me in the correct direction.

also, I understand that it is a reed valve operated engine, but am still unable to figure out where the carburetor is attached in this engine, someone please enlighten me on this.

regards

I think it is old Arora Diesel engine ,its needle should fit on the front ventury, some one tried to convert to glow engine.

Bilal

Arvind Sir,
That someone would be me,  ;D , I didn't know that it was a diesel engine, I just saw the glow plug that it came with and started figuring out a way to fix it.... it didn't come with a head though so identifying it from a glow engine was difficult for a noob like me. Neways thanx for the info..... dose it requires a carb?

who ever screwed that engine will be haunted by Mr.Kumar's ghost....

the head was cut off and contra-piston THROWN away. to accommodate a glow plug.
back plate looks like its just a piece of metal sheet with out the protrusion inside.
backplate wrongly screwed
missing venturi and the air neck

from the insignia on the engine as confirmed above it is a AURORA diesel.

doubt you will find any parts for it. its was out of production for a good 10 yrs if not more.

i have one of similar engines. can send it to you if you want to use it as a reference and make parts. but you dare not screw-up with mine.

Vishvesh, that back plate was made by me, and it dose have the protrusion inside, the central nut you are seeing is there to hold the protrusion. Dunno bout the head though because it was already chopped off, i just tried to mount the supplied glow in it that's it. Just do me a favor, mail me some good quality pics of your engine and its parts, it'll help me fabricate the custom parts for this one.
thanx for popping in and scaring me to death :-D

nice work though not how it is suppose to be..

back plate seems like a simple part but has a big significance. it is responsible to keep up the pressure in the crankcase which is of utmost importance during the suction stroke in the 2-stroke engine

engines wont start. or have erratic running because of a leaky backplate.

i would suggest you to get a piece of aluminium as a whole put it on a lathe and machine it down to perfect dimension. then using an oil paper( or a gasket maker) prepare a gasket and then put it on the engine.

yeah i plan to do the same, this was just a mockup, not the actual part.
BTW, any source of 1 1/3 or 1 1/2 aluminum stock?..... didn't seem to find anything here

you can turn it from ms shafting - a piece of old axle will do

although heavier than alu - the weight difference will not be very much
in the case of the backplate, since you will hollow it out from the back

it does not hold much promise - the aurora diesels were the worst
engines - ( quality control wise) and the only reason they were able to sell
was because of NCC orders and the fact that  nothing else was available in eastern India
in those times.

India Hobby Center is (deservedly) dead - and serve them right for
taking so many beginners for a ride.

Couple of things
The engine that you say has reed valve induction is not. It is shaft valve where the hollow shaft and opening corresponding to the venturi carries the charge from venturi to the case and then through the porting to the combustionn charge.
Finding alu stock wherever you are should not be a big issue. Search and you should find.
The current head clearly shows that who ever did that has no concept of bore and stroke. Does the engine have original cyl, piston and connecting rod along with the gudgeon pin?
And the backplate should be retained by the bolt passing from front to the back through the back plate and then secured using nuts. I don't think the case has threads to take those bolts. And still can not figure out the purpose of the central bolt if you are using the two side ones.
And the original diesel would be very high compression compared to a glow so the head would have to made keeping that in mind.
And you can try getting a NV assembly either from Aurora or failing which you can even put in one from Sharma

"who ever screwed that engine will be haunted by Mr.Kumar's ghost"

Pardon me aerovishva, it was me who screwed the engine ;D ;D ;D

I saw Mr. Ravi Gupta flying diesels in lucknow; I got very keen into diesels and and quiet overconfident too.Actually i loved the simplicity.
When i received engine from you, i spent around 2 weeks of a vacation to disabuse the engine. Finally got frustrated and planned to convert it to glow. And here is the result. ;D ;D.

And,by chance if you happen to meet the Ghost of Mr. Kumar, please request him not to hunt me for revenge, because now the engine lies with Bilal. I hope bilal is good at dealing with specters.

Best wishes bilal
I can take off and fly well. Its landing which sucks :banghead::banghead:
