last Sunday me and my son PARAM embarked upon this build from kit for PARAM to compete in the Sweep Stakes. This Kit I had bought from Hobby King.
Very Nicely made kit all parts are well fitting and nicely cut to plan. This kit is basically meant for an electric motor. however decided to reinforce the firewall and mount a 1/2 Glow Cox Engine modified with throttle. It is basically a three channel model with no Aileron so we are going to stick to it.
So for the formalities

Some more build progress. No Plan is required as the parts are numbered and slotted with correct dimension and the parts are just joining up like a Jig Saw Puzzle.

Today was Elections in Shillong and we ran out of Glue and no Shops Open, If till Monday its really our bad luck and we are going to waste the Sunday :banghead:.
Better Still thinking of Raiding Gusty's Garage for the Glue ;)
Some more progress So far So good

In reply to Post # 15 : >:D
Young fella Sandy, you are too little to even comprehend the jokes that this old Uncle posts - so stay out of it. >:D Concentrate on the model!
That is (with the Admin permission) a very SEXY wing! {:)}
It reminds me of Mackintosh Quality Street Chocolates, that I gorged on as a child.
Full Marks Col. The Youngling is learning fast. Congratulations!
Yes VC uncle my apologies, I was thinking you were 55, I never knew by now you are 65 ;D ;) :D HaHaHa
Thank you VC :hatsoff:
Getting there, getting there, yet 18 till I die!
Seriously Sandy, that is a very good looking wing. Teach me. I have a BIG Tow Line Glider (64" span) returning my way from Anta. I want it to look like this.
Please note that it will be an Under Cambered wing.
you look 18 too!!! No wonder many like me do not Consider your age at all ;D
surely VC. I have your inchworm Glider too which I have to assemble in coming days.
Some more build progress.
The Engine Mount with reinforced firewall and side walls. I vaguely see a similarity with a cox bench test mount ;D

So Whats left now are
1. Hinging of the control surfaces and linking.
2. Covering the sides.
3. Fixing the rubber band spar and rubber band.
4. Decals and numbering.
5. Fixing of battery based on the CG.
The engine has been run in and has been replaced with a Mylar reed valve. Lets see, on the bench it looks Nice so far. RPM of 12820 with a 6x4 prop.
Should touch a 13000 to 14000 in air. Thats about 250 to 300 gms of static thrust.
Yet to do the final weighing in lets see how it turns out.
I wanted it to be a slow flier and a floater for Param. If it is not able to carry well will be changing to electric. :P
Looks a real winner sir

thank you sir :)
Probably be underpowered - that is a draggy airframe.
I was doubting the Same. However I was aiming for a slow floater for calm wind less days' so going ahead with it for now.

Looks ready to tke off from Param's hand :hatsoff:
Nice looking bird and beautifull Build sir. :o
{:)} {:)}
I wonder why you left a small portion uncovered? just under the nose part? ;)
Thankyou Sanjay Sir, Arun
I left it uncovered under the nose basically because of two reasons.
one is that the sealing iron was not reaching inside being narrow.
second it was easy for the routing of fuel line. fuel tank is right above it with air vent pipe coming down from those holes any over flow while filling is going to make it soggy there. ;D
Over all AUW with fuel and BEC 2S lipo is 540 Gms.
with an expected thrust of 250 to 300 gms it is around 0.5 power to weight ratio. Should definitely fly as long as it can glide well.
If this Balsa Glider at 28.5 Oz (800 gms ) can fly with a cox 0.49 and a 6x3 prop I am hopping mine will definitely paint sky red. ;D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxdvimNVhtI
Again this AXN at 780 gms
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3wBKM3PAJ0
The first test flight not good as extremely tail heavy at CG 35% and windy it was always pitching up at the slightest of gust and it was extremely windy.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UsNECS1gE4
So now the Lipo has been moved to right next to engine forward. and CG moved forward to 20% now.
watch for next flight test.

Quick flight video of Idol Laser for Sweepstakes
Lovely sound. But it sounds over propped
6x4 was surely on the higher side. 5x4 would have been perfect .. since the ground was small it was flying on controlled throttle.
Great flight Sandy boss
Took a long taxi for take-off!
Thankyou Sir
The ground has lot of grass and since wheels are small it was not attaining speed easily. In tarmac it has a shorter run.
A perfect model for Param. Has great inherent stability, literally uncrashable. Unless he deliberately noses it down it is not going to crash at all and on throttle cut just glides beautifully.
This Sunday Fun Flying with it.
The grownup boys having fun with while Param for whom it was made is in the background all huffed and puffed.

Wow! How did I miss this thread? No wonder that I was not able to comprehend while you were talking about the 'Idol'. Lucky to have seen the actual model. Well done Sir!
Thankyou VC

:o
I was so glad it did not have the power for the loop and barrel. >:D
The Stick which has the awesome power for loop and barrel is always being sneaked quietly to the private airfield down here away from Gusty. :giggle:
Nonglyer hut ??? Nonflyer? Protection from buzzing?
"sneaked quietly to the private airfield down here away from Gusty"
Just imagine this scenario  Sandy hiding/guarding his model planes behind him and warning Gusty (with an accusatory warning wagging finger gesture) - "No, you can't fly my planes - you will break them. I won't play with you" :violent:
I know how true this is, so I wouldn't like to add any fuel to the fire.
Just yesterday, I was accusing Gusty of ''Flying by the seat of his pants"................................this proves it. A fighter pilot, is a fighter pilot, is a fighter pilot and will always remain one.
Sandy bhai, I empathise with you. Totally! ;D
Gusty, with your propensity for aerobatics, you could make a Short Sunderland do knife edges and barrel rolls. :hatsoff:
@ KK Iyer Nonglyer is the local name of the place.
you can very well imagine it VC.
The situation has very much come to that. :giggle: :giggle:
Gusty has some capacity for his style of flying which is way beyond my comfort zone. It is not that it is my models, someone like me will come to the same conclussion by just watching the plight of Gusty's models in his hands. >:D
"someone like me will come to the same conclusion by just watching the plight of Gusty's models in his hands."
Sandy, why do you think I always travel to Shillong empty handed? :giggle: PLEASE don't let him know about the 450 Heli. :giggle:

that's news to me , is that so ?
Oh hell! Sandy, you've had it.
Sandy, quickly! Give me the models for safekeeping before Gusty...... ;D ;D

Gusty has had the hint of it for a long time now but he is refusing to accept it and since he is unable to reconcile with the fact that someone close to him can ditch him so badly.
I love my models Gusty ;) ;D ;D and have a severe compulsion to see them fly in
my hands at least for 10 flights for a scratch build and More than 50 Flights for more advanced ones.
I even mostly decline to fly gusty's Models for the fear that the poor chap might breath his last in my hands and taint my hands after suffering the torture with gusty. :giggle: :giggle:
One more Sandy !! One more month !!, (35 days to be precise) then you and your models will miss it.
PS
So will I !!
PPS
I dont remember breaking any of you aeroplanes to smithereens (all of them flew albeit after repairing the fatigue cracks ;D ), like you did to my FA - 18 on its second flight :o
I know Gusty Just one more month!!!!!! After that we are going to really miss all the fun.
What happens after 15th June? Rains?
same thing happened to your status which changed from Mumbai to Gurgaon, mine should read Hyde..;)
OK! Shame, Shillong seems so beautiful in the pics. Anyway, that's a Serviceman's life I guess. Don't forget to take pics of how you shift your aeromodelling stuff :D
Most of his aeromodelling stuff will have a relatively short journey. My residence is only 100kms from Shillong.
most if not all the foamies are coming to you, like you promised, will be well preserved for my occasional journey later to Gau !!!

:o :o :o Not fair Gusty. That was just one unpainted FA-18, How many more for that one FA-18 :giggle: :giggle:. On the contrary I have stopped keeping count with you mostly smithereens by my standards.
You have stopped noticing them because I repair them/
replace them with fresh build so fast and my Hangar is mostly full and ready. >:D
