Can anyone help me with the Toki .15 default tuning settings? Also does it even require high/low speed tuning? I can only see one tune-able screw which adjusts fuel intake!! Any help is appreciated!!

sundaram

That is high speed needle.

Sandy sir, which angle? I struggled starting it...lol

I have seen the video. If have managed to run it then you are expert among us. :)

Thanks Girish! You advice worked wonders!! Still struggling to keep the engine running for beyond 60 seconds!!

1. Height of tank at par with engine - check!!
2. Fuel pipe length 15 cms or less - check!!
3. Priming with glow plug on - check!!

High speed valve tried from 2 to 4 rounds but still no luck...either revs up dry and stalls or flushes and stalls!! Still trying hard though.... Second glow plug in use at the moment...

Man...i'll switch to an electric motor if all this is what it takes!!

Toki piston sleave beds  in only after  few tanks that's what I have heard.  Alow it to bed in first by running it at various Rev starting from low to high before atempting it for peak performance.

It started fine in the last run before my glow igniter's battery died..ran for 60 seconds and responded fine to revs!! Hoping it runs longer in the days to come...

I am just being patient with it till pay day!! Else...electric motor it is...!

Spending 15 minutes to watch it run for a minute and give up on me is too much...my hands are injured and hurt trying to start the damn thing..

sundaram

Electric motor is always there. Inspite of all the fuss and mess an engine is always worth the run.  :)

No no not the glow plug/ignitor, I meant the glow starter, the thing with the motor that attaches to the spinner, the compression is less and these engines are not exactly air tight. It will take you quite some turns to prime it with hand

Yes once started and running, engines are worth the effort

As a beginner i took about a week to make my asp engine running :giggle:.even though the engines are messy I always love to run these than an electric setup.

My overall experience,

- power is ok ok
- this engine must be run rich
- runs better without the muffler
- takes a strong, quick flip to start
- needle has to be richened everytime before start
- adding nitro (1%) made a considerable difference in idling and power(thanks sanjay sir for tornado fuel)
- heavy for a 0.15 size, good for terrain vehicles
- needs heavy priming up, other engines would flood if primed so much
- Atleast 4 tanks (180 ml each) for break in before tuning, first tank, very rich, second 50% throttle rich, third moving between full and zero, final rich again.
- first start needs about 4 turns open
- the wide headed screw on the carb (opposite the throttle linkage) seems to be the LSN, forms a venturi inside the carb, but all in all is uselss. leave it fully tightened/default settings. Also it does not hold its position after about half turn. the vibration on the running engine turns it back
- starting engine when hot is double the work starting when cold.

Let all these points not scare... :D Many people have had success with these engines, this is all my experience.

Finally got the engine running!! The settings that worked for me:

1. The needle valve turned 45 degrees less full two rounds.
2. 50 Cm fuel line on table where tank was placed.
3. Engine on vice about 1 inch high on the same table.

Mentioned the above since the settings were contrary to the ones recommended.

The manual:

Installation and Commissioning of Methanol Engine

Caution: Please clean the internal piston and cylinder once you receive the new engine.
Engine Break-In Oil: methanol: castor oil = 4:1
Engine oil:castor oil 20%, nitro-methane 0% -30%, residual is methane.

Caution: 1. Castor oil needs to be repeatedly filtered, you can use synthetic lubricants as a substitute, in the amount of 16% -25%;
2.It is advised that the novice should not configure their own fuel, but to buy 20% of the finished methanol fuel.

Steps for installing the engine

1.Install the fuel tank

a. Stick through four holes on the black plastic cover, the large piece of metal on the side of the big end ,and small piece on the side of the small end of the plastic cover;
b.Insert three tubes inside the three holes of the plastic cover(not oil pipeline opened, and only two holes on it)., Then equipped with a long screw into them (not on too tight, too tight plastic cover will not fit into the tank).,
c. Bending the longest aluminium tubes about 70 degrees, and then keep the white hose connected to the shorter one in two aluminium tubes, the another hose connect to a heavy iron, and finally plug the black plastic cover into the fuel tank, tighten, and then the fuel tank is now installed.

Caution: (1). The fuel tank noticed above have three aluminium tubes, the bent one is connected to the exhaust pipe, the aluminium tubes with heavy iron is connected to the engine, and the last one is used to refuel, and now the oil-way is installed.
(2). the fuel tank should keep parallel to the engine throttle.

2. Debug of the engine

1. Before the launch of the engine , you should make sure the igniter has enough electricity at first, the new igniter should be fully discharged before charging, charging is not allowed at the first time you get it, which is harmful to it's lifecycle and quality, charging for about 3-5 hours, the power's consumption is amazing, if you keep it inserted in the engine when charging, the power will be used up in 5 minutes , and then you should recharge it again.

Caution: To avoid memory effect , please don't charge the ignition before the power run out.

2. The next step is how to launch the engine, turn the throttle to minimum before launching, the oil needle is tighten clockwise, and then turn counter-clockwise for 1-3 cycles. Cover the port of the carburettor at first, turn the paddle in counter-clockwise, you can't stop it until the fuel oil has been in the carburettor , drop 5 drops into the carburettor, and keep it idling three times ( turn three times in counter-clockwise), put the igniter on, the propeller to rotate counter-clockwise quickly, try 3-5 times, if it's not work, then turn up the oil needle about 0.1 cycles in counter-clockwise ,(every time is 0.1 cycles),then drop fuel oil into the carburettor, idling about three times, then Strike it, turn up it repeatedly, until the engine is been launched (Caution: Please do not put the igniter on before the engine has been launched , the power's consumption is amazing), you can pull out the igniter after the engine is running stable (for about 10 seconds).

3. when the engine is been launching, please don't throttle up at the first 30 seconds , you can do it 30 seconds later, rub 3 minutes regularly .and then rub 3 minutes irregularly, high speed for a long time is not allowed, the running could stop after finished a box.

4. In order to clear the old residual fuel inside the engine. It needs to be running-in again after the fuel oil has been changed.

Caution: Please check up follows if the launch isn't normal,

1, Keep the ignition with power, and put it in the right place.
2. Move the paddle powerfully.
3. Do not keep the engine in oil-poor or oil-rich stat.
How to recognize the engine is in oil-poor or oil-rich state when it's launching.

Lean oil: It's very light and without explosion when moving the paddle, this is the represent –ation of lean oil .you need drop a few drops of fuel oil into the carburettor.

Rich oil: It's very hard to move the paddle, or even can't move. In this case you just need to pour-out the oil from the carburetor.

For freshman, launch the engine is a challenging work ,you need to constantly try and study.

How to figure out the lean-rich oil of the engine in normal operation condition.

Lean oil: If the engine is on fire, in the case without refuelling, pulling the ignition of the engine, it will keep running. but flameout when it's been refuelled ,and this phenomenon called lean oil .which needs turn up the main oil needle.

Rich oil: If the engine has been started, it will shut down if you pull the ignition, which needs turn down the main oil needle.

Tips: Rich oil mill as much as possible, which will be good to the engine.

The manual was from China so expect likewise from it!! :)
