Title: 15 CC Gas Engine
Post by: bmanoj2 on June 10, 2010, 05:57:45 PM
Dear All,
I got a new RCGF 15 cc engine, and am in search of a suitable Plane for the same. Basically I want to fly this in Kerala. I would like to have something next to a trainer. I also would like to know if any of you have experience in doing this, if so the fuel tank also to be changed?.  I would really appreciate if any of you can point out all the details I should consider when converting a nitro model to gas...
:headscratch: ??? :headscratch:

From where did you get it, and what is its price in Indian currency ?

Wicked minds think alike... we just got one too, to be taken to Kerala ! ;)

Our plan is to buy an airframe locally in India, something in the 60 size (may come down to 46 possibly). Typically the fuel lines are changed, and the tank rubber stopper.

hahahahahhahahahaha anwar Giiiii   I am nor sure if 46 size is ok for the mounting size :headscratch:. And the weight of the engine is approx 900 gms? :headscratch: Do you think a 60 size stick will be ok ? and where do you think i can find small tank for gas ?

Paylessflymore has DuBro tanks which are suitable for gas and glow. A 60 size stick would be the smallest I would consider with this engine.

We order directly from RCGF.

When we were researching this engine earlier, we saw reports by multiple users who used these engines on 46 size (Katanas mostly).

In any case, 60 size is a sure shot, 46 may required some weight tweaking (my guess is that we will have to add tail weight).

Let us go fly with Santhosh in Irinjalakuda ;)  I should be there all of August pretty much, unless something urgent pops up which forces me travel out again.

No need for PM business when discussing sources ;)

I would check RCDhamaka first, as I have previous experience with them, and they tend to carry many glow/gas models, and are generally very helpful.  Not sure if they have any Stick models though.

The excess power is fine for Katana/3D flying but could/would be a handful for someone who - by his own admission -  is looking at just beyond a trainer level airplane.

Going by his earlier posts/videos, Manoj bhai doesn't seem to be at the trainer level... although for this particular model, he wanted something that is mild ;)

The .46 Yak 54 I got from RCDhamaka flies like a trainer on low throws (yes, there is no self stabilization), the landing required a small bit of additional speed compared to a high-winger.  And as the winds pick up, landing also becomes a *slow* affair :)

Katana is a fine plane I used to have one in my collection. My Problem is that I wont get nitro fuel in Kerala, I dont have huge opn ground to fly. Keeping all this in mind I need to take a plane which is suitable for 15 cc gas and is capable of 3d. I have in mind Extra 60 size but i need to find out if the 15 cc engine can be mounted in theses models. Please share your ideas if you have any experiance in this.

Ah, like I suspected, the Katana (or other 3D) types will suit you ;)  So you can go for any of the 60 size 3D models available at RCDhamaka (or other stores, if you can't find what you want), or consider even 46 size models.

hahahahahaha  ;D Thank you Anwar Gi. I already send a mail to RC Dhamaka regarding this. I am waiting for a list of 60 size models so that I can check the mounting details and weight. Any suggestion on the maximum model weight for this engine?? ???

Anwar Gi,
What do you think of this model ?
Worldmodels
http://www.theworldmodels.com/para/products/airplanedetails.php?airplaneid=98
This model has got plenty of space to work from the top as the canopy part is large.
Main Wing is 2 pice and excatly what I was looking for.
Please let me know how to get a gas cap for the fuel tank as its not available here. Or any short cuts to make one ?

The model looks cool and should work with that engine !  But are you planning to get it in India, or carry it with you ?

I am pretty sure Dubro fuel tanks are available at places like HobbyCenter, have you checked with them ?  I heard that they are doing brisk business at their new outlet in the Dubai Mall.

Well they have shifted the First shop in Airport road to a nearby building and are still not back to normal. Dubai mall shop I never tried. But the new and advanced shop of Ultimate heli at Garhood (again near airport) is doing Great. I believe you have already visited this one. If not have a look at the website and the shop photos.. http://www.ultimate-heli.com/website_heli/heli_index.html
I picked up the model yesterday from Hobby world (Yassar) at karama. I got a sale offer for the model AED 650. Now I have to find the gas cap and do the basic assembly, pack it back in the same box and take along with me. Final Fixing will be done back home. :)

Damn!! Looks neat, almost the size of a nitro big block. What did it cost you?

Smaller cousin of this : http://www.rcindia.org/fuel-and-engines/the-3w-75i-gasoline-engine/msg19245/#msg19245  ;)

It is good that you are doing the break-in etc in Dubai, and then taking just the engine to Kerala. Guess taking the engine to Bangalore, and getting it fixed there itself on an airframe would be a good idea, instead of trying to do it back in Kerala and then realizing that you are missing some small item needed to complete the build.

Got my engine too.  I am going to try it on my .46 Yak 54 (which is already running an oversized OS 55 2-stroke), before taking it home.

Hahaha exactly what I was thinking today Anwar Gi ... With your suggestion I am totally in double mind. What I was thinking was to fix the servos, hinges etc here in dubai. Only the engine, tail wing assembly etc will be done back home (Epoxy fittings). Any Way I still have 1 month to decide.

Oh.. I misunderstood you.  I thought you are still interested in getting an airframe from Bangalore itself, after reading this : http://www.rcindia.org/rc-outlets-and-resellers/bangalore-rcdhamaka-com/msg23494/#msg23494

Guys, what kind of horse power does this thing belts out. I am in search of an engine for my dragster project (either a 8+cc nitro or this). Also, is the engine torquey in nature? Power distribution across the band?

Cheers!

Hi every one. I finished building my Extra..... I used my 15cc gas engine and now I am facing a problem. The supplied fuel tank insert is suitable for nitro, I canot use it for Gas. The gas conversion was available in the local hobby shops earlier. But I tried every place and its out of stock. It seems that I have to fabricate one ?? Anyone can help me ?? I will post some pictures soon.
