wanted to make a real cheap aeroplane. Embarked on pure ply aeroplane which could take some payload like flower, tow a banner and drop some toffees for children. so here it is. Highlights are:-
1. Clark Y semi symetrical wing and tailplane
2. 2,3,6mm ply
3. Towerpro high torque cheap servos 5 of them (One for the Bombay door)
4. Power HD servo on the throttle
5. JBA 50 CC engine, superb engine 1 flick start, no choke, run in with servo 2T 30ml to a litre
6. Some tips to make are (a) Just cut one template RIB and stack it to cut the other, join the fuse former bulkheads and jury struts later clad it with ply and cut and grind the ply
7. There is no fancy oracover or anything like that, it is aluminum foil (the thick one from Mr Ganguly (Ahmedabad).
8. Weighs about 9 Kgs without payload
Few more points
1.Couldn't find a suitable tail wheel, so used suitcase wheel.
2.wheel track was more so on taxy wheel rubber came off the hub due shear force,
3. Used the PowerBox (RCCSKJ) similar to the one HK sells
4. Fromeco 7.4 V 2300 mah Dual batt and separate batt for ign, kill switch through powerbox
Flight report
on the third spar, slightly nose heavy, very docile flier 50cc engine is slighlty under powered (Probably enough, i am used high powered aeroplanes, thats why the feeling probably).
More flights, pics, trials on this aeroplane to follow ;)
Cool Gusty I missed your maiden flight. Wonderful {:)} {:)}
Fantastic aircraft. Congrats Boss! You know the circumstances under which I am writing this. I wish I could devote more time to the forum today.
VC why do you write in coded language when you are writing in a public forum... you can use PM for the same....
You leave us all wondering " what circumstances " you might into ????? ;-)
Instead of asking me questions, why don't you comment on the beautiful model instead?
Boss the creator and the model need no appreciation !!!! Both are master pieces....
Will surely meet Gusty boss and spend few hours with him some day.
It was your statement which drew more attention!!!....
Anyway dont intend to bother you much and leave you in your circumstances....!!!!! :-)
Just Chill....
wow . . . nice plane . . . Did you used balsa?
Thanks guys ! far from a piece (Let alone master piece), yeah! flies for the purpose it was intended, made for the upcoming meet (Details soon).
PS
Saurabh ! looking forward to meet you. VC's mother isn't keeping well, that's is the reason he couldn't give his expert opinion
PPS
Satish ! no balsa, scrap wood, airframe alone would have costed not more than 1200 :Rs:
nice . . . how did you made the structure frame?
Dremel ?
what is the span and length of 50CY?
A few changes on my 2.7 mtr span bird
1. Changed the undercarriage to a alu one with less track
2. Changed the prop to 20x8 from 22x8, now i got 7200 RPM as opposed to 6000 with 22x8
had a engine cut due fuel contamination :banghead: (small rubber piece blocking the inlet line, how the hell did it end up there ???)
Engine off Glide and Landing was a breeze
Here is a small video of 1:49

Like! Great job Gusty.
Thanks Sanjay, VC, Sandy, Saurabh & Sathish. Sandy knows this is definitely not my kind of flying, Banner towing flower dropping and such BS :banghead:, well, what to do, orders are orders, had to make one for the upcoming meet
PS
Sanjay, no balsa, no coro either ;)
That's the only thing missing! Besides a cowling, made from an empty 2 litre Pepsi Bottle :)
For the forthcoming RC Meet, some practice today, Dropped the ball and some flower (That Classic pic was taken by wife).
Pawan Hans Take off, we had to hold onto the model
PS
Room in 50CY-1 is my model room ;D :)
Flew beyond the timer, landed with the cut, engine cut landing was the best.
can`t wait to see the big bird with banner & flower dropping
banner went well, here are some pics,
Didn't know when the wheel collet came off, in one of the touch and go, wheel fell off :banghead: landed on one wheel, high speed low alpha and quite smooth it was
banner gone !!!
can`t wait to see the banner tow, got to see how its done exactly
amazing sire! When you say ply, I believe you mean regular ply. What thickness did you use for the fuselage. And for the wings, is it covered with vinyl, or the skin is ply again...
Amazing build
What did you use to cut the ribs etc? And what thickness of ply was see where?
What was your cost to build it?
2-3-6mm ply, worn out tyre and tyre tube for fire wall shock absorbing job and probir ganguly's alu foil cover, alu leg, costliest part was the tail wheel, and dubro tank and tygon fuel lines. total cost is hard to say, without the engine and servos 2500 Rs, servos are bulk buy from aliexpress, so that is about 6 $ a servo 4 high torque and 01 throttle servo (HXT) servos. with engine, say about 30gs
And how did you cut the plywood?? Pls. Let us in on your secret
power saw inverted through a working table, cut one, stack the rest and cut, one even cut for all ribs, sand it lightly after the cut. aslam bhai- my scratch building guru's secret not mine
Sir,
By the definition of scratch build prevailing in on here you have not scratch built this model
true manish, i have read your definition in indiarc in one of the post, by true definition, we aren't true to it, totally agree, but then, puritans are few and be that as it may
"By the definition of scratch build prevailing in on here " (Mods sorry for the cut paste.............)
What am I missing out on here? Manish am I not being able to read between the lines or am I being obtuse or am I both? ???
Beautiful build Gusty bhaiya! :hatsoff:
BTW What is the wing loading and aspect ratio of this model?
VC
I think what he meant was, what people call Scratch Built, here in the forum, is actually Plan Built, in the pure sense of the word and definition. for more on this read Manish's definition thread on IndiaRc
Rohit
Thanks, will get back to you with the answer
